Hi teachers! Are you thinking about teaching on independently or on a platform like iTalki or Preply? Download our Starter Kit for Online Language Teachers: Free Essentials Pack www.welearnahead.com/start-teaching-online-toolkit-free

I also teach 90-minutes group classes for a very small platform. It offers multiple preset group classes weekly at the same time and the students can decide which group class to attend. Sometimes I’ll have 8-9 students, sometimes I’ll have 2-3 students. I am paid a flat fee, no matter the number of students. The hardest part is some students want to take over the conversation, but as a teacher I make sure everyone has the same time of talking.

Thanks for sharing! Yeah, that could definitely be tricky to deal with, especially if some students are introverts and the others extroverts. Sounds like great experience, Tansy!

Hi Ryan! One small correction about group classes on AmazingTalker - group classes on AmazingTalker can have up to six students per class. I've been hosting special topic group classes for my community of learners and they've been a big hit. Each course has been between one and five lessons long on topics ranging from Greek mythology, cryptozoology, and the animals that inspired different Pokemon. I also have an on-going group class that I host for a couple of students who are cousins and around the same instructional level. With those two I'm going through material that I would normally go through for students at the same age and proficiency level with a few adjustments to delivery and in-class activities.

Cheers for the update! Much appreciated.
I was going off of the information in this article which was updated a week ago: intercom.help/amazingtalker/en/articles/2578558-can-i-teach-many-students-at-a-time
Anyways, thanks again for sharing. This should be useful for many people interested in teaching on AT.

Student here: I love 1:1 classes! I have no interest in a group class. That would be stressful for me.

I also believe that Italki will start that too😢I hope they can keep the option of 101 classes, because some students don’t feel comfortable studying the language as a group and also they have different needs. I taught students who needed to learn Portuguese for travel purposes, others to study in Brazil, others just wanted to practice conversation and so on. It will be difficult when it comes to group teaching: the lessons might be less personal.

My thoughts exactly! I much prefer 1-on-1 while teaching and learning on iTalki. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Hey Ryan! Thanks for the video, I'm a bit late to this one but I found it interesting. Group classes are why joined Allschool! I also have a question about one of italki's policies. Any help is always greatly appreciated. So, I've been on the platform for a little over a year and I'm just starting to get my footing and get used to it and then I got an email from italki stating that my rescheduling was higher than other teachers and they suspended me for 7 days. I've had to personally reschedule for family emergencies maybe 3 times in the year. Other than that it's the students. I reached out to italki for clarity, and I got two different answers and nobody really gave a solution. The representative just said compared to other teachers, it doesn't look good. I'm like...ok. Who cares, whatever I can do to be flexible and help my students is my main goal. Any suggestions? This seems so unreasonable and silly.

I want to teach group classes but if you ask them about the requirements they do not answer. Also, the financial situation in some countries will mean some teachers will lose students which is not ideal. I am still wondering if they are beneficial for the teachers. Especially in the case of Preply would the first group class still be free? Since you would lose a lot of money.
