Lancer was awesome in the three Fate routes, but Carnival Phantasm is what solidified him as a fuckin' meme and legend for Fate/Stay Night fans everywhere.
How is Lancer awesome? I’m only a little bit into UBW, and haven’t seen him since his fight at the beginning, but he sucked in the Fate route. He disappeared for the vast majority of the story, only to come back and be immediately killed by a random new villain. I was so excited for him to have a comeback, especially seeing as both he and I are Irish but he just didn’t do anything.
He is actually like that in his real life legend. Guy tied himself into a rock so he would die standing up. Even as a mostly dead guy his rival who dared to approach him got his arm cut off for his trouble. Only when a bird perched onto his body that everyone knew he was really dead.
Since no one said it yet, I'll do the honors. "Oh my god, they killed Kenny!" "You bastards!" That's what I remember when Lancer dies. It's too much XD

Personally, my favorite is his death in the Brainwash Detective Hisui section. They brought this man in a Tsukihime skit for 3 seconds for the sole purpose of killing him
To him his life is like a big real-time Dark Souls game. In fact ancient Ireland mythology does have that kind of Souls-series features. Not to mention the berserker version Cu looks just like some Souls characters.
