For those who disagree with eating meat or not, before judging just observe it, observe your sense of self observe how it manifest in your mind and your actions.

Hi, Thankyou for this recording. When listening to the meditation it takes me to a place of deep relaxation, so much so that i'm not conscious of what is being said, this relaxation helps me with anxiety and stress but how can I be sure I am realising the true nature of my mind?

He ate meat only when he thought it would be an insult to the people who were serving the meat if he did not partake of it. That shows how considerate he was of others and that everything is not black and white.

Only disagree about vegetarianism. Buddha never taught about it. Eat vegetables also have death behind it , the death of the vegetable itself and also the death of animals and insects from agriculture. Alimentation is always a ritual process. There is no escape. It is part of Samsara.

fintevogel so we are better than carnivorous animals then. By your statement. They are savages. And do t know any better. And if we could we should teach them. If possible. Funny though. Animals in nAture are
To be doing fine. No wars. No anxiety. No animal gangs. No animal killings of other animals over arguments. But we should teach them of our ways.
What makes us better than them?
We have deeper sense of self awareness. And we have an intellect that most can’t Handle. I’d say at best. With these human abilities. They are at the stage of infancy. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Buddha taught compassion for all living things. Vegetarianism has been a part of Buddhist culture for centuries, specially among the Mahayana schools. Also the edicts of Asoka (the first known buddhist writings) strictly prohibit animal sacrifice and meat consumption. Maybe you come from an Abrahamic religious background and that's why is so difficult for you to understand it.

@daophos I think is more than evident that the one who is a little confused is you. First the mahāyāna and most budist traditions has always recognize the consumption of meat as a form of cruelty. Also, as I had mention before, the edicts of Asoka (the first known buddist writings) strictly prohibit animal sacrifice and meat consumption. Finally, in all the transmitions I have received from lamas from a variety of traditions (specially Dzogchen and kagyu) they always confess that meat eating brings a negative karma. Actually, I remember that the Lama from whom I received the Sherab Shamma transmition (I will not mention his name for obvious reasons) said that only in the case of certain lamas that are very advance the karma that brings meat consumption can be transgressed.
In esence the problem is that the animal feels fear when is sacrificied and producing fear is contrary to budic nature.
The reason this idea bothers most people like you is because it requires a real effort on their part and because it contradicts their original judeocristian beliefs. Hope this helps.

This was great all the way until his meat eating aversion. Life must consume life to sustain life. There is no more or less karma in consuming meat as there is in eating plants. They live and suffer as much as any other being does. Do not try to convince yourself that eating one type of life form is more morally correct then eating another type of life form. Plants are alive and when you eat them they die. No attachment no aversion means to not avoid something nor be attached to it. As it says beautifully in the lion king there is a circle of life; "Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. As king you must understand that balance and respect all creatures. From the crawling ant to the leaping antelope." "But dad dont we eat the antelope?" "Yes simba but let me explain. When we die our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. And so; we are all connected in the great circle of life."

Well, if you are getting your insights from Disney no wonder your thoughts are so dumb and confuse. Plants have less sensible centers than fully develop animals, is just common sense to understand that the more develop is the brain and nerve system the more physical suffering will exist in that specific been.
