My grandpa passed February 17th, 2022 due to kidney failure. My dad and all his brothers sang this song at his funeral. When I tell you I had never felt so calm and pure when there angelic voices sang this song. I thank the Lord for all he's done for us. God Bless you all.

Awesome. Love David's beautiful voice. I can listen to him all day. Praise God.
Several years ago I received free tickets to an outdoor concert. The lady singing was very good. My wife and I walked up during intermission to say thanks and buy one of her CD's. I told her, "God has sure blessed you with a beautiful voice." She swallowed purposely hard and said, "I have to rehearse all the time to be able to sing this well." My wife took my hand and said, "Let's go, we're not buying any of her CD's" and we left. I felt genuinely bad for this woman who seemed unaware of the source of all gifts of life.
That said, David Phelps performance here is so God given there can be no doubt it is a special gift he is to use for the glory of God. Thank you David for this performance.
David Phelps will be personally responsible for using his God-given talent in helping many of us get through this pandemic without losing faith, hope or our minds. Thank You Jesus for gifting this man with a voice that helps so many.

2024 Easter Sunday. Thank God! He's alive!!!
Six weeks ago at about 8PM I blew out my aorta. Instead of taking me to the closest hospital, the ambulance took me about 5 minutes farther to a Level 1 trauma hospital that had a heart surgery team on call for the night. Even then, I was later told, I barely made it. What followed was an 11 hour surgery, 4.5 hours on a heart-lung machine, and my heart was stopped for 20 minutes. The lead heart surgeon (I had 3 cardiologists doing the surgery) told me I had the worst blow-out he had ever seen and that I had a 10% chance of making it. Spent 5 days in ICU. In my drug induced coma, this was one of the songs that God brought to my remembrance and I "sang" it over and over again, despite having a breathing tube down my throat. The other was Lamentations 3:22-23. That is the only thing I remember from those days.
I'm alive because HE's alive and heaven's gates are open wide with all of God's blessings and His mercies are new every morning.
You have more to do here or you would be with Him now. Make good use of the time you've been given (as we all should) to do His will. Praise God, you are also with us.
Correction: after reviewing the $769,000 hospital statement, I was in ICU for 11 days followed by 5 days in the general recovery. And my now four cardiologists all tell me that there is no way I should be alive, especially as it took 1:35 hours to get to the emergency room. Fortunately Jesus didn't listen to them.

4 or 5 years ago I had the opportunity to sing this version in an Easter drama our church did. I had battled bronchitis the entire Easter week. This was in Sunday evening. I’m no David Phelps but when I got to the chorus the spirit hit me and enveloped the entire church.

Let me say... As someone involved in musical theatre, (yes, that's how it's spelled) David has a very good sense of drama. He knows when to back-phrase (like at the beginning, you think you know when he will begin but he pulls it out from under you by waiting a beat), when to speak instead of sing ("Because I'd seen them crucify him" for one), where to pull back emotionally, when to be a bit melodramatic ("And I fell down on my knees" for example), not to mention the actual singing and the voice is incredible. Also, if you watch his movements, it seems that David has some idea of staging and blocking, because it seems that he has indeed blocked this. And that's not bad either, in fact, I think the blocking helps to drive the story home even more. And this is a story, don't be mistaken. David just knows how to tell a good story using music. He is just amazing.

I was in a musical in Texas with David as the lead a couple years ago. He has some distant theatre experience and moves very well onstage.
One could say annointed. Yes, he's been on stage a lot, he's had many camera angles. Of course he knows blocking, but evoking emotion and worship... that's annointed.

I`ve lost count of the number of times I`ve watched this video. It`s uplifting, inspiring, and it truly reminds me that as a Christian that Christ IS ALIVE and that I`m forgiven. Also, I, like millions of others, love David Phelps. I think he is the reason that the Gaither music has changed to a more contemporary sound, and for those of us who didn`t grow up with country music, David has a more classical sound. Even as a teenager growing up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, I loved the symphony and classical music. But I also grew up with R&B and Motown out of Detroit and classic rock.
