I have a 97 registered X300 LWB 4.0 sovereign here in France and its a fantastic car looking good today in 2024 the straight 6engine is just beautiful ❤
Thank you for watching! Both are very nice, although I'm more keen on the X308, the combo of British luxury and American-like brute force gives this car a very distinctive charisma, and in my opinion, _Zee German_ cars feel very different compared to Jags, nothing beats the charm of one for sure! 😁
My dream car! Came across one parked on the street a couple of days ago, in my country it's not common at all and i mean at all, so i really didn't believe my eyes lmao.
Good vidoe! Small correction: At 4:22, we see an interior picture of the XJ40 and one of the later X308. The X300 interior was extremely similar to the one of the XJ40. The rounded one came with the X308.
XJ40 was the first Jaguar drawn with a computer - Sir Bill Lyons approved. Rover SD1 was the first British car done so - in 1976. Daimler is pronounced 'Dame-ler' in English - 'Dime-ler' in Germanic languages. Vanden Plas is pronounced 'Varn-den Plars' - it's Belgian. Great video - some great footage cobbled together. Thumbs up!
I have to agree with some who say the 308 is peak XJ. I've owned so many XJ's over the last 30 years (inc. an XJ220 for 10 years) . Currently running a X358. fantastic car but not as calming as a 4.0 X308
Even an XJ220, one of 275!? Wow! Anyway, I do agree that the X308 is THE Jaguar XJ, a steel body + a V8 engine = a recipe for lot of car, and considering how much these cost nowadays, it's a lot of car for not a lot of money, sure though, servicing them is a whole another topic...
The "Mark eX" as you called it wrongly is actually the Mark X (Ten) in roman numerals. It later became the 420G, the "G" stood for "Grand". The "Dime-ler" brand as you called it is pronounced Dame-ler, Daim-ler. Also, or your information, Jaguar produced cars with a "V8" engine between 1962-1967. It was basically a Jaguar Mk 2 with a Daimler 2.5L V8 installed in it. It was referred to as the 2.5 V8 and later became the V8-250.
The V12 was not available from the German competition on the launch of the XJ40 in 1985. All ready a V12 engine was seen as an anachronism. Heavy, complex and not really fuel efficient. Jaguar was very realistic and smart actually. It was only when in 1988 BMW revealed the 750, and it didn’t only surprise Jaguar, who thought this engine was out of fashion, Mercedes had the exact same idea as Jaguar. BMW had to do it to show off to Jaguar and especially Mercedes. The W126 was in production at least two if not three extra years for Mercedes to develop the V12 for the W140 600 that came in 1991. That was when Jaguar really understood that they needed to get the V12 into the XJ40.
Surely, the Jag was introduced in '86, a few months after the E32, which did in fact come out with both I6 and V12 engines available, thus, forcing Mercedes to go on with the W126 untill 1991, since now they also had to develop their own V12! As for the Jag, I've heard some theories that Leyland wanted to put a Rover V8 in the XJ-40, I've also heard that this idea was later sabotaged by Jaguar engineers by making so this engine would simply not fit, seems like a faux to me, given that later they shoved a whole V12 in there...
Enjoyed, but the XJ6 was not "revolutionary" in 1968. It was an evolution of a formula already established by the Mk 10 and S-type / 420. For me the "peak" is the X300 XJR, the last XJ available with or easily converted to a manual gearbox. The S-type Diesel's ZF S6-53 bolts up to the AJ-V8, but the flex plate conversion to flywheel is not for the backyard... or at least not mine!
When new 370 hp Not 365 The 4.0 L V8 supercharged with the Eaton M112 370 hp 387 ft-Ibs of torque 0-60 mph in about 5.2 seconds This video is good but it has the figures wrong!
The AJ-V8 was plagued with reliability and cooling system issues, especially in the Lincoln LS versions. The older inline 6's were much more reliable and durable..
This could have been a better tribute to a great tradition without the terrible AI voiceover. Get a good British accent on board and this film will shine!
AI voiceover? 😁 I'll admit, English is not my first language, nor is it my national, so some different accents can slip here and there, but AI? It's a pretty bold claim, kinda frightening now that some think my voice isn't even me, but rather some AI 😬

Thing must be a beaute, keep it, this car is gonna age like fine wine 🤩
How about a 1998 black on black XJR ?
Will it be worth millions ?

Never. When the electonic Gremlins start to sabotage your Carriage, good night!
Thank you for review! My favorite x300

A minute or so of pictures of Notting Hill Gate, London, are of perplexing relevance to the Brown’s Lane factory.
I think it’s meant to be 1990s atmosphere.
Man I wish the best for this channel I hope you continue to grow , I love all your videos great format and narration
Love to hear that, thank you very much!
Good Job in putting it together, it's not easy.

Oh yeah, you're correct! Didn't even notice that somehow, but thanks for correcting me!
@@RedLine_Car_Show The XJ40 and X300 interior was virtually identical. 4:22 is definitely X308. Otherwise, great video

Believe me maintenance on a x308 is chicken feed to an XJ220. my last service from the UK specialist was £12,500. And that was in 2008!!!
Maintenance cost are nothing special today. They are easy to work on, no big issues and lots of used parts.
At 4:23, you show the interior of the X308 and not the X300, which was essentially the same interior as the XJ40 but with a few design changes.
Pretty sure someone already pointed that out, but you are correct! Thanks!
It's day-mler in UK
It's MIS-pronounced DAYM-ler in the UK. Names do not change when they cross borders!
THEY GOT THIS WRONG, AT 4:22, THAT IS NOT AN X300, THAT IS AN X308, 1998-2003

4:22 - x308 interior, not x300.
Yep, someone already corrected me on that in the comments, makes total sense, given that they just slapped the new body on an old chassis
I'm driving a 1978 right now

The XJS successor was not cancelled, it was turned into the Aston Martin DB7, a brand also owned by Ford at the time.
The AJ-V8 was plagued with reliability and cooling system issues, especially in the Lincoln LS versions. The older inline 6's were much more reliable and durable..
