The best way for them to win the WS, would be if Torres and Wells, hitting in front and behind Soto and Judge, get hot, making actually pitching to Soto and Judge more possible.
The team's tendency to roll up and die when they go down early is a very weak spot, and the hitting is very inconsistent. When they go down early they also press and make stupid mistakes (pop ups, DP's and errors). They are mentally weak and will either dominate or go out quietly in the first round. Game one of the ALDS will set the tone.
I really hope this Yankees team can win this year WS! , but I have to admit not loving all the time off! Yankees offense can be shut down with good pitching and being off for 6 days can really cool off bats!
They need to hit with risp and play with some fire and a f you attitude also the bullpen really needs to step up big for us and I agree with you Derek I think Oswaldo could come up big for us in the postseason.

The 2024 Yankees can be summed up with two sets of numbers: 50-22 and 44-46. Since the beginning of June they have been just a reprise of last year's disaster. They caught a lot of teams at just the right time, like Houston, in the first two months. They had a 21-7 month of May. But since early June? This isn't even a playoff team let alone a team that can go all the way.
Would love to see J-Dom on the PS roster but defense takes precedence this time of year. As much as I hate watching Verdugo hitting it in to the ground over and over and over… he can play LF at the stadium . Considering this team is already weak defensively at 2B, has 33:43 ?? at 1B and Jazz playing out of his natural position at 3B. The OF needs to be solid.
Get back to basics.
Waldo is a solid all around player. It's not one you expect much from, and he doesn't do anything to cost us games. There's a place on the roster for that.
im 100% game for Cabrera @ 1st. I dont get why people are picking other players over him. Including DJ !!!. Put Oswaldo out there already and call it a day !

You cannot bat Stanton after Judge. If Judge gets on 1st it will be double play time.
The Yankees have what it takes to Win the World Series, however Aaron Boone doesn’t have what it takes. Yes Luke Weaver!! Do not play Clay Holmes!!!
It’s all hands on deck for the postseason. We can’t rely on Judge and Soto anymore to carry the team esp with the aces we’ll be facing. Work those counts, strike first, run the bases smart, all back to fundamentals baseball, make every out count.
Oswaldo def has that X-factor to be etched into NYY history with a those big hits. You know like Ricky Ledee ‘98 vibes.

I have been watching Yankee playoff baseball for 30 years. Derek you want them to play like a team that they aren’t. I don’t blame you. You are a fan like me. One thing I know is that the flaws that weren’t corrected always reappear in October. They can definitely still win because even with their flaws there isn’t a 98 Yankees in the majors this year.
Keys to the Yankees success it’s Torres getting on base hopefully one or two times a game. If it’s through two walks than you have done your job and let Soto and judge do the rest. Torres has been key during this stretch run. Also Cole as one of your leaders of this team to just dominate the other team in the first game of the ALDS. And third JUST play normal. Meaning don’t make mental errors. These things accomplished they will go far and even to the World Series.
I know there are other factors but to me these are the main ones.
As a long time Yankee fan I can't see the Yankees making it out of the first round with 2 starting pitchers and 2 hitters and a new closer plus they don't steal, lead the world in GIDP's and have a paper manager. Let's be real it's playoff pitching and offense and the Yankees are simply not in that league right now. Went bad at the wrong time all of them.

There are no dominant teams this year, this is a good year for the Yanks to win it all. Someone other than Judge or Soto needs to come up big. If I'm the opposing team Judge and Soto will never see a good pitch.

It sucks to admit, but I agree: leave Rice and The Martian off. Let them observe how the veterans who have been in the postseason before keep themselves composed. Get Cabrera in at first. He MUST be our first baseman until Rizzo is (hopefully) healthy for the (hopefully) tail end of the ALCS. His bat may not be great, but he can still play a solid 1B.
Yankees need to take these 5 days to seriously work there asses off on defense and find ways to fix the blunders they make
