    I got my seeds this afternoon in the mail from Sweden and I’m just taking a refresher course watching all of your videos in this series so I can get to work tomorrow. I got my first batch of seeds and I sowed them on Christmas day but I really don’t think they were viable. The person I got them from just have a lot of negativity and kind of scaring me away from being successful and it was a very reputable place online but I just don’t think it’s my fault why they didn’t germinate but just to be sure I still have them and I’m not giving up on them yet but just to be sure with this new batch I am re-educating myself. These seeds came from somewhere else and I personally know people who have had tons of success so I am very confident. And plus my first batch I think I made the mistake by choosing harder to grow succulents so we’ll see what happens. Keep your fingers crossed for me because this is the next step in my journey! If I am successful then the industrial greenhouse Goes up this summer heated and everything❤️❤️❤️🌵🌵🌵

      Liz, should I leave the grow light on constantly until I see That they have germinated? Or should I be giving them some sleep time I guess what I’m asking is for the first 10 to 14 days should I just leave them under the grow light? I know after they sprout I want to give them a few hours of dark

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I had the grow light on for 16 hours a day. They need some darkness to germinate. I had the big tub under the shelf (1.1 meters away) with cover on to maintain moisture and also not too close to the light to encourage the seeds to pop out looking for the source of light. I find the ones grown close to the light not having success for me. I kept the lid close for 5 days. On the 6th day, I kept the lid ajar to let the air circulate a bit during the day and pop it back on at night when I turned off the grow light and have it ajar again when I turned it back on the next day. Different plants will germinate differently. Good luck. I'll be keeping everything crossed for you.

      What is the best temperature for germination? I’ve had such conflicting advice 😢 Facebook groups in UK say Echeveria seeds don’t like temperatures above 20degrees centigrade whereas the people I have purchased seeds from (Sweden and UK) say 25 degrees centigrade and some up to 28 degrees centigrade is required with big night/day temperatures. Please can someone help me I’ve spent a fortune on seeds! 😅

    Is is alright if I use potting mix with compost containing organic yucca and coir instead of seed raising mix with added fertilizer? And can I use perlite instead of granite? I just can’t find granite and seed raising mix soil; I only found vermiculite.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not familiar with organic yucca and coir. Maybe, you can try mixing it up. The only problem with having too much compost in seed raising soil mix is that it might encourage mold growth.
      If I only have the substrate you have....I would mix, fine coconut coir and vermiculite as a main soil mix for germinating seeds and sprinkle a bit of coarse sand on top to keep the seeds down. I would also do a test run on a small amount of seeds to see if it works. Good luck. Hope it works.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK

      @@alinasmirnova5138 Desert sand is fine, as long as it doesn't have any salt(wash first if there is salt).

    Hey Liz I enjoy you videos very much, Love your happy spirit. I have a question I thought maybe you will know from your experience...may seeding mixture is 1 part soil (peat) 2 part vermiculate and 1 part sand. I've noticed that when I bottom water the mixture before seeding, it takes a lot of time for the soil to absorbed the water (like an hour maybe more) I feel that something might be off, it should not take so much time. Did you encounter something similar? maybe its say something about the proportions? maybe its O.K? I would really appreciate your opinion

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peat can be hydrophobic. If using peat to grow seeds, may I suggest wetting your soil mix first before putting the seeds in. If you notice in the video, my soil mix is damp.
      May I also suggest amending your soil mix. 1 part peat, 1 part sand and 1/4 part vermiculite would probably be a better mixture.
      Then you can mix the seed with the sand and sprinkle it on top of your soil mix. Good luck.
