@@funkyfranklin Time-based mechanics are all lame, like waft and arsene. No shade, obviously; there are barely any characters that are cool in this game and Joker's on the higher end, but if they were based on damage, that would be better.
This is a whole video essay waiting to happen, and I'm not going to go into it, but overall, a damage system would be better.

I agree; aside from Ken pretending he’s not a semi-clone, Lucina and Chrom are the best possible example of how to add a clone with enough differences to give someone a reason to pick one over the other.
That's true, but after doing some research on Fire Emblem (I haven't played the games myself, although they look kinda interesting), I realized there was a lot more that could've been done with Lucina and Chrom. So that's frustrating.

I hate campy Samus. Best thing about her is her various movement options like tether cancels, charge shot canceling, bomb movement, b reverse missiles, and yet nobody ever does this awesome movement because everyone spams projectiles.

The worst thing about Samus is that she mostly relies on fisticuffs when she has a sleuth of projectiles from the Metroid games she could be using. She does _not_ play like her source material.

Even sakurai announced that chrom and dark Samus were highly requested
Chrom was the expected inclusion into Smash 4. It was actually a surprise by several people that Lucina made it in and Chrom was relegated to a final smash.

I like playing Lucina over marth because the spacing is too tedious. I also don’t like it when my opponent gets all the way up to 160-170 and I still can’t kill when if I was using Lucina then ftilt or up tilt could have already killed. (I also love awakening)

Though I think people overstate how similaar they are. Marth has a very different (and better) combo game and a much better ledge trapping, in exchange for a less forgiving neutral, higher risk up close, and most of the time worse edge guarding. I played both for a bit, and playing well with Marth feels so different than playing well with Lucina.
@@Endershock1678 I personally really like the tippers. Is it hard to land? Yes. Does it give Marth a really high skill cap? Yes. Does it make getting good at Marth feel like a sort of passage for entry? Yes. And is it satisfying? Absolutely.

I am a Ike main and Ganon Secondart, and all I can say is that Ganon is not a real sword fighter, he have to rely on brain and strategy while Ike can just do Nair combos and win

I’ll be honest, as a pit main, my least favorite thing about him is his down air due to the very small sweet spot. Even when u land the sweet spot, it’s still kinda weak, so tryin to spike w/ pit’s d-air is very difficult and needs the perfect timing for the sweet spot.
Update: pit is not my main anymore but i still like him and do well with him regardless

I think Odyssey Central made a video ranking the spikes and I agree with his take:
Basically Pit has it really bad because the spike is too hard to hit and Pyra has the opposite problem because it can feel too free. Samus on the other hand feels just right where you do have to space yourself properly to land the spike, but it isn't nearly as guaranteed.
In my personal opinion, even though it would make the moves less unique, I feel like Pit and Pyra could benefit from having a spike more similar to Samus.

The hitbox should be larger, or the move should be stronger. The spike is so bad, even if you do hit it, you need 3 of them to kill characters with good reccoveries. I can hit the spike once, but no more than that.
As a pit main yeah but pit in general has a terrible hit box so all of his moves have no range but his up air is fantastic imo

Chrom is amazing. I second him. He has constant aggression. Always rushing down his opponent and his jab combos are great and it feels so great.
He feels like Roy with a more consistent combo game. He's fast, fast falling, strong, and has the best f tilt in the game.
In exchange, his recovery mixed with his fall speed makes even the smallest tap off stage fatal.
@@Endershock1678 I feel like roy is over used. His recovery is his main weakness but he has plenty to make up for it.
I also second Chrom. He’s a LOT of fun,
buuuut his recovery is screwed against characters with counters, which is why I’m always a bit nervous when going online with him.
Roy is just the cooler Chrom in my opinion, its frustrating that you sometimes get punished for only hitting the weak hitboxes but this mechanic also makes him feel more unique

I'd say the worst thing about Falcon (aside from fake hype) is his turn around animation. You try doing dash away, and it sends you closer to the enemy for no reason, so you can get grabbed on an otherwise safe move.

I'm not really a fan of them. I really only like Dark Pit, and that's only becuase I like the game he's from. But I don't really see any point in having him, Dark Samus, Daisy, etc. in the game
I feel like the echoes should get changes that make them different from their source characters rather than cut them entirely. Like making Dark Pit better in the air since he’s a stronger flyer than Pit and making Pit better on the ground since he runs more.

It doesn't matter if you play Peach or Daisy. They are literally 99% the same character in how they play.
I wish they did Echoes like Dr. Mario and Isabelle, where they are kind of echoes, but they have slightly different play styles to make them unique from the character they are based on
Daisy may be an Echo Fighter of Peach but a welcome addition nonetheless. While it's true that Daisy was programmed to fight the same as Peach, there are differences in their characters. The heart references in Peach's set is replaced with flowers, and the taunts, on-screen entrace, and win animations are different reflect Daisy's goofy and lively personality. Her hurtboxes while running and idle pose are bigger too.

Yeah, roy and chrom have a pretty nice combo game, but most chrom and roy players just go for one option and maybe hop doesn’t watch top roy/chrom players

@@MrAuthor3DS If Roy gets up close immediately the attacks will have too much knockback and the opponent will go flying before he even gets a chance to combo. First he has to land a couple of sourspots and then he can land the sweetspot killing blow. It's super cool to watch and requires a good amount of skill.

Depends on percent. At low percents, you wanna land hilts because you want the increased hitstun and slightly higher knock back to link into more moves. Once they hit like 50, it's better to land tippers because the low knock back let's it more easily combo into strong hilt combo finishers and even gives him strong kill confirms.

Side-B: Is just okay, you can charge it for the added effect of the kill but overall Kirby's Side B is like the worst special for Kirby.

So technicly Link is also a Heavy Sword fighter and depending on were you make the border, Hero (101) and Cloud (100) also barely count as heavys
Dark Pit is super different because he has a cheese move where he does back throw at ledge immediately into the final smash. It kills at 0 and the only way to mess up is you wait too long to press the button, and even then you can still pull it off. In this essay I will-

This is a very nice video but I can’t help but feel the “bad” side of it could have been more consistent... half of them are bad things for playing the character and the others are bad things for versing the character lol
As someone who actually enjoys playing Ivysaur, my favorite thing about him is probably that comboing neutral air into landing neutral B can rack up a fair bit of damage, and he has the potential for surprise Flare Blitz switches. The worst thing about him is definitely his tether recovery, since it doesn't want to work about half the time. Thankfully if it fails you can switch to Charizard and maybe make the recovery anyway.

i like the advanced level rock paper scissors that samus creates with downthrow to plasma cannon, you either read an downwards airdodge and fastfall to catch them, read them doing nothing and just pressing b, or read them jumping away and jump after them.

It made me happy to hear your opinion on Pit, because I try to make sure my opponent is having as much fun as I am. I want them to respect me, and never feel like they got cheesed. If both players aren’t having fun, then it’s not really a game worth playing, right?

Or just don't go offstage. Dr. Mario players absolutely have no business trying to edgeguard 3/4 of the roster as they can all recover better than him and many have their own tools they can use to counterattack and get *him* Ko'd instead.

PK Fire needs to stale much more quickly, and perhaps its duration needs to decrease more quickly as well the more its used in a row.

That's kinda sad for me that you hate echo fighters so much, I think they're great because it's a way to get more people's desired characters in without adding tons and tons more workload for the already swamped dev team
To me they're mostly just wasted potential. The only echo fighter I like is Ken, and...what a coincidence, he's also the most varied of all the echo fighters. They're a distraction to me; they make me think about how they could be better rather than how cool they are.
K-leb well the whole point of an echo is to get a character that wouldn’t normally be playable to have a form of representation. It was get in as an echo fighter or not get in at all.
Probably also for Squad Strike. What if someone wants to make sure they have two chances with a certain playstyle?
I feel like echo fighters would be accepted a lot more if they weren't entirely separate from their original counterparts, instead being kinda like skins where you can select a character then choose between them or their echo

I'd say Dark Pit is stronger. His bow has more hitstun, sends out instead of up, and actually kills, making it a nightmare on and off stage.
Well it depends a lot on the person, because dark pit’s side b is better than pit’s no doubt about that one but arrows are a essential part of them and regular pit arrows are more versatile

As someone who's not big into competitive smash, what's wrong with ivysaur?
Imma metaknight main and using dair on stage is optimal cuz it gives enough knockback to combo into itself then to a drill way offstage, which is hype. Also, landing the unexpected down b is sweet

People always think you need to carefully space out your moves with Marth. As somebody who's recently picked him up, I don't really find that to be all that good, since you end up missing 90% of your moves. My mentality is "sourspots are better than missing your move entirely" for two reasons; one is it becomes harder for people to punish you if you actually land a move than if you whiff entirely, and two is people are so scared of the tipper that if you get just slightly closer than the tipper, they'll often back up into it. One more thing, the tippers for up-tilt and up-air are massive and they're the main way I rack up damage.
Marth's sourspots are hot trash though. One, I swear to god the sword just passes through people half the time, and two, they feel disproportionately weak and tend to leave you vulnerable.
