The absolute most frustrating thing about trying to watch any debate with Kent is his complete and utter disrespect for the other person. He interrupts, repeats himself endlessly to fill up the time, condescends, insults, strawman‘s, and straight up tells you what you do or don’t believe. That's the problem though, he does kind of win people to his side. To an objective viewer, most people will immediately recognize his nonsense, but a lot of christians look at his debates through a lense and feel like they have to accept it, and it spreads. In a way, Kent is obviously a horrible debater, but at the same time he's also a pretty good one and very, very practiced when it comes to a lot of the christian viewers. He knows what to say to make them feel like they have to believe him and a lot of them do, unfortunately.

Both the entire animal and plants kingdom share an common ancestor in single cells with nucli that consumed chemical energy and some their later descendants diverged into single cells that absorb energy from the sun and others by getting energy by consuming other cells and/or their remains. Many people forget that almost half the genes plants and animal possess are strictly tied to the structure of their individual cells and their various functions and organelles and there's a more overlap there than most people realize. I think if I were debating Kent Hovind, I would hold his feet to the fire when he says "Nobody has ever seen a dog produce a non-dog, or a cow produce a non-cow." The questions I would ask him: Kent, do you believe when a dog gives birth do a dog, it's offspring is in some way different to the parent? Do you believe when that puppy, with differences to it's parents grows up and has puppies of it's own, they will be different? If you agree with the previous two questions, is it not fair to say that over many generations, the offspring of a "Kind" can appear different to it's ancestors? No, because that would be impossible. Their definition includes fantasy exists in actual reality and has an impact on it without the necessity of someone fantasizing about it and acting on their fantasies. And you're not a theist. So, no you won't have a shared definition of what truth is and we're not all standing for it. Some people say they stand for something and don't. You can see that they don't when they don't try and work towards what they stand for. You can see what someone stands for by looking at what they _do_ try and work towards. One of the many problems with Hovind, is his lack of understanding of what 'observe' means. It does not entail just watching something, but includes perceiving or detecting something in what you discover in the course of scientific study.

Commenting again, it genuinely agitated me that Kent doesn’t understand what the law of monophyly is or what it represents. Monophyly works backwards up the clades as such we as humans are everything our ancestors were but they are not what we are. We are Apes but not all apes are Human. We are mammals but not all mammals are apes and so forth.
It drives me crazy when he brings up literature as his analogy for common design because language evolves. It literally evolves. There is a whole field of study that traces language development. The funny thing is that Kent hasn’t read Shakespeare. He is apparently unaware that the letters and spelling and structure of original Shakespeare does not look remotely like modern English. He’s read a version of Shakespeare that has been translated from English to English. Were we able to pick him up and drop him off in 1500 he would have a hard time communicating with English speakers. He’d also be horrified at the male actors dressing up like women. Sorry to say this AJ, but you really did a bad job here. You were too passive and basically let Kent dominate the discussion and preach for like 80% of the time. He always uses the same old arguments. The best way would be not to ask him questions, because he will dodge them. You should have made a list of his most common arguments in advance and have crushing evidence to the contrary. Kent and his minions would of course deny such evidence exists, but the audience would be able to see it. This debate was dissapointing.

Kent was predictably willfully ignorant and oblivious the entire debate, but AJ did not do a good job presenting evidence for evolution as a whole. If I didn't already understand and agree with the theory of evolution, I would not have been convinced by this debate, which was supposed to be the point. At best I might have researched the few points he expressed well, which were his prepared slides, but AJ was wholly unprepared to respond to KH and quickly let the debate get away from the real topic. He was much too focused on calling KH out for not expressing the idea that evolution happens over generations with the right words. I think "You believe that humans came from a single celled organism over billions of generations" is at least a passing understanding, but AJ replied with "I don't believe a dog gave birth to a cat"... I know Hovind is a clown, but AJ could have focused on the point instead of going off the rails. I know the debate was proof of evolution and not an explanation of it, but since the actual concept was being misconstrued, a definition would have helped. Kent actually came closer to describing evolution when he went on his rant about believing in natural selection and microevolution than AJ ever did. Overall just a bad debate, but the prepared slides were interesting at least, and I'll go research that later.

I don’t know if it was part of your tactics but you just let Kent talk whenever he had anything to say. Yes it made Kent look aggressive and obnoxious (which he is) but it also made you look too timid in my opinion. It wasn’t so much a debate but over an hour of Kent crapping on with you providing a few points which while well made (I love the feather evidence with Kent choosing not to accept it despite it being real science) didn’t overcome the avalanche of Kent being Kent. He called you out once for using a non-biological example and then proceeded to do the same to you over half a dozen times and you didn’t call him out. I was screaming at the tv when Kent was trying to get you to explain how a single celled organism can develop into something with a backbone, explain to Kent the concept of cells and cell specialisation even how single celled organisms developed into the first plant like cells and animal like cells. He did ask AJ if the backbone formed slowly over many generations and it seemed like AJ missed that. I think AJ should have said yes to that question.
People need to press Kent on this point: He believes that there was a time that chihuahuas didn't exist. So, he necessarily believes that chihuahuas were produced from non-chihuahuas. Same thing with dogs. All dogs were produced by non-dogs. When he says we never see a dog produce a non-dogs, we respond that we have seen non-dogs produce dogs. And that there is no reason why this basic observation cannot be extrapolated back!

The absolute most frustrating thing about trying to watch any debate with Kent is his complete and utter disrespect for the other person. He interrupts, repeats himself endlessly to fill up the time, condescends, insults, strawman‘s, and straight up tells you what you do or don’t believe. And, even when you make a good point, he changes the subject back to insults. You did a great job and you definitely brought up points that I’m going to have to go look up for myself, but my goodness, that man is the worst debater I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching and certainly isn’t going to win anyone to his side on his mannerisms. If “they will know we are Christians by our love,” then he certainly needs to stop calling himself a Christian.

To an objective viewer, most people will immediately recognize his nonsense, but a lot of christians look at his debates through a lense and feel like they have to accept it, and it spreads. There are a lot of people out there that buy into his crap, no matter how awful of a person he is. It's a sad thing to watch.
In a way, Kent is obviously a horrible debater, but at the same time he's also a pretty good one and very, very practiced when it comes to a lot of the christian viewers. He knows what to say to make them feel like they have to believe him and a lot of them do, unfortunately.

Both the entire animal and plants kingdom share an common ancestor in single cells with nucli that consumed chemical energy and some their later descendants diverged into single cells that absorb energy from the sun and others by getting energy by consuming other cells and/or their remains. Many people forget that almost half the genes plants and animal possess are strictly tied to the structure of their individual cells and their various functions and organelles and there's a more overlap there than most people realize. Mostly because people rarely think of plants and animals in terms of their the cells that make them up.

I think if I were debating Kent Hovind, I would hold his feet to the fire when he says "Nobody has ever seen a dog produce a non-dog, or a cow produce a non-cow." The questions I would ask him: Kent, do you believe when a dog gives birth do a dog, it's offspring is in some way different to the parent? Do you believe when that puppy, with differences to it's parents grows up and has puppies of it's own, they will be different? If you agree with the previous two questions, is it not fair to say that over many generations, the offspring of a "Kind" can appear different to it's ancestors?

No, because that would be impossible. Their definition includes fantasy exists in actual reality and has an impact on it without the necessity of someone fantasizing about it and acting on their fantasies. And you're not a theist. So, no you won't have a shared definition of what truth is and we're not all standing for it. Some people say they stand for something and don't. You can see that they don't when they don't try and work towards what they stand for.
You can see what someone stands for by looking at what they _do_ try and work towards. For Donny that is: making it seem like god is real and the bible has any truth to it. So basically: validating a lie and trying to make people believe it's the truth.
His hypocritical lying name is a tool in that effort, it's not something he believes in. This holds true for most of the population in the world and for at least half of Americans. It's also toxic. Systematically pushing it on people and in public is abuse, not helpful, not love.
It's about the only thing I agree with Kent on, that systematically lying to people is abuse, which is what all religions make most theists do. The only ones that don't are the ones that never say a word about their beliefs and don't act on their beliefs, you know, the non existing theists and ex-theists, who don't count as theists anymore.
I would have loved to say that theists who act in a secular manner are less toxic and less damaging, but if we just look at US politics as an example we can clearly see that theists don't know the difference between secular and christian and don't care to act in a secular manner at all. Arguably that is even more toxic because it helps blind people for the damage, making it easier to do damage and perpetuate it.
As long as people look at names like Standing For Truth and believe it's not a toxic and hypocritical name, hypocrisy and the consequent damage will be part of everyday life. It drives me crazy when he brings up literature as his analogy for common design because language evolves. It literally evolves. There is a whole field of study that traces language development. The funny thing is that Kent hasn’t read Shakespeare. He is apparently unaware that the letters and spelling and structure of original Shakespeare does not look remotely like modern English. He’s read a version of Shakespeare that has been translated from English to English. Were we able to pick him up and drop him off in 1500 he would have a hard time communicating with English speakers. He’d also be horrified at the male actors dressing up like women.

Sorry to say this AJ, but you really did a bad job here. You were too passive and basically let Kent dominate the discussion and preach for like 80% of the time. He always uses the same old arguments. The best way would be not to ask him questions, because he will dodge them. You should have made a list of his most common arguments in advance and have crushing evidence to the contrary. Kent and his minions would of course deny such evidence exists, but the audience would be able to see it. This debate was dissapointing.

Kent was predictably willfully ignorant and oblivious the entire debate, but AJ did not do a good job presenting evidence for evolution as a whole. If I didn't already understand and agree with the theory of evolution, I would not have been convinced by this debate, which was supposed to be the point. At best I might have researched the few points he expressed well, which were his prepared slides, but AJ was wholly unprepared to respond to KH and quickly let the debate get away from the real topic.
He was much too focused on calling KH out for not expressing the idea that evolution happens over generations with the right words. I think "You believe that humans came from a single celled organism over billions of generations" is at least a passing understanding, but AJ replied with "I don't believe a dog gave birth to a cat"... I know Hovind is a clown, but AJ could have focused on the point instead of going off the rails. I know the debate was proof of evolution and not an explanation of it, but since the actual concept was being misconstrued, a definition would have helped. Kent actually came closer to describing evolution when he went on his rant about believing in natural selection and microevolution than AJ ever did.

Hey man thank you for fighting as hard as you did against a stacked deck and managing to come out on top. The screen share was definitely a very clever strategy.
I don’t know if it was part of your tactics but you just let Kent talk whenever he had anything to say. Yes it made Kent look aggressive and obnoxious (which he is) but it also made you look too timid in my opinion. It wasn’t so much a debate but over an hour of Kent crapping on with you providing a few points which while well made (I love the feather evidence with Kent choosing not to accept it despite it being real science) didn’t overcome the avalanche of Kent being Kent.
He called you out once for using a non-biological example and then proceeded to do the same to you over half a dozen times and you didn’t call him out.
I was screaming at the tv when Kent was trying to get you to explain how a single celled organism can develop into something with a backbone, explain to Kent the concept of cells and cell specialisation even how single celled organisms developed into the first plant like cells and animal like cells. Kent and his minions will never understand or accept it but he owned you on this because you couldn’t rebut him.
I’m a current Science teacher with more experience than Kent and a Christian who believes that evolution accounts for the diversity of life on earth better than a literal interpretation of Genesis.

I debated Rock Hard Kent thinking I’ll leave the science to those more knowledgeable on it than myself. I just went into my debate with him with the intention of trolling him. It’s all he deserves anyway.
I agree. The backbone part was hard to listen to on both sides.
@@curtissmith1391 kent didn’t seem to understand that mutations causes a backbone and the eukaryote would become a chordate. Anything then with a backbone will always be a chordate just like they will still be a eukaryote.

@@ianchenofficial yeah, it was frustrating cause Kent likes to conflate small changes over millions to billions of years with an organism being born with a backbone from a single celled organism in one step. He did ask AJ if the backbone formed slowly over many generations and it seemed like AJ missed that. I think AJ should have said yes to that question.

He believes that there was a time that chihuahuas didn't exist. So, he necessarily believes that chihuahuas were produced from non-chihuahuas. Same thing with dogs. All dogs were produced by non-dogs. When he says we never see a dog produce a non-dogs, we respond that we have seen non-dogs produce dogs. And that there is no reason why this basic observation cannot be extrapolated back!
I want to know why he keeps calling it dog kind, when by his logic it would be wolf kind, but there are also coyotes and fox’s, which clearly have a common ancestor. But are so incredibly different, he just says dog cause he has he thought process of a child seeing a wolf and says “puppy”

Spines started in our ancestral Chordates as a notocord.
Also there are reptiles with heavily keeled scales that are more similar to feathers, and there are reptiles without scales. Also to Kent’s point that birds aren’t reptiles because birds lay hard calcified eggs, so do turtles and crocodilians.
