    I wear eyegasses and this is the most informative video about eye relief and which binoculars are best for eyeglass wearers that I have seen. Good job! BTW, I received moments ago a pair of Vortex Viper 8x42 HDs. They are the first binoculars that work for me when wearing my glasses! I admit that most of those that I tried were compact binoculars and now I understand why they didn’t work and why these Vipers do. Thanks!

    I wear glasses. I have a pair of 8x30 Swarovski porro prism binoculars I got about 30 years ago. They have the fold down eye cups. They are annoying to use for the reasons stated. I can, and do, use them by taking off my glasses but going back and forth is also a problem. I got a pair of Leica Ultravid 10x25s that work fine with glasses. I could go without glasses but reading numbers in some of my other optics and other things would be a problem.
    I think the porro prism binoculars made today still use the fold down eye cups bacause they are old designs and not worth the time and trouble to make new eyecups.

    The pocket Swarovski binoculars shown have a 17mm eye relief. Excellent pockets for using with glasses. It's the OLDER models that have 13mm eye relief.

    It would be great for you to do a video on the best binocular (make and model) for eyeglass wearers in different configurations. I am hoping to narrow down to a couple of models in 8x and 10x magnification.

    Do you have a list of binoculars that you find suitable for eyeglass wearers? I clicked your link to check out binoculars for glasses wearers but it brings a wide variety of binos that have very different specifications than what you recommended. Thanks.

    One thing worth to mention is that some eyepieces are badly designed with the eye lens unnecessary deeply recessed from the eyecup edge. In some cases it results in more than 5mm of eye relief is wasted. The stated eye relief in some cases therefore is very misleading.
    And interesting that you talk about compact binoculars usually being bad for eyeglasses while holding in Swarovski CL 25mm model. At least in 8x version it's one of the best compact binos for eyeglasses. Actually better than all the binoculars you have on the table, except from Zeiss Conquest HD 8x42.

    isn't the eye relief on those pocket swaros 17mm? shouldn't they be the ideal (only?) pocket binos for glasses-wearers?

    • @AntonGudenus
      @AntonGudenus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They are indeed. Even Leica Ultravid pocket binos just offer 15mm. The Swarovskis are the only pocket binoculars so far, that seem to decently work for me with glasses on.
      But my best advice would be to actually try them yourself. There are some people who wear glasses (also depending on the frames they wear) that only need 15mm, while there are others who struggle with anything under 18mm.

    Do all pocket and compact binoculars have a diopter to compensate eye differences, and hence alleviate the need to wear glasses.

      Not all, and some will only have a diopter adjustment on one eyepiece. I use Zeiss Victory binos and they have all of those features.

      If they do have diopter setting, it's usually between +4/-4. That means if your eyesight is below/above that value or you have other conditions like astigmatism, you'll still have to use glasses.
