March 28th, 2024 New Jersey/Delaware Bay Fishing Report with Jim Hutchinson, Jr.

Opening day of the 2024 Major League Baseball season, and the weather is for the birds! We lead off this week's video fishing forecast for the tristate region with a look at bigger striped bass reported along the Delaware already, as actual catches shows the spawning migration is already inside. As for "the birds" yes, that's former Philadelphia Eagle great Trent "Tha Hunter" Cole on the cover of the April edition of The Fisherman; take a look inside this month's edition. Trout waters (7:30) are closed for stocking in New Jersey in advance of the April 6th opener; join Open Boat's Jenni Ackerman for a few fly fishing lessons prior to first pitch! Porgy season is open (16:40) in New Jersey, as the legal eagles in Trenton have finally officialized the 2024 regulations for marine waters, and then (18:45) on Monday, April 1 we're back in blackfish. Of course, it's still all about the stripers (20:30) at this point in the season with at least one for-hire out front in search of migratory fish in the weekend ahead. We wrap up this week's report with shad and an update from the Pocono Outdoors Guy (22:30) before a final run-through on (24:45) on upcoming events in the region.

"Everyone" else's season? You only mean everyone in New York right? Because while there are seasonal restrictions and closures in NY, NJ, DE and MD, there are no closed seasons on striped bass in CT, RI or MA. Learn more at www.thefisherman.com/marine-regulations/

But that’s also because NY and the NYMRAC wants to fish for 192 consecutive days starting with the summer months - New Jersey only has a one fish bag limit during the summer months of July and August, and several weeks of closures in between, including all of September. -JH
