When solar panels are operating in cold climates they will exceed their stated voltage output, thus an increase in total watts.
The standard test conditions for a photovoltaic solar panel or module is defined as being 1000 W/m2 (1 kW/m2) of full solar noon sunshine (irradiance) when the panel and cells are at a standard ambient temperature of 25 deg C (77 deg F) at sea level.
This is important to know when you size your panels in series configuration. Sometimes your total voltage of multiple panels in series will exceed your solar controller’s input capability and destroy it.

Indeed, the good solar calculators will build in a safety factor into their calcs. Renogy also shows in their documentation how to multiply your results with a safety factor of 1.25 in order to build in some fudge factor into your sizing. The calculator I used displayed the temperature factors in its advanced view tab.
This also goes to sizing one's wiring correctly according to max loads as well. When electronics fail dramatically often fire can result, so this is a very serious matter to consider in one's sizing. Thanks for your explanation!

That is good . Here in florida I am almost always way under wattage because of the heat. Some days in winter I can get just a little bit over.

The only time I seem to go over spec is during the winter. The longer summer days give me more charge per day though, and the sun is higher up in the summer so the batteries get a higher charge earlier and later in the day when the sun shines compared to winter.

good to know because i actually bought one last week. was disappointed to see 'made in china' on the box, bit of a bait n switch how they have operations in chino california. china/chino..... but if the panels are outperforming, sweet!👍🏻 especially for $110

Hard to deny the value in the Renogy brand. Documentation is also quite good. @chouckham explains well why in this case they are reaching beyond spec, the colder it gets the more output they will produce. Important to consider for those in colder climates!

The cabin came with a Renogy 400W starter kit, so I only purchased identical ones to bring it up to 800W. Otherwise if I were to do it again I would likely source the newer higher wattage made in Canada panels.
