In 1969 the Czech Socialist Republic began by federalization of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. It means state's name the Czech Republic is a product of the communism.
You are right that Czech music contributed greatly to a reawakening of Czech identity in the 19th century but the central and founding composer of Czech music was Bedrich Smetana, his operas and his famous symphonic work "Ma vlast" were a catalyst for Czech political aspirations. Ma vlast was was a genuine statement cultural aspiration but it also became music as national propaganda. In Finland Jean Sibelius wrote "Finlandia" which had a similar role in the struggle for independence for that nation.

This is really well done. I just wanted to point out that the conflict in 1618-20 (the so-called Bohemian Revolt) was between Protestants (the Estates) and Catholics (the King), not Czechs and Austrians (as in the modern-day nation of Austria). The term "Austrian" (which also applies to the later "Austrian Empire") in this context means "Habsburg". Also, Czechia became the industrial powerhouse long before the creation of Czechoslovakia. And finally, the title of the video should rather be "A Super Quick History of Czechia" because the 30 years old name "Czech Republic" is hardly fitting for the medieval or early modern kingdom. Anyway, good job.

i'm always so suprised these history channels never mention the student protests when talking about the velvet revolution. it was a big part of it. basically students were marching on the 50th aniversary of a student Jan Opletal who was killed by n*zis. and the 20th aniversary of Jan Palach, a student who set himself on fire at Wenceslas square in Prague as a protest against communists. The students marching were cornered by riot police, asked to leave, couldn't leave because the police wouldn't let them pass and then brutally beaten and arrested. This of course angered parents and middle aged people joined protests against communism, almost full country strikes (75% of people joined), and the fall of communism in czechoslovakia.
Agree that this is an important part. But still the fall of Soviet Union happened because of the collapse of the whole system, even if Czechs did literally nothing, it would’ve still ended in 1991 when Russia, Ukraine and Belarus disbanded it
The CZ-75 is one of my favorite handguns and I carry it on my hip everyday here in America. I'm just watching this video to learn a little bit about the country from which it came. Sounds like a nifty place.
Yeah as a country in the center of Europe we have some history with wars and therefore weapons and army technologies. xD A great choice of a handgun, have you seen the limited edition of CZ-75 (the one with the wooden grip)? Ofc it's too fancy for normal people but damn what an art.
I love the CZ-75 as well. There are few reasons why I belive its one the the best choices for everyday handgun. 1st the protection of the hand - the small beak that is bigger than other guns and rests between thumb and index finger - you wont get any cuts when firing the weapon, even if not properly grabed in the first moment. 2nd is the barel cover (the metal piece on top, sorry cant remember the name) is acutally put inward into the body, which means nobody can take it away like on a glock for example and its much less of an option to destroy it by dropping it.
My great-grandma immigrated from Czechoslovakia in the early 20th century so I’m trying to learn more about my heritage. Even though I’m only Czech on one side my DNA makeup is around 40% Czech. This video was very well made and informative ❤️
And where you live now, if I can ask? Btw your great-grandma did well. Most years of the 20th century were tragic for us (Czechs). How I hate nazis and communists!!! Now we have to work hard to make Czechs proud again as we were in the first republic.

@@chaotix7275 It is most dangerous for girls in specific "bad" neighbourhoods. Hi, an excellent video, I really loved it. Just a note, the guy presented as Mezel is not Menzel but Vladimir Dlouhy , a politician, who has nothing to do with culture whaaaatsoever

It's simple, before that we were the ones from the east, the communists, the Moscow henchmen. Everything we knew, had and wanted, Moscow stole from us, banned or did not allow it to continue. According to the Russians, we do not have the right to an opinion or to self-determination because we are small. However, being small within the EU and NATO does not mean not having an opinion or a voice. So we finally got the space to self-realize and make ourselves known. In 30 years of freedom, we have moved very far and there is more potential to be even better. That is why we must never turn to the east. Never again!

As a Czech republic's citizen, I love this video, even though it doesn't include many important things. Work well done!
It’s 7 minutes long, it includes more than enough for that length
This is brilliant. Extremely enjoyable.
i'm always so suprised these history channels never mention the student protests when talking about the velvet revolution. it was a big part of it.
basically students were marching on the 50th aniversary of a student Jan Opletal who was killed by n*zis. and the 20th aniversary of Jan Palach, a student who set himself on fire at Wenceslas square in Prague as a protest against communists.
Sometimes I think how brave the people must were at the time and then I look at our “modern” life right now and it sucks
Sounds like a nifty place.
imagine having a gun
o say can you see, by the dawn's early light...
2nd is the barel cover (the metal piece on top, sorry cant remember the name) is acutally put inward into the body, which means nobody can take it away like on a glock for example and its much less of an option to destroy it by dropping it.
aaaa, bratr kouboj :) tak tě pic :)
Great work as usual! Love your videos.
very good summary, the important things are there, even going into boii era, good job
Great work as always!!
Lived here for a year during my Erasmus+ at university. Honestly one of my favorite places
I don’t know why I watched this since I’m a czech and they tought us this in school but I loved this. Love from the beer land❤🇨🇿
That is one great, concentrated and unbiased video about the Czech Republic. Thanks, it fits. 👍😀

There is not such a think as "Czech DNA", that's American bullshit.
this guy just squashed everything i really need to know about our history from 2 years to 6 minutes
As a half-Czech I never get tired of hearing “Czech puns”
I'm glad that foreigners know that our little country exists🤣 btw, the way you pronounce Czech names is very funny
It seems that the Czech republic invaded this comment section.
I am from the czech republic but the teacher wants me to know WAY more than this. But truely, this is all u need! Good video!
as someone who is from the Czech Republic, I can say that it is perfectly described and very well pronounced
This guy just told me everything that I spent 9 years learning at school, in 6 minutes and 48 seconds...
Great very informative and to the point thanks very much 👍
What an informative video! Excellent. I just subscribed.
Errata: There is wrong picture for Jiří Menzel. The man on the photograph is Vladimír Dlouhý, a politician.
Nice , really good and accurate video in short cuts of my country i every seen =D
very nice. thanks a lot. it will help me to take the exam of tourist guide in Czech republic.
Greetings from Prague, and thanks for the video! No complaints there.
I've never been there, but I have a very high opinion of Checks. In many aspects they seem to have done more than their neighbors, although at least in Romania, most people don't have any opinion on them
5:19 - the whole village of Lidice vanished from maps - all men and male youngesters were taken and massacred, and all girls and kids took to concentration camps
Hus wasn't captured. He was promised safe passage to and from a council. Rome and the Hungarians broke their word and murdered him.
Yup, the always peaceful catholics teaching others to show your other cheek...
Fun Fact: When Tomas Masaryk was Czechs first president, Kunes Sonntag was Czechs first Chancellor - and I presently own his old house in Litovel :-)
The oversized lady thing is called "Venuše" (yaaay i remember something from History •v•)
6:21 Olomoucké náměstí
I was there like a month ago and its beautiful✨ theres a turtle (not real) and legends says if you pet her you will get good luck or something.Theres a sand sclupture somewhere and it's very old. Im happy that i remember something =)
You're videos are very informative and very well produced! I've been trying to research my family's history, and ur videos are very helpful to get certain points to research deeper into. Thank you!! (Edit: also ur voice is SO soothing)
I just visited Milan, Krakow, Budapest, Prague, and Stuttgart. Prague was my favorite and I hope to return soon. I want to eat some more trdelnik with fruit and whipped cream. I stayed at the Charles Bridge Hostel, which was great.
sorry to say this, but trdelnik is not czech food in any kind of way:D it had come in late 2000` to the streets of prague and its a bit of a tourist scam/attraction:D

I have moved to the Czech Republic from The Netherlands in 2018 and the increase in safety in Prague v.s. Amsterdam/Rotterdam is absolutely insane. It is so much better here
Glad you like it here! I always wanted to visit the Netherlands, especially Arnhem and Ameland, Amsterdam eventually too . How dangerous is it there?
@@chaotix7275 It is most dangerous for girls in specific "bad" neighbourhoods.
After that, I think in bigger cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, The Hague, the atmosphere at the most popular nightlife hotspots/area's can get pretty aggressive. You will see 1 if not more fist fights every weekend if you go out and stay late. It's mostly specific ppl targeting each other and not random violence, but it does not add to a general feeling of safety.
Both Krakow in Poland and Prague in CZ feel much safer :) I have spent 5 years in each, with Prague still counting :D
You moved from the Netherlands to Czechia!!!
Or if to the Czech Republic then from the Dutch Kingdom!!!
I’m here after reading “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”
This is so much better than school
And also your pronounciations are the best
Foreign TH-camr makes a video about Czechs:
Czechs in the comment section: *Dobrý den*
I'm imlressed, obviously the synopsis is a bit idealized but it hit on most of the important points.
Hi, an excellent video, I really loved it. Just a note, the guy presented as Mezel is not Menzel but Vladimir Dlouhy , a politician, who has nothing to do with culture whaaaatsoever
As a Czech I love this video. great job!
One very important event is missing: 863 - two byzantines missionaires, Cyril and Methodius, came to Great Moravia. This had a big impact also on the christianization and cultural development of Czech lands.
Also in the end there is a photo of exminister Vladimir Dlouhý instead of director Jiří Menzel :) (which made me smile while Mr. Dlouhý has reputation for stuffing himself everywhere)
:)
akorat to neni mr. dlouhy, ale bolsevik dlouhy :)
As a german it becomes ever more apparent to me how intertwined german an Czech history and to a certain extent culture is/was. And this makes the disaster of ww2 even worse considering what we have done to the Czech populace.
I have no idea how modern day Czechs view us germans but I'd definitely like to visit one day!
Grüße aus Deutschland
I never knew how historically rich the Czech Republic is. At lot has happen in that part of the world.

Greetings from Czech, video is awesome :)
even if you are not Czech, I must say that you often said Czech words correctly
bruhhhhh why did i learn my history more from a 6 minutes video than a year of learning teachers really need to lear from this guy
came after watching jiri prochazka ufc post fight interview where he just talks about training MMA in a forest. hes from czech just thought id see what his country is all about.. very intresting!
I have to applaud you, you really nailed the pronounciation. Nice video btw.
Cool. My Great grandfather left for America in the 1890s, would love to go there some day!

Just out of curiosity, how do you pronounce your last name? With Czech pronunciation, it would sound like "flee check" or, you know, "Flee Czech" - a fitting name for an emigrant 😂
every video that includes czechia single handedly summons every czech. seriously guys, i don't see you anywhere BUT videos about czechia. i think I've seen every nationality but czechs. 😨
great job. You nailed the most important events in our history. Maybe only Munich Agreement in 1939 could be included.
ummm sorry the Munich Agreement was not in 1939
it was in 1938

As Czech i can say that you did great job
Nice video, I would like to point out, that in the photo of Jiří Menzel is not Jiří Menzel, but Vladimír Dlouhý. Vladimír Dlouhý is the head of the Chamber of commerce and a former politician.
This is very good video ;)
when you have a test tomorrow about czech be like:
Loved the video man
I like how people are actually starting to notice our country
It's simple, before that we were the ones from the east, the communists, the Moscow henchmen. Everything we knew, had and wanted, Moscow stole from us, banned or did not allow it to continue. According to the Russians, we do not have the right to an opinion or to self-determination because we are small. However, being small within the EU and NATO does not mean not having an opinion or a voice. So we finally got the space to self-realize and make ourselves known. In 30 years of freedom, we have moved very far and there is more potential to be even better. That is why we must never turn to the east. Never again!
