- At last, a change to try business class on Frecciarossa. I've been subjected to standard class a few times (four around a table), so I had high expectations. It's a great train, but still didn't pass my 'Rock 'n' Roll' test.
Filmed April 2024 | Rome, Italy.

You're right.
The Rock n Roll test is always my favourite. More entertaining than that TH-cam channel you were watching ;)
Not at all. One's about rocking & rolling trains, the other is a rock & roll lifestyle!
You always have Steve's videos on when checking TH-cam, and him yours 😁😁😁
I like to include a little 'Easter Egg' in my videos if I can.
It must be a Scottish thing…
It’s nice to see the cameos of Steve and Alicja. I think this should be a continuing feature. Sort of like Hitchcock. 😊
I too like the respectable nods to each other in your videos. I think the next race / challenge should come soon...
I am loving the cameo when checking Wifi connection… does make me chuckle!
We did Naples to Rome and return a few weeks ago, same train type, very impressed, put UK railway to shame, good film thanks
Your review of the corrour station house made it into the Scottish Sun
Just enjoyed your latest video, today I was 58th to watch, keep safe, regards from Leeds Yorkshire England
Great stuff, many thanks. Three weeks ago I took Frecsiarossa business class from Milano Centrale to Trieste on a first class Interrail pass and it was excellent. Not as high speed as your Roma route of course but still only about 4 hours all in. It was completely full until Venezia, then mostly empty to Trieste. I make you right about the platform announcements: despite it being evening rush hour in Milano, our platform was first announced 25 mins AFTER our scheduled departure time, then CHANGED 5 mins after that, and we left JUST 10 mins later (about 40 mins late). It was like Black Friday at Walmart ... utter chaos!
The food market in Termini is fantastic!
I did Bologna Roma on the freciarossa business class quiet carriage 2 weeks ago. Outstanding
Great content, keep it up! I will be visiting Bergamo this year on your recommendation!
Great value journey, it seems to me! Loved the way you tested the WiFi too, with that wee TH-cam clip of Steve and Alicja. Nice gesture, Scott!
Great timing of this video as we are looking to book a day trip to Milan when we are in Rome next month, thanks,
Thank you for sharing another interesting video
Interestingly Roma Termini doesn't mean terminus, although it is. It's named after nearby Roman thermal baths.
And Milano Centrale has a secret royal waiting room with swastikas on the floor for when Hitler visited.
Interesting factoid of the day! Thank you.
Wonder how much more Business is than Standard...well at 83Euros it can't be too much more. Seems a very good price for a 3 hour journey and plenty of leg room. Great video - channel is growing and growing :)
Nice one one Scott, how about Poland this summer?
We used it in 19 going from Milan to Naples, great train
Lovely Scott
Thank you!
First time commenting on your videos Scott. I've been watching for over a year now but I tend not to comment on videos as I tend to jump from one straight onto the next one (a symptom of ADHD!). Anyway I love your channel, also Steve's and there's another younger Scottish chap called Dale Phillip who travels around Asia who I enjoy. It's no coincidence that my three favourite travel vloggers are Scotsmen as we've been well travelled since way back when (I've been exiled in England for 51 of my 53 years!). I'd love to travel Europe by train before my days are up.
Your comments about waiting to tell customers the platform are very apt. With bad knees I hate having to "run" just to get on a train even though I may have a booked seat. booking.
If you liked Business class you need to try Executive class next 😉
Absolutely amazing video. Keep up the great work. Stay safe. Enjoy
Lovly italy , we was in sunny Pescara last sommer
GOAT
This is a brilliant video and looks like it's well worth the money 😊
To be fair, at Inverness station they don’t usually call the platforms until 10 minutes before the trains leave (three trains at the same time) usually utter chaos particularly with all the tourists.
for me train travel is so much better than when i was younger, because i am a wheelchair user so i had to travel in the guards van, not fun at all
Totally agree with facing forward, I think I'd have gone for the curry roll then the jam slice - just in case to take the taste away!
Italo is even more ludicrous, try its business class next.
Not a bad snack box 😉 it seems with a brew 😉 never travels on a train in italy but it looked the bizz in business class 😊
When I was at Roma Termini I was surprised by the amount of security
(Station security, police and military)
But I did feel really safe there
It would have just the opposite effect on me
As I said I felt safe
But it made me question why so much security

The ETR 1000 train is the starting point for the new HS2 trains when they are built, so a UK sized version will be coming to Glasgow Central and Edinburgh at some point in the future.
Some point in the very distant future sadly
We did much the same last year except it was Venice to Milan in Business class and as we booked very early we paid, i think, 29 Euro each for the same service, and train etc, of note was that we were stopped in a local station due to a bomb found next to the tracks and were diverted back and diverted via Bologna, then he could get the hammer down and the speed tracker did show all of 300 kph... and as we were in Business we got complimentary free wine during the delay and diversion... .... However once we got to Milan 3 hours late the Delay Repay refunded ALL our fares , That paid for our trip to Como.
What? No “cruising altitude” coffee? :)
Very nice Scott, might try Italo (the competitor) next time, they're expanding to other countries like Spain (though w/ different names)
oh we rode that back in 2012 from roma to milano
and there were Steve and Alicjia :-)
Baller eats his sweet before his savoury.
I always use an airline type seat on trains so I'm not facing people! That was a lot of plastic packaging on your snack box!
Wish our trains would have the split/ folding tables on the four seats, so much easier to get into the window seat.
The Frecciarossa business class has the chance of staff serving coffee with pots and a cart, like LNER 1st.
SCOTT CHECKING ON ALIJCA 😢😅😊
What was the music? It was really great
Did you ‘Willy bag’? lol!
Today, added bonus material: The history of wheelie luggage 🧳

The suitcase issue was the harder challenge.
No different to Glasgow Central Ayr line trains then😅
My second class ticket with Cross Country train cost me £71.70 to Cambridge (99.70 miles from B'ham) with no sockets for mobile or laptop charges 😊 , no coffee bar , no extra legroom😅 Thankfully I was lucky enough to show my online ticket 🎉
I prefer italo👍
Scott, through which website did you book your tickets? Next month I will be travelling 1st class Milan to Genoa to Turin, I booked my tickets with Trenitalia and reserved specific seats at the time of ticket purchase. Paid in euros and no 3rd party handling fees incurred (using a card that does not charge a foreign currency transaction fee too). Have done likewise before with German, French and Portuguese railways, always booking online direct with the local operator. Some 3rd party providers do not provide for seat selection, I avoid these too.
Windows don't look terribly clean though, particularly looking into the sun. The riding seems ... well, a bit swayey, if that's a word.
You complain about the lack of time between the announcing of the platform in Rome and the train's departure!
Have you ever travelled from London Euston?
Oh Roma Termini - bad memories last year. Just hope you don't have to get to the platforms 19-24 all the way to the right, which you may assume are all together with the other platforms, but in reality are a heck of a long walk down platform 1 - not ideal when you thought you had time for some well earned Gelato (it was August), but now you're having to jog down the platform with 80 year old mother behind to catch the train back to Civitaveccia!
So if you are on a cruise and get off a few stops early at San Pietro on the way in - be warned!
Thanks to @LucaPasini2 for correcting me on the platforms!
Possibly this service uses these platforms on a regular basis, good point to watch for - I can't remember myself as it is 10 years since I last travelled this route but will be doing again in the near future, at least you were in time to catch the train as the cruise ship will not wait for anyone!!
Yes, true, though thankfully the ship was in port overnight! Still a stress though. Seat 61 says that those platforms are for local trains - guess Civittavechia is kind of local, only an hour.
Enjoy your next cruise whenever it happens!
Platform 1 and 2 Est are usually used by regional trains heading to Ancona or Perugia, which are the ones I usually take. I found out that, if you're arriving to the station using the Metro, it's way better to take line B to Tiburtina station and wait for the train there, even if you're arriving on line A. Leaving the Metro Station at Termini, crossing the whole concourse, go through the gates and then walk all the way to the platforms takes much more than the trip to Tiburtina.
If you were headed to Civitavecchia I think you actually departed from platforms 19-24, which are on the exact opposite side of the station but almost as far as the East ones.
@@LucaPasini2 Yep you're right, tried to find a platform map but no go, so apologies for the mistake! Great tip on Tiburtina station, I'll remember that.
Roma Termini looks like a very large Euston. Isn't it supposed to be one of the biggest stations in Europe?
Milano Centrale is a much nicer station.
I don't understand the fascination some rail companies have with 4 at a table and compartment seating. Seems a less efficient use of space and more inconvenient to the solo traveler or those traveling in pairs. Sure, one or two tables per carriage, but arrange the rest as on airplanes.
In Italy trains have traditionally always had that seating layout: if the train is not full you have much more legroom, and each row of seats has access to a full window, allowing everyone to see outside clearly. Old intercity carriages used to have compartments with a 3+3 layout and a corridor on the other side, but nowdays you can only find them on night trains.
Regional trains used to have a 4 at the table layout as well, but the new EMUs and DMUs that are now quickly becoming the norm have mostly airline style seating, and some rows don't have access to a window at all, but they're built in a totally different way, with a low floor and larger windows.
or a chance? ;-)
Being able to watch the Steve and Alicja Show (at 4:18) no doubt made your train journey a good bit more enjoyable. 👍
I presume that fare in biz class wasn't much more than steerage with your Scottish heritage for thrift or you wouldn't have done so. That is so much better than the USA's Amtrak.
Nice video and how come everyone does it better than the uk? We are a poor 4th in what we provide
no glassys ^??^ maybe cönträctß >o-o>??
