Funny thing is Frozen and Joker honestly tell a very similar story: mental illness. However, one did it brilliantly while the other failed. Watching Joker really made me realize where Disney went wrong there. Mental illness is FAR more complex than fear or isolation. If they made Elsa more sympathetic (say show her being treated like a freak repeatedly and told she can't be the future ruler, causing her to be very emotionally unstable), I think people would have responded to that film VERY differently.

I swear Joker was almost an exact replica of 80's-90's New York City. The set designer should win an Oscar for that alone. From the Buildings to the garbage to the taxis and buses they even managed to get the old red birds with a few slight alterations.
Well they filmed alot of it in the Bronx a few blocks away from Yankee Stadium (Shakespeare Ave being where the stairs are) and that whole Grand Concourse neighborhood hasn't changed too much since then so it was a perfect spot to film in. I live not too far from there and during my first viewing I was able to tell where it was filmed just by the building architecture.
Keep in mind also that Gotham is supposed to *be* New York at its worst and lowest moments in its worst neighborhoods, so 70s and 80s New York is a perfect depiction.

They strongly implied that he killed her. He shows up in her apartment, scares her and does the 'blowing out his brains' gesture again, then it cuts away. We never hear that she calls the police or see her again at all. Not to mention that she was acting pretty scared of him, I figured that alone might set him off if he thought they were dating. It's possible he didn't hurt her but I don't think she survived.
I don’t know why anyone would say he killed (don’t remember her name). It’s shown that he doesn’t kill indiscriminately, it’s only people who have purposefully hurt him. Since she never hurt him like that it’s very unlikely he would do the same.

The problem is that while on the most technical level such a thing exists, it's actually literally unwatchable- it'd be like four hours of entirely unedited footage with no special effects or anything.

It was kind of unnecessary, but it shows just how deep the relationship of the Joker and Batman is. At the beginning, he thought that he and Bruce were related because of Thomas' "affair", but it turns out they weren't. But when the actions of the Joker almost directly resulted in Bruce's parents' death, they became connected forever because of that.
The way I see it, the movie is not about the origin of THE Joker, just an insight into the often deranged nature of Gotham City and how it can break a person, who becomes A joker, who obviously provided inspiration for THE Joker but isn't him. When you release yourself from the idea that this is THE Joker, you'll open yourself to seeing a damn interesting film, one which keeps the mystique of the Joker in-tact.

I always figured the stairs were a symbol of his transition from sanity to insanity. The cops, his home, his mom, were all up at the top of the stairs. His final trip is down those stairs, away from reality, when the cops were trying to chase after him.
Fun fact: Ever since Honest Trailers started in 2012, no movie that was nominated for Best Picture and got a full Honest Trailer before the ceremony ever went on to win Best Picture. So that means there's no way Joker is going to win Best Picture...right?
One of the things I most loved about this film was the award worthy set design and decoration. There was garbage, dirt, and graphitti all over the place, like literally evrywhere. It's kind of amazing, and should have garnered some technical awards
I love a great villain flick. Provides so much more depth to the character. They aren’t just simply evil - they arrived where they are now for significant reasons. This story was more compelling to me than Batman ever was.

I feel like how much of an "Underdog" this movie was is often exaggerated. The movie is based on one of the most iconic villains ever, had people hyped before the trailer got released. And afterwards the trailers trended And got people even more hyped with how well edited it was. And after the first trailer there were MONTHS of Hype, Memes, ECT before it came out. With many already calling it a Masterpiece. And the "Controversy" only happened a little while before the movie came out. Of freaking course it was a success.

Thing is, the director had a point. The journalists who were misunderstanding the movie were demonstrating that they were part of the "Woke Culture" of misunderstanding things that he was talking about.

I always figured the stairs were a symbol of his transition from sanity to insanity. The cops, his home, his mom, were all up at the top of the stairs. His final trip is down those stairs, away from reality, when the cops were trying to chase after him.

One of the things I most loved about this film was the award worthy set design and decoration. There was garbage, dirt, and graphitti all over the place, like literally evrywhere. It's kind of amazing, and should have garnered some technical awards

I love a great villain flick. Provides so much more depth to the character. They aren’t just simply evil - they arrived where they are now for significant reasons. This story was more compelling to me than Batman ever was.

I feel like how much of an "Underdog" this movie was is often exaggerated.
The movie is based on one of the most iconic villains ever, had people hyped before the trailer got released. And afterwards the trailers trended And got people even more hyped with how well edited it was.
And after the first trailer there were MONTHS of Hype, Memes, ECT before it came out. With many already calling it a Masterpiece. And the "Controversy" only happened a little while before the movie came out.
Of freaking course it was a success.
I feel like they say that because of the medias negative coverage on it. In reality though I'll bet money that actually boosted its sales

I'd literally never heard of it before it came out on DVD and I found it on Amazon Prime Video. It was absolutely outstanding though, that's for sure.

Thing is, the director had a point. The journalists who were misunderstanding the movie were demonstrating that they were part of the "Woke Culture" of misunderstanding things that he was talking about.

I mostly remember reading a bunch of people worried the film would be a rallying cry to acts of violence on the part of angry loners. In some cases, they seemed legit concerned that it would vindicate acts of violence against the wealthy, specifically, because of deep personal resentment.
How is any of that "Woke Culture" misunderstanding things? Sounds more like either the usual "young people these days scare me" stuff, or a more specific fear on the part of the establishment of the great unwashed finding their retaliatory inspiration in a mere film. Blame the music, blame the video games.... same old, same old.
