"Show, dont tell' is not that much of a rule. It's a tiny rule. The reason why it's a "rule" in the first place, especially in literature, is that editors or teachers didn't want you to overdo it with the "telling" part. It's like using "and" at the beginning of a sentence. You can use it, but hopefully not that much... or when you absolutely have to. There are plenty of books out there that "tell" more so than "show."

Saw this today, and somehow was let down despite having low expectations. There are a few elements which stand out, mainly Patrick Wilson and his banter with Jason Momoa. I wish that was the majority of the movie instead of a small part of the overall package. I'm really hoping Gunn is able to revive DC and bring some magic their movies need.

Took me this long to see it. Bad acting, bad story, bad casting, bad villians, bad plastic surgery (to the point of distraction), and bad CGI. Loved man of steel. What a shame this is how it ended.

Because Sauron is returning in Act III with underwater wraiths.

It's funny to hear you say that the film got too big, because I just finished watching children of dune last night, the same day I saw aquaman 2, and it deals with the idea of possession by a "ghost" in a more character focused way that I think works much better and doesn't involve any threat to kill all life on earth

Nice review, Dan. Thanks for your honesty, transparency and shooting for objectivity. Why I love your channel.
And thanks for sharing your journey with this franchise.
And no, I’m not going. Haven’t been actually boycotting DC movies, like I have been for all Disney properties. Just haven’t been interested in anything they have done since THE BATMAN. Maybe it’s my own so-called “superhero burnout”. Or maybe it’s just that there hasn’t been much very good in the latest pictures.

I enjoyed it. Not as good as the first but it was an enjoyable film. Some of the jokes fell flat buy the chemistry between Jason Mamoa and Patrick Wilson was good.
This film did something right that others get wrong. They didn’t kill of the villains in the first film, and that allows them to be used again to progress the story and explore the characters in a different way.

From the clips I've seen, it looks like the 3D showings are the way to go. Even if the movie isn't great, the 3D (if done well) could be the saving grace for theatrical viewing. Of course, 3D usually looks better on home displays but Warner probably won't offer a 3D bluray. No wonder they have financial issues.

I think making movies that are smaller in scale and revolve over 2-3 characters is less done in superhero movies because marketing plays a huge role. A movie with a trailer that contains visually large set pieces is more easy to market and get people curious enough to buy a ticket/pay on stream.
