The fb chassis getting some much needed love! What a fantastic build! I cant even begin to imagine the amount of money spent on just sourcing parts for the engine alone...
Rotaries dont need to run with 2 stroke oil but guys who run custom builds run premixed fuel because they delete the oul squirters. Chirro you didnt rev it out enough though lol. They work best around 9000rpm.. pull till you feel you need ti change and then let it rev more. Been driving rotaries from a young age. And most of them make their cleanest power between 6 and 9 thousand
What I'd like to know is where did they get the eccentric shaft from for the 4 rotor?? Those cost a small fortune. Well done on the build. Spotted some trick bits in that short video. Glad the SA guys are realizing we can build decent stuff if we put our mind to it despite having Randela Fokolies compared to dollars and pounds.
@@jeffbruce9589 I really want to know how you build the shaft yourself. Even better, do you have build plans or measurements available? Particularly the distance between the center two rotors?
Love the Car built but i'm wondering what year is this rx7 cause he said series 1 but the tail lights are not of a series 1, but the rear end is molded with the bumper so im curious if the rear end was cut and moled into a series 2-3 rear end cause a series 1 rear end is very unique vs a series 2-3, or he could've meant just 1st generation rx7 and not series 1.
Nice build and congratulations to the father and son duo on their fantastic achievements.. however the quad doesn't sound like a usual 4 rotor, infact it sounds like a 13b? What's the deal with that? Is it your recording equipment or have they changed the firing order of the engine different to the typical 4 rotor design adopted by most Australian and New Zealand. By the way it's not a series 1 as indicated on video, it's a series 2 or 3 I believe
@@proactive_studio there are a lot of examples of 4 rotors on you tube, both turbo and N/A.. the only difference between the n/a versions and turbo versions is that the turbo versions are more muffled but have a similar pitch.. the engine in this video sounds like a 13b, almost as though they constructed the eccentric shaft from 2 13b shafts with each rotor firing 180 deg after the rotor before.. where as all other quad , l believe, are 90 degrees apart.. similar to when Yamaha changed the firing order on the r1, it changed the note of the engine significantly..
I'm glad you pointed that out - because I was gonna say, "This is either a 4 rotor build with the e-shaft positioning the rotors 180° apart, or it's a peripheral port 2 rotor engine running inside of a makeshift 4 rotor block assembly. I know the sound of a 2 rotor when I hear one. The same goes for a 3 rotor and a 4 rotor. Most 4 rotor assemblies position the rotors 90° apart - and turbocharged or naturally aspirated, open exhaust or with 15 mufflers - the firing order has a VERY distinct and unmistakable sound between 2 rotor, 3 rotor and 4 rotor engines. This RX7 is cool regardless - just the exhaust note is not what I was expecting 🤷♂️
I often wonder what became of the gold RX7 that used to run at the 1km drag race events at ODI and Brakpan Airfield back in the early 2000`s, that thing could keep pace with a superbike on the 1km...
Looks good. Sounds good. Seemed to scare you a bit? Heh! Not criticising. If the seats too far back and the brakes are a bit suspect only only responsible thing to do is take it a bit easy. Seem the rotor seals might be on their way out. There's a lot of smoke happening out back. I still want it though.

Mmmmmmmmm great to see proper built rotaries in our country
I'm very happy I get to see an episode where you actually driving one of these cars
Gosh, that car sounds insane.

We some serious engineering talent in this country of ours❤️🙌🏿
There's an RX-8 that lives near me here in the UK and it sounds so amazing. It's been race ported, etc and it's beyond loud.
Quad rotary engines sound so good 😍

We need a hardcore sports car brand here. We have the skilled workforce, the know-how and the supply chain. Why can't we make it happen???
Looks and feels mean as hell. I love it

we make the shafts etc

Love videos like this
That's great to hear! Thank you
Who was the builders for the quad rotor rx7
Pity it was not revved higher, since a QUAD Rotor sounds VERY similar to a Formula 1 car. The build must be one of a handful in SA. Well done.
Yeah he was pussyfooting around as we would say here in the states.
Beautiful build. Not easy getting 4 rotors going.

The Two Stroke of Four Strokes.

I was thinking exactly the same. It doesn't quite sound right as a 4 rotor. Anyone just search 787B or Rob Dahm and you'll see what we mean
It’s NA that’s why i think it sounds different. Rob Dahm’s is turbo’d, dunno about the 787b 🤷🏾♂️
The 787B is NA PP

Um ...?..love that two stroke roughness
where is this?? I also want to go do donuts.
That car sounds lukker
Doesn't sound as great as other 4 rotors but great job nonetheless
It sounds weird. A 12a sounds better. This is two 13b glue together
Dit maak my gat jeuk!
I had a friend who just bought an RX8, not even a day later he blew the engine, so he swapped in an Astra OPC motor
Not the most reliable engine but they do make really good power
Lol probably didn’t use 2-stroke oil… but these engines are so much easier to rebuild than normal, since there’s no valves etc
Your friend should have bough a bicycle and left the rotaries for the adults
2 13b

Wondered if they made the eccentric shaft or ?
Car needs to come back with a 2nd vid with the owners maybe they could rev it out ; P
