When she moved from Las Vegas to LA, she joined the Groundlings improv group, where she met Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) and Phil Hartman, of Saturday Night Live and Troy McClure from The Simpsons fame. In the late 70s, she toured with a gay drag comedy revue called Mama's Boys, where she played Mama. One of the guys from the revue, Bob Redding, became a close friend of hers, helped her come up with the Elvira dress, which highlighted her "assets", and hid her scars, and helped her with her makeup routine as Elvira. The early 80s were tough for her, with many of her gay friends from the revue dying of AIDS, but Bob Redding didn't come down with and succumb to AIDS until the mid to late 80s, a bit before "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark" went into production. She named the male love interest in the movie Bob Redding as a tribute.
My dad used to do business with her husband back in the 80s. I got to meet her at a picnic event (as Cassandra). She taught me how to play croquet. I was probably around 11 years old. She was so nice to the kids.
With Elvira's sass, puns and...ehmm...assets, I think Emily has found her spirit animal! 😊
Fun fact: The painting is actually her with her natural hair color.
My favorite shot in the movie is when she wakes up in the middle of the night, and her hair is spread out all over the sheets and her makeup is over the top perfectly done.
There's some great gothic horror references in this.

Cassandra didn't use double sided tape. She had bras that were designed and first used by burlesque dancers Lili St. Cyr. There was still occasional accidents......once in this movie when she was grabbed from behind in the bowling alley fight. She used to joke that they popped out so often on her tv show that the crew became bored with them. She is a very talented lady.....actor, writer, comedian, singer, dancer........and very lovely to look at, in costume as Elvira or as herself

She was also the school secretary in Ferris Beuhler's day off.

When you immediately need a costume wig and find that one that is close enough, it can be a treasure.

My favorite part of this movie is that if they had just simply offered her the $70,000 for the house she would have been gone.
They intentionally made things harder on themselves because they were stuck up.

You could absolutely play Elvira's sister. You too have the talents to do so. LOL Cassandra Peterson, "Elvira" is a natural red head, and the portrait of her aunt was really her IRL. She not only was a 'Vegas showgirl, but she also did vaudeville where she learned a great strip tease act. I rate it as a "DDD".

yeah a Vegas showgirl before she turned 18... which i was a little shocked reading about in her book, a great read highly recommend.
This and "Rocky Horror Picture Show" are two of the classics where you either have the necessary humor or you don't.
Elvira is simply amazing. I grew up watching her show, Elvira’s Movie Macabre, and her humor offset the (for kid me) scary movies. She’s a beauty and a treasure.

There was an episode of "Count's Customs" that covered Cassandra Peterson bringing in that car to be refurbished and modified. Danny Coker is a pal of hers and she told him she had tracked the movie car down years later and bought it. I think a few items like the small barbed wire steering wheel were not road legal.

He He Tiddies: The Motion Picture
The movie was cowritten by Cassandra, Sam Egan, and John Paragon--her writing partner and fellow Groundlings member (best known as Jambi from Pee-Wee's Playhouse, and played the gas station attendant in this movie). Edie McClurg, who played Chastity, was another fellow member. Cassandra and John Paragon also had cameos in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure and Cheech & Chong's Next Movie (which also starred Edie McClurg & Paul Reubens).
The painting of Elvira's "pretty" aunt was Cassandra out of costume.
I'm really not surprised you enjoyed this one. It's an overlooked classic and an absolute joy to watch you have so much fun with it.
Btw, 99% of men watching this movie likely couldn't tell you what colour your wig was let alone whether it was any good so I wouldn't sweat it too much 😉😳😂

If you haven't seen it, the original Hairspray from 1988 would be a good follow up to this. So campy, so much fun.

elvira still has that car. unfortunately the steering wheel, licence plate and the little gargoyle at the front of the trunk had to be replaced with normal ones (goverment lweird law policys if i heard right) but she auctioned those items off recently along with her original wig (the first elvira wig) a couple of scripts and some costumes

I had a feeking you'd adore this movie. Not only is Elvira a feminist icon, she's hilarious too. The only reason I even watched Manos: The Hands of Fate was because there was a version here on TH-cam that she hosted. The movie sucks, but she made it bearable.

I don't know HOW I came to know Elvira, but I absolutely remember seeing this movie when it came out (I was 8 or 9), and then getting to see her at Knott's Berry Farm like a year or two later. She's always been amazing and hysterical to watch, lol. I do wish I could have gone to see her when she brought Elvira back to Knott's back in the late 2010s, but at least I'll always have this movie.

I usually make it a rule to not watch reaction vids to movies I’ve yet to see, but I had to put this one on because of, he he, Emily’s… make-up! Fabulous job! But what I didn’t know would be highlight was at 38:15, and Pippin suddenly being suddenly more awake than ever at the mention of the O word 😂

I've been one of the ones pointing to this film for you to check out since subbing to this channel. I KNEW this would be right up your alley, and i'm glad I was right. I was a big fan of this as a kid, tho ofcourse, i missed most of the jokes until later. lol loved Elvira as a character and had already been a fan from her tv show before seeing this. this film just hit all the right notes for cheese, horniness, decent effects and even the acting I thought was well done.
Another reason I liked her was her similarities to another Woman Of The Night that i was a fan of growing up, Morticia Addams from the Addams family. tho i know they were both inspired by vampira. Very different character, ofcourse, but hard not to draw the comparison.
Elvira is also one of the reasons I became a fan of stuffs like Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Joe Bob Briggs. just celebrating the fun, cheesy classic horror and sci-fi films.
A guy I know directed the sort of sequel, Elvia haunted hill's. This film is lower budget and has a different vibe, but is a fun film that gets better with multiple viewings. Think 60's comedy horror and you'll get the picture.

Emily, Elvira could be your grandmother! Anyway, that opening sequence is a real movie called It Conquered The World. Composer and song writer Frank Zappa makes mention of it in one of his live prologues to his song Cheepnis, about a gigantic poodle that terrorizes the world. You may like that movie for its cheese and cheap Ed Wood style production.
