    had one and it grab the wood I was carving kicked back and got my finger and nearly took my finger off through the very thick leather welding gloves I had on for protection witch was useless and was stuck in the ER for the rest of the night just my experience with them

    On a 4.5 inch grinder its not gonna be cutting anything real thick but for shaping wood/sculpture i can really see potential in it. I have seen people just put a circular saw blade in a grinder which requires taking the guard off and is likely even less safe

    This would make an awesome demolition tool! My first boss as a carpenter was a big fan of using chainsaws for framing. I think you could be a bit more accurate using this chain disk over a chainsaw.

      I got told to put my chainsaw away or get off site years ago. even with an up to date chainsaw cert. the H&S police on site start reciting all the company regs. a chainsaw in the right hands is the quickest way to get a line of plumb cuts on a cut roof

      Half the tradies I have spoken with agree with OH&S and the other half feel they abuse their power.... It's a shame as it is a very handy tool. I often use a chainsaw for building work but I live on a farm so my own rules apply and the style of building work is different anyway.
      They banned the big 9" angle grinders from most commercial sites here in Australia a few years back now. One of the latest I heard about was no longer can you work off a ladder, it must be a platform but I left the city 5 yrs ago now and I don't keep up with the regulations anymore.

    I'm just waiting for a cut-off wheel tool idea for my stihl chain saw, so my chainsaw can be a 9inch grinder..

  • @MrGlorybe
    @MrGlorybe 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is no danger of throwing the chain as these devices are usually welded all the way around the blade. On the other hand a normal saw blade with carbide teeth can toss apiece of carbide at you like a tiny, sharp bullet. Full face shields are a blessing if you can stand wearing them and coverage of the throat is wise around many power tools as well.

    • @michailbialkovicz878
      @michailbialkovicz878 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chain is riveted and not welded

    • @MrGlorybe
      @MrGlorybe 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim Sadler Never seen a welded chain or chain welded to a disc. Halves of the disc are spot welded, but chain isn't welded to the disc.

      possibility for that is quite remote, but still iwould not buy it thouse are too expensivecompareing with its life cycle its more use to wood sculptors who use chainsaws and if you make more detailed cuts then it is easyer to use that than a chainsaw

    This is a dangerous bit of kit! Angle grinders are bad enough with abrasive discs when a kick back occurs. If this kicks you'll be messed up quick! I had a kick back with an abrasive disc - happens in less than a second using a 9 inch grinder. The disc pinched, snapped in half and flew back at me with extreme force , luckily missing my face and landed on my hand with the blade spinning full bore - cut clean through three tendons before I could brush it off. Why not just use a chainsaw, than this dangerous chainsaw disc. kick back is more controllable on a chainsaw.

    • @Devan...
      @Devan... 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel that the 4 1/2 inch disc wouldnt be too bad. Ive never really had any kickback while using abrasive discs. This would be great for chainsaw sculpting.

    • @johncooper751
      @johncooper751 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Give it a go, 4 1/2 inch is much less violent, just be careful not to pinch the disc. Treated it with respect it'll probably ok for sculpting. you can get grinders with a clutch which cuts them out if it detects a kickback - might be worth considering. With abrasives the danger is pinching, depending on how bad it happens, i've had it where the disc was brought to a dead stop and the energy of the grinder had to go somewhere so the disc snaps in half and the grinder recoils straight at you. Luckily I had a good surgeon sew me back together! I use a grinder all the time building stuff and had been using one for many moons before the accident. Stay safe ;-)

      @spinaway 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i was cutting a thin piece of metal with a cutting disc when it dug into the metal and dragged the grinder out of my grip and it flew across the workshop, had anybody been stood in front of me it would have done them some damage, so i would hate to see whst would happen if this beast dug in.

    • @gabbermaikel
      @gabbermaikel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      let me guess, you use the grinder with it wanting to come towards you like i see a lot of americans do? We over here use it the other way around, if my grinder catches it trys to fly away from me, might hurt a bit on the hands and might damage what im working on but why cares. But the way the americans use them it is going to shoot back at you, and thats why the american way is the stupid way.
      And yes with our way there is a bigger chance of shooting the sparks at yourself, but that is why you wear proper clothing when using a grinder. That means long trousers that wont catch fire and long sleeves that are pretty tight so they wont get caught.

    • @johncooper751
      @johncooper751 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm intrigued how you use a grinder. Which country are you from?? I thought there was only one way to use a grinder. Can you send a link of someone or you using a grinder in the way you suggest? I most certainly use it the American way and get a lot of work done. Using it any other way would seem pretty cackhanded.

    • @101boertjie
      @101boertjie 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is no more dangerous that using a chainsaw for wood-sculpting or using the other version of this tool i saw with the "chain" being a free-running chain around that disk that picks up speed when the disk is spinning. In the latter case the only benefit is that when the chain gets "stuck" the grinder will not jerk and possibly get pulled out of your hands.

      if you hit a knot however, it will just kick back straight into your face..... people have died putting Circular saw blades onto angle grinders and going at it on tree stumps.
