    Thanks so much! little tip! as a rule, holes for bolts are burned - it's more reliable!

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great tip! We 'cut' the holes as per the video produced by The Bush Company, they did it so did we, but the 'burn' idea does in principle sound like a better option, too late for us but others could try that technique.
      Peace.

    Fantastic video! Thanks so much!! First time I’ve been able to get a clear understanding of the entire installation process. And thanks for the tip to reconfigure the “L” brackets into a “T” bracket. That idea helped me with an installation challenge of my own.

      Hey Mike, So glad we could offer some tips, especially the L/T bracket configuration. If you have the Bush Company 270 awning you will LOVE IT, one of the best mods we have done on the Paj, so easy to use and the confidence it will stand up to windy conditions (although I do use one guy rope ocassionally).
      Peace.

    I think you nailed it when you suggested the bracket instructions were less than adequate !
    I also started like you following the diagram. I even mounted the awning. In this position the weight of the awning alone bent the bracket 3 or 4 mm. I just can’t see that working in a howling wind.i dropped it down, like you, but had to Bodgie up more mounting solutions. I have an old style rack the brackets are totally not made for. I suppose most people have moved on in that regard ! Anyway I’ve got it working.
    A few quick thoughts for other people. - the bracket instructions are too brief.
    - I would be sceptical of the bracket performance fully extended
    -if you have an old style rack you will have to be creative !
    - don’t be sucked in by some retailers who ‘forget ‘ to tell you the awnings are no longer made with the reflective coating.
    Having said all that , they are very impressive and I would recommend them. Very high quality and strong. Very little flapping.
    Good video ! I enjoyed the’ learn as you go ‘ method. Well done .👍

    I'm going to be doing this exact setup tomorrow, so thanks for posting this as I too found their tutorial a bit vague in a few spots. Interesting you've gone with a T-bracket, I purchased a second set of brackets a month ago and I had to modify them into a T shape, and the set that came with my awning yesterday are like yours - pre drilled to do this. Cheers.

    • @JamesPorter
      @JamesPorter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@turtlehermit5951I installed on my own yesterday and went ok. Yes I modified the old ones and it works fine - I flipped the short part of the bracket and then used an angle grinder to trim down the protruding end of the long part and it fits well. Seems to be just as strong. I didn't feel like drilling extra holes but TBC have done that with their redesign so I'm sure that's fine too!
      It's such a good awning!

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey James, thank you. The brackets came with the set up and I when ‘L’ shape first without realising they can adjust to vary the height of the awning - always learning 😂- the ‘T’ works perfectly for the Pajero to get the perfect height over the swing rear door. This has to be the best mod every don’t you think. Peace ✌️

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@turtlehermit5951 I only received this this month so it looks like the brackets have been updated from those you talk about. I can say that the new brackets provide a massive amount of adjustment and if they are sold separately it might be worth investing in them. Anyway, enjoy your awning and keep tuned for my next mod. Peace ✌️

      Cheers mate, if you have one of these, or thinking about it I can honestly say it’s the best ‘major’ purchase I’ve made. I’ve had years of the roll out version which worked just fine, but the 270 is a gazillion times better and well worth the $.
      I’ve since change car and it now sits on my BT-50 canopy and is just as rad’.

    I was wondering how does this awning go in windy conditions as it seems be a large area without having any ropes or poles to help secure it.

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, sorry for delay, been v.busy with work ... the awning is very sturdy and we have had it open in some gusty weather (our friends had another brand which literally 'flipped' over on to their roof rack and snapped the arms - they should have used guy ropes, but I think they were trying to prove a point that a cheaper brand was just as good as a 270Xt, how wrong they were). We have used guy ropes on occasion, but that was purely for peace of mind as we swagged under it (wind could have picked up as we slept). We are 100% satisfied with this bloody excellent piece of kit.

    Can you let me know where you purchased the T-bolts? The rectangle ones I purchased from Rhino Rack are too "long" to place 2 next to each other and have them come through the bracket. I see that you have 2 bolts per slot though.

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I had the smaller ‘square’ ones left over from some other installation ( I can remember from what thought- sorry) , I also had the ‘rectangular’ ones and you are correct that two won’t fit side by side. If it’s not possible to buy the ‘square’ ones I can only suggest a bit of fun with an angle grinder on the rectangular ones. Sorry I couldn’t help 😞

    Thanks for this post- just got my awning and seems I have less instruction than you. But thanks to your video l'm working through the instal. Quick question - In this lower position , have you had any issue with the base of the bracket rubbing up against the paint work on the car at the mid section, when rack is all loaded. Seems like there is only a few mm clearance at best??

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      we are pretty sure you'll love the awning when it's on, one of our best purchases.
      A great question about the 'gap', and one that did cross our minds. On our Pajero, the bottom of the rear bracket is about 10mm from body, but so far never touched (even with a loaded rack). An option, which we used, is to position the brackets so that they project slightly over the left of the roof rack (think along the lines of it sticking out from the side of the car a little further) but only talking about 10 to 15mm, this gave us a little more clearance.
      We hope that helps, if confusing let me know and i'll send pics - peace - and enjoy

    Hi - just found your channel - as an NX owner love your car content - thanks! When you installed the awning and lowered the height of the T plate, did you know that it would clear the tailgate and be tall enough for you underneath or was that luck? I think i might get one - cheers.

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Brad, we love our NX that’s why we’ve spent so many $$$$ on her, 😂. The 270 is expensive but WELL WORTH IT, you will not regret it. Yes, we got the position wrong initially (too high) so that prompted us to adjust it correctly taking into account the tailgate. A bloody great piece of kit. Peace.

      Hi Brad, here’s the numbers : at the B pillar it’s approx 220mm to top of the zipped bag, measured from the ‘rubber gutter’ on the roof. We have a Rhino Pioneer roof rack on a ‘backbone’ system.

    Are the Rhino-Rack bolts that you used the same size as the bolts they sent with the awning? Or where they smaller?

    • @seagullsontherun
      @seagullsontherun  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      hey mate, thanks for the question. I'm not sure if the Rhino-Rack bolts were the same as the Bush Company ones (it was a while ago now and the awning is now on my BT-50 Fleet Trade rack). I had to watch the video and at about 4m30s mark you can see the bolts are tightened and are slightly popping up above the nuts, so, I'd say they were close to the same (I'm assuming your question relates to bolt length). Nut/bolt selection is probably dictated by what you are attaching it to, my Rhino-Rack used the slot bolts whereas my current Fleet-Trade rack I had to buy new nut/bolts. Not the best answer, sorry, but I hope it helps.
      peace, and thank you for watching.

      @seagullsontherun Thanks for responding, I appreciate it. I was actually referring to the girth if the bolt. Bushcompany sent huge bolts and I wasn't sure if the Rhino-Rack bolts I already have where going to be heavy duty enough. Have a great day

    • @seagullsontherun
