  • On Saturday the 10th of February 2024, The Bellarine Railway operated 3 trips between Drysdale and Lakers Siding with steam locomotive T251. This tour was the first steam-hauled service to Drysdale since 2020, which marks history on this day.
The train would travel from Queenscliff to Drysdale that morning, to begin the trips at Drysdale. South African locomotive 3620 would also join the train on the 3rd return journey to Drysdale.

G'day Jamie, another fantastic video. Its unique seeing a double header of steam locomotives, but steam locomotives from two different countries is even more interesting. T251 from south australia and 3620 from south africa, it make for an extraordinary dynamic duo. Its also good to see that regular tourist trains are returning to Drysdale station.
Nice photo with the two locos side by side and the crew celebrating a job well done.
    Good on you mate, 👍
    Keep your steam up.
    Kevig

Thank you, this was my first time seeing locomotive, 3620. It was also amazing seeing the double header, when it ran back to Drysdale. Thank you for your support, towards my channel and keeping my channel going. Have a nice day!

I should go see this. Last time I saw steam trains operating here was in 2018. I actually haven’t seen T251 before.

I definitely recommend going there, it was my first proper chase on that branch, and it was a very fun day out.
      Thanks for your comment.

I remember Mr. Drysdale from "The Beverly Hillbillies." Good comic actor.

I was on the Q train to and from Drysdale pulled by a South African Steam engine in 2022

It’s strange there’s no other locomotive/ diesel engine on the back. 🤔

In the arrival of the double header, if you saw someone down the platform with a tripod, that would be me. Also i was unable to catch the departure, since I was waking the whole trail because Google Maps told the the rail trail was an operating railway. My lungs started to ache halfway through, and I eventually caught a bus at a cross intersection. I went past the railway and actually had to stop for food and drinks. Then I walked all the way to Drysdale station.

G'day Mates!! Kind regards from Bs As Argentina... Min 3.30 I would like to know the name in English of the person that couple and uncouple locos and carriages, as is shown in the video using buffers and chain hook, something very common here in my country. Here former railway worker just like my father who did that job for years!! All the best Mates in Australia!! Un abrazo, Rodolfo

Hello! I'm not quite sure what you mean, maybe give me some more description on what you're asking?

Rodolfo, I believe that the person who couples and uncouples locos and carriages is called a shunter. See railacademy.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/384208/ICI1855-Rail-Academy-Career-Profile-Job-Title_Shun_V17_FA_WEB.pdf

It looks like uninteresting scenery? Is it worth visiting?

Hey mate, every person has a different opinion on railways and heritage groups. In my opinion the scenery was ok, and the steam train suited it very nicely. If you would prefer having photos of a steam locomotive on the peninsula, yes, it is. But if you prefer city background maybe this type of railway isn't for you. Thanks for your comment.

I didn’t realise this was the first service back since 2020, hasn’t the Q train been running up that way with steam since 2021 and the blues train since 2023?

Beautiful Australian scenery mate. A bit dry but it's the end of summer.
