Seeing this crossover of two totally juxtaposed fandoms of mine that I honestly never thought would meet (Yellow Magic Orchestra and The Beach Boys) is actually mind blowing. Yes, I know VDP has worked with Hosono but seeing really is believing... AND this is one of my favourites from an album I surely thought was to obscure to be covered 🤯
six years and nobody got it right... VDP didn't write one song on _Discover America,_ but not all were public domain. This one in particular is credited to Roaring Lion as "The Lion" and features a quote from "I Ain't Got Nobody", itself written by Roger Graham (lyrics) and Spencer Williams (music).
@@AlexDeLarge1 They're written by Calypso artists in the first half of the 20th century. They're public domain, but don't say it like we don't know who wrote it. This was written by Roaring Lion. The question at hand is not the legal status of the music...the question at hand is who wrote it!
Take the bow, Van Dyke. Too painfully modest an exit, o exalted one.

Always loved this song, but this arrangement is extra special!
There ain't nobody like him. So glad I got to see him 24 years ago.
What a treasure! Thanks for posting this.
insane crossover. love it
Harry said "great but short" and then said that it was a gorgeous day at the end.
I showed Morton Downey, Jr. the lyrics that mention his dad's name. For some reason Van chops out a line from the original version.
Magnificent! 🎶🎺🎻🎷🎶
awesome!
あまりにも良すぎる

All of the songs on Discover America are public domain, actually.

Cool, two of my favorite americana musicians from two opposite sides of the world. And how about Ryuichi Sakamoto's mustache?
Fantasticness on ice!

Missing the right credits again; this song isnot by Van Dyke but by Roaring Lion
バックバンド含め 何ですか この豪華な出来事は
