Whatever the case Bowlin is right, before Alex all the prior drummers were all over the place with tempo's, they probably didnt like using a click because they sucked at playing to one, but they also sucked at keeping time/tempo without one, seems Alex doesn't have an issue with one so they can finally play like the pace of the record.

I'm such a sweaty nerd for Shogun that I definitely could tell the difference. He does play some parts different than the album, not that that's a bad thing.

tivus while that is true, trivium played like 3x faster back then and without a clicker. They are much tighter now but were definitely a better live experience then.
Matt came out with a comment on twitch saying that alex was the drummer that they have been able to stay on beat with because apparently he just blasts a metronome in his ears so the rest of the band is playing to him and he can always be on beat lol they had issues with the other drummers rushing ahead or falling behind the rhythm.
Sometimes I realize, that there are (actually very good) drummers out there, with all their special closing, gloves, headband, special shoes, shaved legs and so on and in their drum DVDs they explain us, how that improves their play. And then, their is this guy. He pretty much looks like, that he wears whatever is on top in his wardrobe, goes to work and does his fucking job! I love it!
Alex is the best thing to ever happen to Trivium. I don't think he's going anywhere. Hope you guys got some footage of Daniel Erlandsson on this tour as well!!

Not sure if it's just me, but when you can see his feet while he's doing double bass it looks like he's playing with his heel much higher on his left foot
@@andreimatheus9306 Triggers do allow you to cheat in certain situations, though---you could program the trigger brain to produce the same sound no matter how hard you are hitting. And theoretically you could have the kick drum beaters like 1 inch from the head, but get the same sound. Neither of which seems to apply here---his beaters are pretty far from the head and he's hitting pretty hard. But yeah, triggers do you no favors if your timing is off.

Metallica has "Live Shit: Binge & Purge", Iron Maiden has "Live After Death", AC/DC has "Live at Donnington", Rammstein has "Volkerball"... Slipknot, Gojira, Mastodon, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Machine Head.... What do we have from Trivium? A 5 songs DVD for the Ascendancy special edition and another mini DVD for In Waves with no crowd, that feels more like a rehearsal than an actual concert. Don't get me wrong, I have them and love them both. But I want something different, something that makes me feel like I'm in an actual concert.
I know I'm not telling anyone anything they don't know, but it's unbelievably hard to that well let alone do it that well. Huge admiration for the really good drummers out there.

Alex is a solid player. And his kit sounds great! Saw him many years ago in Cleveland playing with Decrepit Birth. Those loose hi hats would drive me crazy though. haha
