When it Comes to Beer - How Old is Too Old?

  • Spring has sprung in Michigan, and that means it's Oberon day again. While March 20th 2023 was approaching, I discovered a couple 6 packs of 14 year old Oberon in my basement. With the release of Bell's Oberon for 2023, I thought it would be fun to see how a 14 year old Oberon would stack up against the freshest release. I didn't die, so it must not be that bad, right? You'll be surprised by what it looks like though. This is why you should drink beer as fresh as possible.

Bravely going where no beer aficionado would probably go. Pushing the envelope for sure LOL. If you had told me twenty years ago I would be aging beers, I would have laughed at you. Let's face it. It's an experiment. Sometimes its golden and sometimes it's a drain pour. I will continue to see what the boundaries are. CHEERS !!!

I probably wouldn’t drink something that old with that low of an abv but fantastic video

    Definitely a 2010 batch.

So what's the oldest beer you're hanging on to? Does there come a point that you're holding onto it more for nostalgia reasons or because you will eventually drink it?

I have a motorhead 5percent pale ale from 2016 I don't think I'm gonna drink it, if it was 10percent I'd risk it

This "taste" reminds me of the KBS 2007 I had when Tom Brady won the SB with Tampa....It was gritty, thin, watered down Guinness. Just overall gross - Great video !

Haha, it wasn’t all that bad, but it turned into a really crummy home brew that your friend made and was dying to get your feedback on. I guess the overall flavor of it was “wort”, which would be crazy to try and then re-ferment again. Thanks for watching!

That was a fun video. I like the age comparisons. That didn’t look even remotely tasty and I don’t think I would want to try it 😵.

We were going to see if we could get people at Oberon day to try the old one, but we didn't have anywhere to set up, and it got crazy pretty quick. I'm sure eventually we may have gotten some takers.
