  • Join me as I finally make it to Jerusalem! Walking through the historical streets of Jerusalem was very surreal.
    The narrow streets are very hard to navigate but I made my way to Damascus gate at the muslim quarter and onwards to the wailing wall and finally through the street where Jesus carried his cross. JOIN ME!

    The partition that you saw at the Western Wall was to divide men & women. It has nothing to do with Muslims. People of all faiths can visit the Wall (Kotel). You're not required to cover your head but you should. The Al Aqsa Mosque has the black dome. The Temple Mount (Haram Al Sharif or Noble Sanctuary) has the gold dome.

      The mosque with the Black Dome, is Al-Qibli, the Dome of the Rock has the golden Dome. The entire complex is known as Al-Aqsa and it has 9 mosques. Hence the reason why people salaah (pray) on the entire complex (the mataaf) and their prayers are accepted as though it was done inside a mosque. The entire complex is a mosque.

    You're taking me back to a memorable tour in 2019! Aqsa was awesome! Everything I expected and more. You've walked in the footsteps of the prophets. The Dome of the Rock was where Muhammed SAW led the other prophrts in prayer. The Qibli mosques athaan still resonates in my ears - such sincerity! Yes, we were also checked by IOF at the entrance of the AL-Aqsa compound.
    The same Muslim family has been the custodians of the keys to the Holy church of Sepulcre for more than a 1000 years. I wanted to meet them and discovered the following day that I had actually chatted to the gentleman the day prior - he sits at the door of the church.

    18:39, they also say Jesus of Nazareth was born in Bethlehem, wait, why do you call him "of Nazareth" if he wasn't born in Nazareth? According to the scholar Bart Ehrman, he was born in Nazareth because his parents were from Nazareth and there was no written record of Herodes performing a census at that time which supposedly motivated Joseph and Mary to flee Nazareth and give birth in a barn in Bethlehem.

    • @CallumAbroad

      Very fair point, I should have mentioned. It was 25 shekels … so around $6 (with the cola)

    • @abcxyz8787
      @abcxyz8787 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the city center , outside the old city, you can find falafel for 15-19 shekels in different falafel joints on Ben Yehuda street for example. But it can also go over 20 shekels. I personally don't and won't pay 20 shekels or more for falafel cause it's a rip off. It also depends whether the falafel comes in a pita bread or "laffa" (larger sort of pita bread) or if they serve it in a plate. In regular pita bread it's the cheapest.

    • @jewlicious
      @jewlicious 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the Muslim Quarter, there are maybe two places that sell a falafel sandwich which is around 13 shekels. Most of the places sell you hummus with a side of falafel balls and some vegetables (onions, peppers, tomatoes, pickles) for 25 shekels. Locals don't make sandwiches out of this - they scoop the hummus (which is the star of the show) with some pita and then take a bite of the sides. Falafel is considered a side. Best in my opinion is Abu Ahmed across from the Austrian Hospice near Damascus Gate. The hummus in the Muslim Quarter is way better than anything in the city center.

    The Jewish people are *indigenous* to Judea - Land of Israel. 🕎🙌
    After over 2 millennia of forced exile, persecution, and genocide, the *(re)establishment* of *Jewish sovereignty* in our *ancestral homeland* is a remarkable story of *national liberation.* Jewish claims to the land are far more than biblical accounts. Our *religion, language, culture, holidays, rituals, liturgy, history,* and even the words Jew and Jewish are all inseparable from *historical Judea* and our collective longing to *return to the Land of Israel.*
    The land of Israel is where Jews became *a people* and the *oldest monotheistic faith.* It is where Jews *achieved sovereignty* before losing it and regaining it several times until much of the *indigenous Jewish population* was either killed or forced into exile following the *Roman Empire’s* brutal suppression of the heroic *Jewish revolt* in the second century of the Common Era. Though the Romans subsequently *renamed the land* Syria Palaestina, the Jewish people *never left* our homeland physically or spiritually. *Archaeological evidence* of Jewish life can be found in more than *30,000 sites* in Israel with antiquities dating back centuries. Even when we were massacred and persecuted by Christian Crusaders, Arab and Ottoman *invaders,* the British-led Jordanian Arab Legion, or more recently Hamas suicide bombers and rockets, our attachment *never* wavered.
    It is in this same land where Jews miraculously *revitalized* the Hebrew language, *rebuilt* the institutions necessary for independence, *re-engaged* in rituals that are uniquely observed in the land of Israel, *redeveloped* the land and the economy so that by several magnitudes the Jewish and non-Jewish populations grew, and offered refuge not just to the remnant which survived the Holocaust, but also millions of Jews fleeing persecution from the Muslim Middle East, Ethiopia, and the former Soviet Union. Today, Israel is a *rich tapestry of diverse citizens,* including over half of Jewish Israelis who identify as Jews of color and 20% of whom are Arab citizens.
    *Peace Not Hate!* 🇮🇱💙

      The term Palestine is an *European colonial* add on from the *Romans* that identifies a people the Philistines from ancient Greece *NOT* a people from the *Arabian Peninsula.* The Arabs *rejected* the term Palestinian until 1967.
      *"There is no such country as Palestine. 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented. There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria. 'Palestine' is alien to us. It is the Zionists who introduced it".*
      - Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, Syrian Arab leader to British Peel Commission, 1937.
      *"There is no such thing as Palestine in history, absolutely not".*
      - Professor Philip Hitti, Arab historian, 1946.
      *"It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but Southern Syria".*
      - Representant of Saudi Arabia at the United Nations, 1956.
      And after the *Six-Day War* the Arabs declared:
      *"There are no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. We are all part of one nation. It is only for political reasons that we carefully underline our Palestinian identity... yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity serves only tactical purposes. The founding of a Palestinian state is a new tool in the continuing battle against Israel".*

      Except you got it backwards. Jerusalem IS open to all. However, until 1967, while it was in the hands of the Jordanians, it was far from open - Jews were banned from their most holy sites.
      Not to mention the fact that the Jordanians never handed the city over to the Palestinians, but nobody dared call it an occupation to the face of King Hussein.

    • @happydillpickle
      @happydillpickle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not occupied. Israel has the right to exist, same as any other country. The Ottoman Empire was divided into nation states and that's led to so much fighting and bloodshed it's unreal. The borders were drawn irresponsibly. Look at what happened between Iran and Iraq. What about the Kurdish people? It's such a mess. Look at the mess in Lebanon, with Hezbollah trying to take over and making a mess of everyday people's lives. Look at the mess in Syria: it seems nearly every country in the world has got involved. The West Bank used to be annexed to Jordan and I don't think people were screaming about an occupation back then? On the contrary, it was a popular holiday destination. If people just accepted Israel and stopped being so antisemitic, maybe we would have a chance at peace? Jews aren't allowed to pray at the Al Aqsa compound. Why not? Surely it should be free for all to pray there? Crazy, crazy situation. I wonder if humans will ever learn true kindness and compassion for each other?

      According to the World Health Organization, obesity affects 26.8% of the Palestinian population (23.3% males, 30.8% females). This is mostly due to decreased physical activity and greater than necessary food consumption, particularly with an increase in energy coming from fat. Two other factors are smoking and urbanization. In addition, "leisure-time physical activity is not a common concept in the Palestinian context, especially for rural women, where lack of sex-segregated facilities and cultural norms are prohibitive factors." Women in urban areas face similar cultural restrictions.
      However, a study of Gazan mothers between the ages of 18-50, published in 2014, concluded the obesity rates ranged between 57%-67.5% depending on where they lived. This study reflected another study published in 2009 (referenced therein) that determined the obesity rate of Palestinian men at 58.7% and Palestinian women at 71.3%.[2]
