Launched to the world in 1961 at the Geneva motor show, the car became an instant icon. The legendary story of another car being driven though the night from the factory in Coventry to the show in Geneva is part of the legend of the E-type. The car was the next step of innovation from Jaguar after their successful D type. It was quick, handled well and brought forward racing parts from the track to the road cars. With the car being one of the most complete cars of the generation, no wonder the list of owners that had one were heads of industry, celebrities and royalty. Steve McQueen, Tony Curtis, James Coburn and Grace Kelly all owned an E-Type. The series one is the most desirable one today with a 3.8 litre straight 6 and the original iconic looks that made it one of the most beautiful cars in the world.
The car we have at Kaaimans is possible one of the finest original examples of a series 1 Jaguar E-Type. Delivered to the first owner in March 1963 through Henlys Ltd in London, it is finished in British Racing Green with Black Leather interior and a black mohair soft top, It also comes with a hardtop. The gearbox has been upgraded to the 4 Speed all-synchromesh System to improve its ride. The History file is immense with copies of old invoices, parts supplied, old MOT Certificates (Two lever Arch Files).
