    John Kahn deserves way more love. He GOT Jerry's BOUNCE. Yeah yeah yeah, drugs...whatever. these two hooked up musically and it's undeniable.

    • @FloridaDave_
      @FloridaDave_ ปีที่แล้ว +6

      John Kahn was a great bass player, I know he gets the blame for the drugs, but Jerry would have gotten them with or without him...

      John Kahn’s Bass Playing was more of Straight Bass Lines and Melody of a Song which allowed Jerry to noodle, solo above, below and along with the Melody so well .. Phils style of Bass Playing is almost as if he’s playing guitar as Phil moved up and down the Melody as well as Jerry did in the old days which made both Phil/Jerry play off each other …
      John K was a setter of Melody along with the Drums to establish the core rhythm of a Song ..
      I believe sone of JG’s best playing was when he was with JK and especially in that ‘74-‘80 Stretch with 4 Piece Band Lineups

    I keep coming back to this video. I can't get enough! Young Jerry, the way he pronounces "prayers", the way he rocks back and forth at the end of the monster solo and the strength of the keyboardists neck. Solid version of this timeless song. Thank you for sharing!

    Been a Deadhead since ‘75. I know this is a Peter Rowan song, but, it may be my favorite Garcia tune. 7/9/77, Jerry and the band is just levitating. You can see this huge aura around Jerry’s head. I’m sorry. Totally sober right now. It’s there every time I see the video.

      John Kahn was absolutely perfect for that band and Jerry knew it. JGB was pure Jerry of course and my opinion but that's why they were often more desirable than the Dead.

    Maybe he played freest with the JGB. Stunning solo! Btw I saw 85 yo Peter Rowan, who wrote the song, play it slow and sweet solo acoustic on stage this summer (2023). A great song of many possible tempos moods and feelings
