I first heard this song on KFAT driving up Hwy 1. It was the Old and In the Way version, with Peter, Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clemens, David Grisman and John Kahn. What a moment! I had to pull over because such virtuosity demanded my rapt attention! I have to say I think it was Vassar Clement’s finest moment. The whole band was smokin’. I love this version, too, because it’s such a sweet love song. Whenever I’m feeling a little off, I just cue up this song and all is right with the world.
Among my top 5 bluegrass songs of all time. I saw Peter perform solo in a tiny pub in Shreveport 30 years ago and these are the words he sang...memorized on the spot...I've used them ever since. A beautiful singer and songwriter.

i live in maine, and he was at thomas pt. tony was supposed to be there but he wasnt ???? i was in the 6th row center stage and for an hour he sang every song i shouted out, gal dang but it dont get much better than that. never for get it. i love peter rowan and this song for sure.
peter rowan is excellent/ i saw him many times at suannee. he is always there in the crowd mixing with everyone else. one year i was looking at a program guide. my picture was in it . i discovered that i had heard him many years before at valley forge with seatrain. it blew my mind because i enjoyed seatrain big time especially him doing the song of job
I’m pretty sure thats Kyle Tuttle on banjo. I sang this song with him in my kitchen in 2003 and ten years later he’s onstage with the man! You go Kyle! Cumming Georgia representing!

I'm amazed at how youthful his voice is, in tone and in spirit.
Just saw him at the Moab Folk Festival in November, and the voice is still strong. Great song, and Peter Rowan is a national treasure.
Wonderful example of that unique genre called Tex Mex.. I had the honor of buying him a beer in a Mexican restaurant in Moline,IL in 1983!
I use to live next to Peter in Stinson Beach, great memories. His brother's are equally amazing, salt of the earth.
Saw Peter and the band play in Narooma nsw Australia a few years ago ,I was blown away
So glad I got see Peter Rowan 6 years ago and few times since, I could listen to him sing all night
