    T square became one of my favorite tools when doing my basement. I had to carry over 80 sheets of 8' 5/8 down an L staircase completely alone. It certainly wasn't easy but some tips I have. They make these small handles you can buy that the edge drywall slots onto to. It only costs like $15 but gave me almost a foot of extension and saved my fingers. I would do one sheet at a time and do maybe 5 sheets a day while I was still working on insulation/wiring. Lift with your legs, keep back straight. It's a lot of work and intimidating, but it's do-able!
    A bonus t-square tip: if you are hanging vertically or cannot see the stud location, take a couple seconds and mark out stud locations on your drywall using the t-square!

    Jeff, in Indiana, USA, we can get 1/2" drywall (white board) in 8', 9', 10' 12', 14', and 16' lengths. Fire rated 5/8" in lengths of 8', 9', 10', 12', and 14'. Not to mention the 2 types of Dense glass in 1/2" and 5/8" in 8' and 10' lengths. Blue board is special order from the East coast used for plaster. We do have the green board still, not used in commercial very often, but also in the same lengths up to 12', I believe.

    I’m often called on jobsites to bore holes between bathroom stalls at truckstops. Which I do for free because I support our hard-working truckers. I’m often tasked with decorating these with the faces of the likes of Kevin Bacon, Burt Reynolds, or whoever is the rage that week. But when I line up the hole to where the mouth is on the image, it never looks quite right. I’m thinking I need to either animate the face so the eyes move or fasten a strap or harness around the other end of the stall so it pulls you so far into the stall you can’t notice it. But there’s all these truck stop building code violations that will sure attract an already suspicious and curious building inspector. And if you’ve met these inspectors you’re bound to end up in some nearby dungeon swinging on some ropes or crucified and shamed in the parking lot of a Shell station. So why do your videos fail to cover this kind of stuff? Real things - not this something something build with the right power tool on the right setting, etc. or whatever it is. Or saw a hole right through your neighbors living room wall and stick your whole head in there, rufie yourself, call the cops before they do, and when the cops come you’ll look like the victim of whatever it was they tried to do to you - now that’s a TH-cam video.

    I would never carry the drywall as shown as the rear person with your arm around the end of the drywall. If the front person runs into a wall or header, you're going to dislocate your arm. Two people, same side, same hands on bottom, person on front puts opposite hand on front to control balance. Person on back could put their other hand on top to help balance if windy or narrow doorway or hallway.......

    This is a pretty good video for the average homeowner. If you want to make a proper video about how to hang drywall, go find a contractor and ask if you could video his crew hanging for a day and do a voice over. There is a fair amount of technique that could be taught by pro hangers you don't cover.

    A lot of people buy and hang their drywall themselves and contract out the mudding, paper, sanding. I’ve heard the price of contracting out the entire process is comparable due to their bulk costs on drywall. Any comments?

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY

Buddy came over, took one look, and congratulated me on saving $12 for a single sheet by creating $150 worth of taping, mudding, and sanding effort. We are building a concrete foundation home. 3 sides of which are concrete with a 2x6 studded wall walkout. I intend to build the walls in front of the concrete this way. Please advise. I will start by putting a 1-inch thick foam board next to the foundation concrete. My 2"x4" wall will go against the foam board. I will install R-13 face fiberglass insulation into the studded walls and complete the wall envelope with drywall. Do I have this wall envelope correct?

    • @JL10007406
      @JL10007406 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on your wall structure. Some walls are designed to allow vapor in the wall cavity transfer into the interior. What you dont want is a sandwich of air between two vapor barriers. That moisture has nowhere to go.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That all depends on where you live . different weather patterns have different recommendations and different building code.

  • @ianb6334

    Hi Jeff, great video. Is that moisture barrier required if you have R-10 Rigid foam on the concrete? I'm in the Ottawa area and was reading having both rigid foam and vapour barrier can trap moisture between.

    • @BaddDukk
      @BaddDukk ปีที่แล้ว

      He has a good video about basement subfloors. Your rigid foam should have grooves that allow any vapour to move out to the edges where it should escape up the wall.

    Out of interest, when plastering why is the whole wall not covered just the joints in North America

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      less material equals less time and a more perfect surface.

    • @xavytex
      @xavytex ปีที่แล้ว

      Because 99% of people wouldn’t want to pay for veneer plaster. People keep their house for 8 years on average. Hence they don’t want to invest much. At your place, you can do whatever you want. If you know the buyer won’t pay you extra because you have veneer plaster, and will only ask “what’s the square footage” and “is this wall load bearing”, then you’ll have standard drywall for as cheap as you can get it like everybody else in the city. Cheer !

      I moved to Canada from England and on the second day when I pulled the charger cable out of my phone the plug went flying out of socket and dented the wall. I was pretty shocked. Firstly, I could not believe how flimsy the socket was that it was barely holding the charger. Secondly, I couldnt figure out why drywall got dented. Well, after getting a job in construction I realized that in North America they dont plaster the walls like they do in Europe. They just fill the joints and the drywall gets painted which means its soft as hell!

    • @DaruDhillon
      @DaruDhillon ปีที่แล้ว

      Cost. Covering the entire surface results in substantially higher labor costs. It also requires a high level of craftsmanship that is usually only used in end homes. It will be beyond most people’s budget. The results are ultra smooth near perfect as they use laser levels to ensure a straight finish.
