- The hills of western North Carolina are a perfect place for Scottish Highland Cattle-and apparently, so is the internet! Meet the adorable cows of Happy Hens & Highlands Farm and the couple who harnessed social media to try a new kind of farming that has created a viral cuteness around the world in our all new My Home, NC story.
“I don’t think we will ever be rich but I am happy and so is Emily” - wish this is taught in school, money can’t buy happiness.

I didn't have pet dogs or cats when I was younger, I had my pet cow Barney, who was a Scottish highlander.
They seem so docile and sweet! We loved visiting with them. Thanks for sharing!
i hope that cow wasn't sent to slaughter. No pets should be sent to slaughter

I love how they took such s love for their cows that they decided not to do beef with the cows . Meaning they don't send their cows off to the Feed lot and slaughterhouse. So awesome . My favorite farmers right here .

Highland cows are really beautiful and sort of scary. They have those horns and all that fur. But, they are so gentle and cuddly.

I traveled all the way to Inverness Scotland to photograph and paint these amazing creatures. I love them so much. I paint them all the time. I so envy your life with these “coos”.

YES YES YES !! I live in NC piedmont and would HAPPILY drive - and pay - to come visit y’all and get taught about the shaggy beautiful animals and hang out in the pasture.
I first saw these in Scotland in 1992. Thought they were beautiful 🤩 and still do. 👍
A neighbour has a gaggle of these up the highway from me. Very friendly, have mastered the knack of bumming for treats from the horses (they know I always have a stash of apples and carrots). They raise them to be pets on hobby farms.
These have always been very beautiful animals; so calm and docile!! So Majestic!! Loving animals!!
I love people who love their animals and treat them well. You are lucky to have them, and them to have you.

I got my starting fold of highlands from them and they were amazingly helpful and very knowledgeable. We raise ours in middle Georgia and will be buying more from them.
Life must be pretty good that all you have to do all day is watch the cows graze 🥰.
Love the variety of color you have! We have had the similar problem of waking up to all the cattle gone! Glad they stay together and just went off to hang out in the woods.

Glad I found your channel. Highland Cows are such neat animals. A good friend of mine owns 3 Highlands, a Mother and her 2 offspring. I love feeding them cookies and donuts.

I have direct bloodlines back to Yancey County,nc in the 1700's. I have jones ancestors buried at snow creek area up by nc/ va border. Lots of my scotch/ irish ancestors settled up in hillsides of western nc before migrating across the western nc blue ridge hills settling in northeast Tennessee by Johnson city and jonesborough areas by the 1770 to 1780's.
Love the highland breed of cows. Wouldn't mind buying a cow or two from you all when I move back to hawkins county,tn to look after my elderly dad. One of my best friends growing up back there he owns a farm.

Been watching ranching and farming videos for the past few months and have taken such a appreciation and like for cows. They are so gentle and curious and have their personalities. I would love to have a farm full of them . I would sit out and just watch them graze and love ever minute of it

I was Horrified!
I knew farmers raised animals for food. Men in my family hunted in order to feed their families.
But eating an animal you named seemed 🤔 so horrible to me!
In my mind, if you developed a relationship and named an animal, it becomes a member of the family!
I understand y'all not choosing to raise those beautiful Highland cattle to give them a good home, and selling only to hobby farmers.
I refused to eat Bessie.
I am an omnivore, no way could I be vegetarian or vegan..😊

Understand they would e hard 2 slaughter because they r like part of the family. There meat so l am informed by reliable sources is excellent.
I dont have a farm which is disappointing.
Last year l found another breed that l hadn't heard or seen b4. A all white Cattle from Italy. Think it was Tuscany or Piedmont region. And the meat has next 2 know fat. Also a gr8 look'in beast. Enjoy ur Wooly Rugs on 4 legs. 👌👍

This is beautiful ! I wish I had my life to do over again so I could be. Farmer and own cattle, geese, sheep, goats! So many animals. U can never be to attached! They are life and they are to be living and loved!
I love these cows!!! Cows cutness made me become vegetarian at a young age. It was probally the best choice I ever made. I would really recommend it!!

@@otto4255 Please look up THE GAME CHANGERS. the so-called "animal protein" comes with saturated fat and cholesterol - the best diet for human species isn't what you think it is, otherwise heart disease wouldn't be the #1 killer today.
That’s the biggest reason I’m going vegan even more than my health I saw a calf get slapped after wanting its mother and right there I started balling and knew I couldn’t contribute to a culture that allows this to happen it didn’t feel right .

Hes right about them being hard to keep in! I had some growing up in Missouri, they were always getting out. But we were known as the people with the funny looking cows.

This is so inspiring! My significant other and I are having a similar issue looking for a direction in life. We've been thinking about getting a farm for a long time now and finally decided to do it! I like mostly all breeds of cows. However these Highlands are so awesome. I would love to have some Highland and Jersey cows. And the Jerseys not for the milk but for how cute they are , especially as calfs .As calves the Jersey cows look like deer sometimes
