I respect "Night" and I LOVE "Dawn" but damn, there's just something that I love about "Day" that's missing in the first two films. I've always said, Day of the Dead is actually my favorite zombie flick, even if Dawn of the Dead has more cultural impact.

    • @TheSteampunkkid00079
      @TheSteampunkkid00079 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

for me Dawn had the more cultural impact but Day had always had a more personal impact, how we as individuals would break down within the collapse of society, really makes you think that we are just human and wonder how long we could actually last given the circumstances...

    • @Dalton_Boardman2000

I love the intensifying cabin fever as the group's dysfunctions build up. Every time I watch it I'm thinking "Holy shit Sarah, get the fuck outta there!" As more and more red flags make themselves apparent. Her boyfriend is unstable, the doctor is stealing bodies, Rhodes is trigger happy, and on top of it all they have a small zombie horde behind a homemade fence inside and a big horde behind a chain link fence outside. Everyone is going crazy and it's inevitable it'll all fall apart. My favorite thing is the well written dialogue and how it showcases the growing hostility between the survivors. It's clear most of these characters are here just barely for posterity sake, and the faith of that posterity is running out.

I worship George A. Romero, but as much as I love “Dawn of the Dead” (trust me, it is one of the best - if not THE best - zombie movies ever made) and as terrifying as the original “Night of the Living Dead” classic is, I think “Day of the Dead” is my personal favorite, taking into consideration that it is the one I watched the most and also has the best script. As much as we all adore some action-oriented zombie flick, I think it is so refreshing to watch a more cerebral horror movie, with great dialogue and characters. I think that that was the main reason why this movie flopped at the box office, it was just too intelectual for the regular audiences that were looking for some cheap scares and nothing more. The trailers and advertising for “Day” were so misleading, and, with such a dark tone, it could not compete with more “entertaining” zombie movies of the time like “The Return of the Living Dead” and “Re-Animator” (both fantastic in their own respective ways). And by the way, Bub rules !

      The darkest day of horror.
I also am very interested to see what George really had for Day, the full horror he wanted to create. It was originally gonna be nearly 3 hours long, just like Dawn was with the Cannes Cut.
I hope one day they could release a novel for Day, the full original script. Not sure if it’s scrapped but yeah.

The 1978 Dawn of the dead is my all-time favorite Zombie Film, But this one is close to that (Night of the living dead 1968 is good too, but I like those two more). This has a Fantastic Cast, Score, Make-up, and Yes, even the Acting and Characters. I like the Joe Pilato in the minor role in dawn of the dead, but Captain Rhodes is my all-time favorite performance by Joe Pilato (R.I.P). So Two of my favorite Zombie Movies he did.

This theme gave it a real sense of the apocalypse ,and the danger more so than the walking dead ever or has done . You want a real zombie film experience day of the Dead is it . I can tell instantly the scope George Romero really intended for the film. This was meant to be the Ben Hur of zombie films

Watched this movie for the first time on HBO back in '88. Of course I was only five at the time and remembered only bits and pieces of it. 2003 rolls along and I must've rewatched my friends DVD of it at least 30 times in two weeks. Then of course I recently binged Stranger Things and was kind of surprised to see it as such a big hit in the movie theater(it didn't too well when I watched the DVD commentary on the release numbers). Any who, for someone who enjoys both TWD and now the Stranger Things universe, one can never go wrong with the Romero classics.
On that note, it's nice that Greg Nicotero(Pvt Johnson) is now a mainstay in TWD production department. However, with the final season coming up, it would've been cool if Joe Pilato were still alive. Joe Pilato would've made a great CRM "Chief of Staff/four star general", while Lori Cardille would've been perfect as the leader of The Commonwealth. A larger scale version of their respective screen antagonism towards each other.

Night of the living dead is my all time favorite horror movie (black and white/colored,i dont care,i love it) and dawn is one of my favorite horror sequels ever (2004 remake was sick as well) something about day of the dead was.... haunting, and scarier than the other two...
helps that the gore and blood was some of the sickest stuff i'd seen in a dead series up to that point (going from colorful, neon like blood in dawn, to realistic, muted red blood and pink/salmon gore and practical effects) was eye opening to me. also, that scene where the soldier gets his throat stretched, and his vocal cords get severed, going from a low pitch,to a higher one always freaked me the hell out

I agree. I think both the Night of the Living Dead (the one that Tom Savini directed) and the Zack Synder Dawn of the Dead remake are both actually pretty good. However the Day of the Dead remake was total garbage imo. Anyway, yeah the original "Day" rocks!

I didn't like the Dawn remake. Fast zombies aside, the human characters were unlikable as hell. I liked the Black Cop, The Ass-hole security guard, the trucker lady, and the gun shop owner. That's it. Shouldn't be rooting for the zombies in a zombie film.

My Zombie movie night is always the same:
I start with the 1990's remake of Night of the Living Dead (I think it's better than the original), then I put in 1978's Dawn of the Dead (I prefer the Argento cut), after that one I proceed to 1979's Zombie Flesh Eaters, and I finish my night with this 1985's Day of the Dead😁

I feel this score conveys both dread and escapism. When they leave for the helicopter and end up on the Island, it just makes you feel that, "what if I could just escape to a tropical island" thought. It has a wish fulfillment aspect much like Dawn does with the mall in a "what would you do" scenario, albeit more subtle.
It also has a great dark portion that goes well with the lumbering zombies, especially that sting in the beginning with the newspaper.
