10 Fascinating Jobs That Keep New York City Running I Business Insider Marathon
Great video. I always learn a lot without having to travel to places where I wouldn't be allowed to anyway. Love this channel.
Thanks for watching!
Why you aren’t to travel there?
@@Ceramic_discprobably from NK Afghanistan or Iran
I think you would be let into most of the places in New York. Worse people than you have been.
@@HoolyDooly-si2zz That’s how they do it. Some of them go up to the elbows in the sour Kraut.
But it must be legal, or they would have shut it down by now.
They do wash their hands a lot.
I hope the bagel workers are paid very well. Tough and skilled work. The key to his business success.
It's an unskilled job. Apes can mix dough. Experience and consistency can earn a wage increase for sure, but these aren't architects or doctors.
💯💯💯
They aren't. HE treats them like crap. Alot of people say that
There’s nothing better than a good fresh baked bagel! Yum! My personal favorites are the sesame & the everything bagel ! Hats off to the bagel maker and all of the employees!
most likely $2 more than minimum wage, our people always get the whip
I have another Occupation that keeps NYC alive . The one I did for 15 years , ELEVATOR MECHANIC!!
Those buildings are tall if you'll notice . 😂
I salute you, unsung hero 🫡
@@domfazool8326 Thank you . But it gets better . I became the Elevator Mechanic at the UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT for the next 5 years , then became A Zamboni Driver in Burlington VT . Another beautiful job .
@@Richard-od7ydmy uncle does elevators in Austria.
Hey, which was more lucrative?
Thanks for sharing!
@@B.Mega.D Elevator Mechanic for sure .
But you make everyone smile on a Zamboni so it's a toss up 🤔🙂
Shout out to the 9/11 memorial workers. They are fascinating, and take pride in their work. Thank you all for keeping the monuments pristine.
The guy from Utopia Bagels is _Gold!_ I've watched him in videos several times 'cus he's a wonderful character. Sorry for the cliche, but I ❤️️ New YorkERS. Their straight forwardness is refreshing
Donuts also have a glory hole in the middle but taste much better
The way Scott tells his story and sees his bagels. Amazing!
NY bagels are heavenly...as a side note, bagels were always affordable so it was easy to grab a dozen, plus a tub of butter and bring breakfast wherever you were going: work, bible study, business mtng, etc.
Donuts have also a glory hole in the middle but taste much better
Donuts also have a glory hole in the middle but taste much better
You can get them anywhere. It's unfortunate the NY government is making it harder for small businesses like this to stay open.
They're a dime a dozen*.
*A baker's, that is.
I can tell, from just watching this man's passion that his must truly be the best bagels in the world.

Come on, grow up.
I tip my hat to the bagel rollers. You guys are troopers❤❤
It’s so upsetting that people would throw garbage in the 9/11 memorial and carve things into it is just heartbreaking. It’s crazy because I have been to the memorial and it is truly amazing and a very sobering experience. It was a rush of emotion like somber and emotional but it was also beautiful and breathtaking. I honestly didn’t even think about the upkeep it would take every night and how difficult a job it would be. I truly thank these hardworking people who keep the memorial so pristine and beautiful. I am grateful to have a place I can go to pay my respects and now have a better understanding of these amazing people behind the scenes keeping it a special place!!
Well said, I feel the same. I will never understand why some people feel the need to mar the memorial’s surface. It boggles my mind.
Probably a Russian
You know, I agree whole-heartedly with your sentiment and I fully share your view on it. But now, consider this : If some people were actually willing to carry out these hateful acts on that fateful day, it's hardly surprising if some people would be willing to 'piss' on the memorial site.
Beautiful. New York, N.Y.- Born and bred and there is nothing better. Excellence, exceptionalism, beauty, character, delight, wonder, intellect, talent, camaraderie, spirit, resolve and big love believe it or not.
Idk how or why I got here, but just the first story of the bagels, has restored so much in me that has been destroyed by the evils of this life. The honest work they do in such a harmonious and beautiful relationship with each other, helping feed our hungry bellies. Bravo
When all else fails, fall back on the baker.
Damn that guy is serious about bagels, perfect type of person to do that job
the guy that crawls in those pipes doesn't get paid enough
Look at all the difficult jobs; the jobs that no one else wants to do that men do - ever so quietly.
Shoutout to all these hardworking men.
...did you watch the same video I just saw?
There are WOMEN there too goofy.
Okay so? Maybe men prefer it women don't HAVE to do those jobs do they
shout out to the dogs at the airport too, hardworking men and dogs
@@Chisthebest0 ...what men prefer is irreverent, women get harassed out of jobs they want by men who decide that their ego is all that matters.
Yum Yum !, I would go to New York just for those Bagels.
RE: The Bagel Business: Manhandling those mountains of flour, eh?! That's at least a few truckloads of bagels!! And 15 - 27 years of devotion - that's precious!!!!! I hope they're billionaires! OMGoodness! I recommend allowing options for proofed and unproofed bagels.....as I prefer the proofed varieties. I like your fresh sandwiches! They look delish! Overall a very heart-warming and inspirational doc!
I barely remember the senior class trip to NYC I went on in 2007 with my high-school; but I remember my best friends and I having a great time at Katz's! I literally remember that huge sandwich and how my BFF and I had an eating contest, but as 100lb, 17 year old girls, it lasted about 3 bites 😂 but very good and cool place to go if you're visiting NYC and don't want to feel like such a tourist or outsider.
I was taken aback that people are etching stuff in the wtc fountain plaques.
It made me upset that people had their small kids standing on the name plaques with shoes sometimes.
I wonder if he knows my friend, Steven Hagis, from Cantor Fitzgerald, on the north plaque.
When i worked in the area, i would visit the names of the people i knew that passed away at wtc.
On September 11, 2001, my dad went in front of millennium hotel and did free emt. Theres a long story about that day for me and my dad.. i wrote some of it on other you tube channels.
Much success, happiness ,blessings, and health to all.
God bless these folks. That looks like a tough but satisfying job.
Makes me want to go to NYC. Such a unique and special place.
it's not. never been worse. expensive as hell also
These are all amazing people doing amazing things. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Water temperature that is too hot can cause the yeast to die and too cold causes it to take longer to be activated. Barometric pressure also affects the rising of the dough
I Love Bagels.
I’ve only been to Katz’s once and I came across the place by accident. I’ve never been a pastrami fan but Katz’s really is that good. I get it. You go to Katz’s for the salami but my only complaint is the sandwiches are 99% salami and 1% bread. It took a while before we were able to get out but watching what was going on around you was absolutely fantastic. It’s a gem of a place if you want a delicious meat sandwich. It’s almost like “can I get a little bread with my meat sandwich?”
What an awesome video. Learned so much. Great job, thank you.😊🎉
I want that sandwich 🥪 right now! 😢
i know.
Totally. We are driving in from the suburbs just to scarf one down.
Making money is not the same as keeping it there is a reason why investments aren't well taught in schools, the examples you gave are well stationed, the market crisis gave me my first millions, people shy away from hard times, I embrace them.. well at least my advisor does lol.
yeah investment is the key to sustaining your financial longevity but venturing into any legitimate Investment without a proper guidance of an expert can lead to a great loss too
Hello, I’m 37 and I am not worth much yet , please help me out. Bought my first house last month and I can't seem to make any other smart investment.
wanted to trade, but I got discouraged with the market price fluctuations
Can you recommend a guide for me?
Haven't you heard of Expert Chrissy Barymoer ?He gives excellent guide on the right stock with high dividend
The gentleman working to honor the memories of the 9\11 victims are American heros. If you were alive & witnessed that day you'll never forget where you were watching the worst horror ever in our lifetime. What they do i would gladly volunteer to do. To see that its disrespected boils my blood.
Never forget, what is happening to our country is such a shame.
I lived on the corner right by utopia bagels for a few years. They really are the best. I remember back in 2016 before they expanded their store the line in the morning would legit be around the block on any given day.
This was so interesting and very educational & entertaining. A learning experience to say the least.
Watching this just amazes me. It's not just the dedication to making bagels or sneakers or an impossible job, but what is truly a giant extended family.
I will never let the city take my 80-year old spruce tree. Much less for FREE.
This is the way I remember bagels being made in Brooklyn, NY and South Beach in Miami.
A few years ago I had two customers who started bagel factories in Charlotte. One man made his bagels this way with the kettle-ing.
The other was run by a family with a chemical engineer father. The bagels were put into steam cabinets instead of being boiled. Both bagels were good but they were bigger so they could be made into sandwiches. The Brooklyn and Miami bagels were crispier and had a less dough-y texture. The Miami bakery had a sign that said that if you needed a tooth pulled you could just eat one of their bagels and the tooth would come out with no need to go to the dentist.
I put more stock in the Brooklyn and Miami bakeries for authenticity because everyone there had a tattoo from a concentration camp.
I'm not crazy about the modern bagels I guess because I remember what an old fashion bagel was like.
The steamer type bagel company had a contract to make bagels for Sara Lee. In my opinion that was their undoing. They went out of business shortly after they started mass producing bagels. The bagels were all rolled by machine. Prior they'd had a small restaurant and retail counter for bagels and various types of cream cheese flavors and lox. (smoked salmon)
The Brooklyn bagel bakery also made soft pretzels. In the 1950s and early 1960s I would buy 25 bagels for 2 cents each and cell them for 5 cents. The only plant you needed was a peach basket and two towels to keep the heat in. If you had a rolling shopping cart you didn't have to carry the basket all day. I sold them nearly every day during the warm months but only on Saturday during the cold ones. What didn't sell I took home and we ate them as bread with dinner.
Pat is the man! Mr. Green from Omaha, Nebraska. I love that beef.
Thanks, I will never travel to a large city like NY. It was good to see, except for the tree-cide apetite of the last part.
Just love the attitude of the Bagel dude
Great piece
Amazing 👏
I really enjoyed this and found parts of it fascinating!😊
oh man pastrami sandwich from katz was my favorite. glad to see they are still in business
My grandfather's restaurant Andre's Swiss Con had the same type of oven. Nothing better!
👁️👁️. May god bless the fab creative people like this wonderful man …. Letting him know how appreciated he is💜‼️💜
That bagel shop seems like a superbly run outfit
Moral: Hardwork does not pay when it comes to earning money.
It's arguable that this isn't hard work just manual labor. Could be said that desk jobs that require years of schooling and training with complex concepts is more hard work and does pay higher. So hard work does indeed pay
@@raymondqiu8202 'This isn't hard work, just manual labor'. Ok, fair enough. And I guess an arm amputation isn't a serious injury, it's just a permanent manual disablility.
moral : this country is going down the toilet because of those attitudes. people being " allergic" to working
😮 If only we had something like this in Palm Coast FL!
I grew up in the Bronx back in the 50's. The biggest treat used to be stopping at the bakery after church and getting a 1/2 dozen fresh bagels or kosher hard rolls. So delicious
I have been trading for about 6 months now and just about every mine, it backfires and slaps me in my face. Nearly impossible for me to catch more than a few points I try to do top down analysis but it doesn't work for me . I say to myself, clearly I'm in the 90% that lose money, so I open a demo account, do my analysis, then take the opposite of what I would normally take and get the same result. I'm starting to feel hopeless, any advice for a struggling trader?
Indeed, the recent market downturn serves as evidence that a vast majority of individuals lacked a sufficient understanding of the underlying financial dynamics at play.
Don't listen to him, don't give up. Mining takes time(months, even years) to master, even the pros learn everday. Never the less, if you lose money no matter which side you take, maybe you need to look at how you are managing active trades rather than how you are entering them. My advice, find a mentor . And also, try incorporating the use of oscillators, Bollinger and pivot points into your strategy. And most importantly move to higher TFs(4h or 1D preferably), you'll thank me later.
You're absolutely right. While I don't incur losses with every trade, my primary challenge lies in allowing my winning trades to fully develop. I often find that I miss out on significant movements in the market. Instead of capitalizing on these opportunities, my trades tend to reverse after initially moving in my favor. Additionally, I acknowledge that my entry points could be significantly refined. Finding a mentor to guide me through these challenges would be immensely beneficial, although I recognize that locating a reputable mentor is easier said than done. If you happen to know any legitimate mentors, I would greatly appreciate any recommendations you could provide.
I've been working with a financial advisor since I started investing. In today's market, the challenge lies in timing purchases and sales of trending stocks, which seems straightforward but can be tricky. My portfolio has grown significantly, making about $1500 bi-weekly. Essentially, what I'm saying is that the 5% of consistently profitable traders often fly under the radar; they're typically low-key individuals. I rely on my account manager to handle entry and exit orders for me.
Would you mind recommending the specific professional you utilize for their services? I'm facing numerous marketing challenges and could use some assistance.
This is a heavy place, in person it’s an awesome fountain. it got me choked up standing there reading the names. It’s too bad our country isn’t how it was when 911 happened.
It's fascinating the different jobs in the world and how everyone has a purpose.
The bagels guy didn’t mention his two other ingredients.
Hair and sweat 😂
a beautiful testament to the real ones out there 🙏🏻❤️🌃
24:14 i used to change those filters in baghouses at cement, coal powerplants. I was even at a trash powerplant outside nyc
Tastes from my youth growing up in NYC.
You cannot get anything even close to a real ny pizza, a katz deli corned beef, or awesome bacon egg and cheese bagel❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Business Insider, This video is fantastic! I liked it a lot!
It's cool that you can tell who rolled the bagel by what it looks like (if you know them). I just love that it's hand-done. I don't really eat bagels but I'd like to try those.
Best to leave while you still have a business. When you see stars at night you are in the right area
7,000 bagels in 2 days... Wow, that man makes alot of dough.
He is paying 42 employees.
I’m surprised Business Insider didn’t add the slow ethereal music with the light narration like they do for Japanese artisans 🤣
Proud to work with anyone anywhere out of love passion purpose not competition. Needs health not wealth first.
Fantastic!!!❤

The narrator saying it will look like Jim and the team were never there reminds me of what Leonardo Dicaprio narrated at the end of Gangs of New York who said something similar. ❤❤❤
Where the bakery or restaurants are located, so when I visit NY. I can try it, at least. Looks do delish. Cook with love ❤❤❤
I love Bagels, I eat in the morning bagels, One Bagel or 3 slide a day.

Let us hope this business can remain despite the corrupt and incompetent leadership in New York.
I don't know if it is a good idea to put together food and then garbage category. One moment I'm drooling. Next, I'm nauseous. Not a good combo 😄
Because they end in the garbage sooner or later 🗑️
You're right. I guess 'food & then sewage' would have been a more appropriate combo.
I just got to have a bagel somehow today, along with all the other problems.

Staying abreast of the latest trends and strategies is crucial for traders to stay ahead and make well-informed decisions. Beginners in trading and investing must recognize that success in these fields demands technical analysis, emotional maturity, and self-discipline. Thanks to Monica Lisa Payne insights, daily trade signals, and my dedication to learning, I've been increasing my daily earnings. Kudos to the journey ahead!
erNameIs Monica Lisa Payne, cant divulge much. Most likely, the internet should have her basic info, you can research if you like
It's unexpected to come across her name here. She understands every beginner’s intention and fix you to a trading course that matches your capacity, she knows her stuff! Her advice has been invaluable to my trading journey. Definitely worth giving a shot!
It is really refreshing to see a comment about Monica Lisa Payne.I have worked with her also for months now, reached out after reading more about her on the internet. she simplifies matters, whether it's a market surge or drop; her approach consistently keeps you ahead of the trend, She's a guru i'll say

33:36 They don't have to to bury the AVAC system if they implement it in New York. Install it on the surface, its a lot easier to service it that way when something gets jammed inside the tubes.

Nothing like a good n.y. CITY BAGEL. WISH I COULD GET SOME IN UPSTATE N.Y.
The incinerator one was the best because it's more environmental.
I disagree with seizing knock-offs. Knock-offs should be legal.
@@SikanderGYeah that whole "Customs" part is so irritating. The hypocrisy is killing me and it's just a way to get more money.
They're "worried" about invasive bugs and plants coming through when you get shit shipped from other countries with bugs to our grocery stores constantly for our convenience, but that's ok because they get money. You can go to Lowe's and Home Depot to buy invasive plants that kill our local natural plants because you find them "pretty", but apparently that's ok too because it's a big business doing it.
When you go to Chinatown or other places around NY you can buy off-brand/counterfeit things all the time, but they seize it when it comes through customs? I agree, I think it should be fine to buy those. It's all about money to these BS companies. Not to mention I bought an exact souvenir from Chinatown for $5 compared to the gift shop for $25. It. Was. The. Same. Item. No better, no worse. Both made in China, in the same box etc.
And the whole "it's all taken to a TOP SECRET location" also irritates the hell out of me. That just screams that it's being resold/taken for themselves to line their pocket. 😂
I swear, that bagel shop owner was actually Joe Gatto filming an episode.
Is bagel considered bakery? There's a stereotype in Europe about American bakery based on the american industrial white soft square bread. These bagels are truly work of art!
americans consider a bakery any place that bakes items that are mostly flour based. so breads, cakes, cookies, etc. some bakeries will prepare things like sandwiches and soups as well.
I'M STARVING NOW!!!!! Thanks.
