Born and raised in Plovdiv. It's always great to see other people appreciate our beautiful hometown and it's cool to see the places I visit every day video blogged. Next time get a bike and go to the rowing canal. There is a cycling track by the river. Then just sit on a bar by the canal and chill with a cold Bulgarian beer. Cheers :)
@@bellakaminsky3540 There is a bus that goes to Plovdiv every hour. Also there is a Fb group for ride sharing which is probably the fastest option. There is also the train, but I would probably stick with the bus if I were you. Should take 2 hours in total.
FYI In the middle of the day in the summer locals stay indoors, out of the sun. It's just the done thing. They come out in the afternoon and evening when it cools down and have a stroll to work up an appetite and for some fresh air.
So glad you enjoyed my hometown. By the way in the summer most of the locals just hide at home from the heat or just hit the seaside, hence it's empty. But to be fair I prefer it that way. As for the Old Town - Kapana is basically like 200 years old which is quite new by Plovdiv standards, the Old town is a gradient the higher you go it goes from 300 years old to 6000 years old. ;)
Since this was filmed in July, and in Bulgaria, it's really hot (as you could tell) and most natives stay at home from 2 to 4, there's a "rule" where 2 to 4pm no one is meant disturb others, it's considered a quiet time where everyone is at home, and generally people do stay at home a lot more during the summer, as they have ACs, that or are on the beach (Burgas, Varna etc.). Glad you guys enjoyed Bulgaria, there's so much history in it, one of the oldest countries in the world, Plovdiv being the 6th oldest city in the world and so much more.
Thank you so much for loving our country as much as we do. And trust me, what youve seen is only the beginning. Guys, the streets are usually crowded but in summer (especially in July and/or August)we are all at the beach. That's why the city looks so empty. You should've visited Varna, Burgas, Sunny beach, Nesebar or Golden sands. That's where people during summer are!
Plovdiv is a historical city with very interesting history and objects, museums and arts in streets.Beautiful video,im so happy because you visit Bulgaria.I'm born from Bulgaria and Plovdiv is my born city.❤
Late to the party this time (blame work). Plovdiv is just so....cool! It just is! It appears to me to offer layer upon layer of detail and interest. The old stone buildings and walls, next to old timbered houses. So much variety of architecture. It looks the sort of place that you could spend weeks exploring just taking in the atmosphere, the history and all there is to see. One question - are you featuring short section of background "crackle" in the sound track at one point in each video, or am I just losing the plot? :)
Definitely so much going on in Plovdiv, including wine! Our vid today is an insane full day tour we did 🍷 Re the crackle, definiltey nothing on purpose or that we've noticed at all. Hoping (in the nicest way possible) that it's just something on your end and not our camera or export playing up... hhmmm.

I was born in Bulgaria but live in Australia and I miss Bulgaria every day so videos like this keep me going and make me happy to see people from other countries exploring and discovering the beauty of my home land. I discovered your channel a few months ago and simply love it! I have watched almost all of your vlogs and soon will have seen all of them..haha. While it is true that you have definitely evolved and improved from the beginning, what makes your vlogs special is the two of you. Your natural manner and the beautiful interaction between the two of you is what makes your channel truly special. When I am watching I feel as though I am literally with you which is something very difficult to achieve and so enjoyable for the viewer. Do not ever forget that as you move forward. I noticed your subsciber base is really starting to grow, and I cannot think of two people who deserve it more!
Sort of blown away by this comment, thank you Darren! We get nice comments, but not very often do people take the time to actually write out their thoughts beyond "nice video" or "cool editing" sort of thing. We're really happy you've gone back and watched lots and can actually tell us what makes us unique! It's weird, you become so close to things sometimes it's hard to see what sets you apart. So thanks for watching and thanks for the awesome comment!
So, I am born and raised in Plovdiv and when you said that the streets may look the same in Kapana you weren't wrong. Actually that is its idea. Kapan(Капан) translates to 'trap' and this neighborhood is called Kapana because you can get lost as if you were in a trap. And there weren't so many people because many of the tourists come in August and local people go out after 5 pm (after work) or they are on a holiday. July is the best time to go on a holiday from the perspective of Bulgarians.
Kapana literally means "The trap" so it`s normal to feel a bit lost there. I am so happy and grateful that you guys are showing my country in good light! I hope you had the most amazing time here and hopefully you return someday (maybe to check out the sea, we have old towns and ruins there too :D ). Lots of love from Bulgaria

hey guys. You are great. Thanks for being 'blown away' :) No seriously, great video and I appreciate the nice words about the city- it is very old, but indeed it is 'glorious' :)
Plovdiv is definitely a pure gem! However it gets crowdy as well, the streets are so empty because its way too hot and everybody is somewhere on holiday! Especially in August!
Seems like you guys really went for a walk at the time when everyone is either home cooling off, working or out of town on vacation. There are nights when you basically have to wait to even move because there are so many people on the streets and all around. Usually on those nights, when people from the town go on walks they meet at least 5-10 friends randomly in kapana or the main pedestrian street.
Guys! Plovdiv is great! On the last cafe on the hill you should have tried the tipycal fish meze, czacza, it goes hand in hand with a beer. Just a tip for the next time, if you ever come back there! For the rest, you have presented Plovdiv at its greatest! Cheers!
Hi, happy that you liked my hometown- it is really fabulous. But I have another question? What do you use to film your videos in such a stunning quality?

Plovdiv really is pleasantly beautiful and quiet. Just wondering whether it is just so sparsely populated or the people get to work in a nearby CBD area.
Plovdiv is actually full of life as there are many universities, job opportunities and has an important geographical location - on the way from Europe to Asia. It has been estimated that around 800,000 people live in the city. (Official statistics show less as many people from nearby towns don't change their address registration). Also, July and August are the hottest months in Bulgaria with temperatures reaching 40+ degrees so, most of the locals are on holidays :)
so i live in Plovdiv and i can tell that there are too many people here you just got there in the hours everyone is at work or hokme chilling so id say that is really busy city
Stacey, I recommend trying the word 'Dope'. ie 'Plovdiv is dope, yo.' There is nothing wrong with 'cool' though, so just say what feels right. Great video, guys! I love Plovdiv so much. I was there last fall with my wife. I even shot an amateur rap video there, it was dope.

im from plovdiv i really like your video and i only want to tell you our plovdiv's special word and its "maina" or you can read it as "mayna" we like to add it in the end of every sentence you can try too say to someone "hello, do you know where is _____ , mayna?
Hey Angel Karastoyanov - our camera is here on Amazon- geni.us/ourcamera but you can always check our equipment and full travel gear on our site- danegerandstacey.com/our-equipment/
Plovdiv had 7 hills but one got destroyed to make it into pavement. The one that has the old town on it is not the highest, the one that is the furthest from that one is the biggest (~140m). And "Kapana" means "The Trap" because of the streets. If you have more questions about Plovdiv I'll be happy to answer.
Thats such a "COOL" place lol, its ok we all use that term for everything, its in our culture i guess. Oh and that music, haha and was it intentional that you got me humming "heaven" from los lonely boys or is it just me? Love you guys and how you put a lot of thoughts into your creative vids. Be safe🌍🌎🌏
Thanks Nick! Comes down to nutrition more than anything, and getting to the gym when we can to maintain. We trained 3 times in about 10 days in Plovdiv. Then sometimes we spend a month somewhere and go 3-4 times a week to get in shape again, then maintain for a few months and repeat.
From focus-economics,Bulgaria inflation rate is quite high and number of population(million) went down to 7.1 (2017) from 7.2(2016),you,two can improve Bulgaria eco by drinking a lot of beer there.
Absolutely hilarious it's not a third world country. Your comment is totally incompetent. Bulgaria is an European country it cant be totally isolated, for example in my last visit to Bucharest I found prices similar to those in Sofia and generally a similar standard of living. In summary - tourism provides a good side income, but a bunch of tourists drinking bears won't shake the Bulgarian economy.
Hey Stacey & Daneger, counting down towards your 200th episode! I hope you will do a special 200th episode for us! 😬 A few odd things I saw in the vlog. Dr. E! signage... reminds me of my cousin’s self created comic strip called Mr. Eee. The main character resembles Alfred E. Neuman but with a bigger grin, therefore the Eee name and only 3 strands of hair. Go figure. 😂 and whaaaaa.... no fork and spoon sign on the tree trunk. Reminds me of people using the fork to scoop up rice and using the spoon to ... to ... what do we use the spoon for again? 😅 Totally....
We've been chatting over the big 200th episode and 50,000 subs approaching soon and have zero idea what to do! We gotta get our thinking caps on ASAP or it will pass us by fast at this rate!
Joshua Chad Hello! I am from Plovdiv and the sign with the big Dr.E! is an advertisement for a very popular plastic surgeon 😂 Not a very good impresion for the tourists i guess haha
There were so few people around, it looked almost like Spain or Portugal at siesta time. If "cool" is your natural reaction to seeing something, I don't see any problem with saying it. I'm sorry Dane I had to laugh at the bus story, I can imagine the looks on the other passengers faces :D
Exactly like Siesta time! Although at least the shops and bars are still open haha. Ah the bus situation was a pain, had to laugh about it though, what can ya do really.
*Is this what you expected from Bulgaria??*

Nice vlog guys!
Thanks man
@Daneger and Stacey may I ask you what camera are you using for for this video? Nice quality!
Hey thank you guys! That was interesting ;-) Do you remember by any chance the name of the café with the brick game?
Thats such a "COOL" place lol, its ok we all use that term for everything, its in our culture i guess. Oh and that music, haha and was it intentional that you got me humming "heaven" from los lonely boys or is it just me? Love you guys and how you put a lot of thoughts into your creative vids. Be safe🌍🌎🌏
The music wasn't intentional, but we totally should claim that it was :P Glad you enjoyed :)
Very nice videos! I want to ask you Daneger, how you are able to be in such a good body shape, when travel that much?
Thanks Nick! Comes down to nutrition more than anything, and getting to the gym when we can to maintain. We trained 3 times in about 10 days in Plovdiv. Then sometimes we spend a month somewhere and go 3-4 times a week to get in shape again, then maintain for a few months and repeat.
As a resident of the city I can tell you that you don't go on the hills in the middle of the day. The heat is unbearable. Either sunrise or sundown.
From focus-economics,Bulgaria inflation rate is quite high and number of population(million)
went down to 7.1 (2017) from 7.2(2016),you,two can improve Bulgaria eco by drinking a lot of beer there.
We'll take that challenge
whf?Bulgaria's economy is flourishing with 3,9% growth 0_0
Absolutely hilarious it's not a third world country. Your comment is totally incompetent. Bulgaria is an European country it cant be totally isolated, for example in my last visit to Bucharest I found prices similar to those in Sofia and generally a similar standard of living. In summary - tourism provides a good side income, but a bunch of tourists drinking bears won't shake the Bulgarian economy.
Inflation rate was high 10 years ago, now is like max 2%annually
@@catch_me_if_you_can6596 Probably above 4% if you take the grey economy into account.
Wonderful!!!👍👍
8:40 is the Ethnographic Museum.
Totally....
Wonderful video of my hometown :)
This city is my love :)
If you're still there, make sure you try Zagorka Retro - excellent beer, if you like beer.
You have to explore Smolyan
This video is good
Thanks! Have lots of others from Bulgaria and Plovdiv as well
and i am from Plovdiv XD
why taht is say 2019 in the grafitty are they traveling to the futur of what
Must have been haha
There were so few people around, it looked almost like Spain or Portugal at siesta time. If "cool" is your natural reaction to seeing something, I don't see any problem with saying it. I'm sorry Dane I had to laugh at the bus story, I can imagine the looks on the other passengers faces :D
Exactly like Siesta time! Although at least the shops and bars are still open haha. Ah the bus situation was a pain, had to laugh about it though, what can ya do really.
My Hometown😍😍
I guess the all time best is "funky" :)
Haha will try that next time
Hey im from Plovdiv:)
