Sohyang is an elite level vocalist, one of the best female vocalists on the planet. Thank you for the reaction. Next, it has to be her performance of EVERYONE, vimeo has the version with english subs.

Giacomo, You may have learned this from the Comments to "Bridge Over Troubled Water" but, just in case, it is important for you to know that Sohyang and a small team do all of the musical arrangements for her TV and Stage performances, including music, chorus, orchestra, and staging. Here, she includes many traditional Korean Folk elements including her hair, makeup and gown. Just thought you'd enjoy these bits of info.

This performance is also part of a competition show. This is a folk song about the hope of unification between North & South Korea. There's a good story behind the song. Sohyang is a cancer survivor who cannot have children. She dedicates her life to the Lord and is also a Gospel singer; songwriter; novelist; teacher (lectures at University; bible teachings); I could go on & on abt her! You should read her background.

Vaya agilidad vocal 😮 que bella voz. Ese fraseo a mi me sonó Soul. Había oído hablar de ella, pero nunca la había escuchado. Parece un Ángel, pasa de agudo en falsete y baja de repente y sube otra vez. Increíble la agilidad y no pierde ni la afinación y todo perfectamente ligado. Some background for this song. Arirang Alone is a modernized version of a very old folk song Arirang. This version is about the split between North and South Korea, that is what I believe is what the dramatic part is about. Then peace and reconciliation. The man who wrote this had to leave 2 grown children in North Korea. This is of course Sohyang's own arrangement like last time. Where everyone in the audience sings along is where Sohyang incorporated the original Arirang lyric and melody.

Arirang has no direct translation to English but the idea it represents is along the lines of very hard work or diligent struggle. The song is based on a Korean folk song that has evolved over a period of 600 years and now is an allegory for their desire to reunite north and south.
Sohyang is difficult to rationally explain. She might have died from cervical cancer when she was 20 but credits God with her healing. Yet a bad blood transfusion at the time of the surgery left her with hepatitis B. Normally that is easily cured with antibiotics but this was the rare incurable variety so it plagues her to this day with a compromised immune system and she contracts pneumonia rather often. For a four year period from 2016 to 2020 she was battling it eight different times and was almost out of circulation in the musical community. Thus Sohyang knows what it is to be chronically ill for a lengthy period of time but again credits God with teaching her invaluable spiritual lessons from it. She has largely been fine since then but did come down with covid19 for two weeks in the summer of 2022. Thankfully she recovered well and at the age of 45 sings as excellently today as she ever has. You are right when the thought comes to mind that there is no way this woman is 45! She looks 10 or 15 years younger, at least! But it is true. She was born on April 5, 1978! 🤷♂
Professional "super star" level music producers (David Foster), singers (Michael Bolton and Josh Groban), teachers (Seth Riggs) and vocal coaches aplenty are pretty well stupefied at how much talent is wrapped up in this tiny five foot four inch, 100 pound woman. Sohyang has trained her central nervous system to the point, and developed such articulate muscular control, that her singing technique is perfect. She is considered a master singer. Literally. Again Sohyang gives the credit to the divine entity, stating her voice "is from God." Obviously she has taken her singing talent to the nth degree, and tells others who want to enter the world of professional singing that they must be born with a good voice and then work very hard to develop it. But this barely scratches the surface of who Sohyang is and how talented she is on stage. Her stage presence and body language are unmatched in my experience, much like what Elvis Presley had fifty years ago but different, of course, since she is a sincere Christian woman and believes in presenting herself in modest yet excellent quality theatrical attire and with absolute confidence and purpose at all times.
I have also found these high production value South Korean music presentations to be as good as you will find anywhere on the planet. They show Sohyang in the best fashion possible and these seem, to me, as good as you would find at _any_ of the Grammy Awards in their heyday. When you add a Super Star talent like Sohyang to the show, everyone who watches it is quite rightly blown away. 👀😮💥👌😎🎸🎙👽🛸💖💖💖

I've seen no official support for this from Sohyang's team, but I've seen this several times and it make sense: the first third of the arrangement is innocent and light, and represents the three Kingdom era through the Joseon Dynasty, the second third represents the chaos of the Japanese occupation and the Korean War, and the third third represents the present day, hopeful for reunification.
And you will not find the "original" for Airirang. The song is many hundreds of years old, at least. The lyrical idea is that of separation and reunification, and unity in general. It is a very Korean idea, with tragedy, pain, strength, and happiness all mixed together in a delicious stew of emotion. The Korean music style of Pansori is a great art form to experience for this.

If you want to see more of Sohyang's vocal precision, check out her performance of Misty from Begin Again 4 (or sometimes called Begin Again Korea). That performance has no high note G5 fireworks, but it is the most precise vocal performance I've ever seen or heard.

Arirang non ha una traduzione diretta in inglese, ma l'idea che rappresenta è sulla falsariga di un duro lavoro o di una lotta diligente. La sua presenza scenica e il suo linguaggio del corpo non hanno eguali nella mia esperienza, proprio come quello che aveva Elvis Presley cinquant'anni fa ma diversi, ovviamente, dal momento che è una donna cristiana sincera e crede nel presentarsi con abiti teatrali modesti ma di eccellente qualità e con assoluta sicurezza. e scopo in ogni momento.
Ho anche scoperto che queste presentazioni musicali sudcoreane ad alto valore produttivo sono le migliori che troverai in qualsiasi parte del pianeta. The original song is very a very simple folk song, very little instrumentation & yes, Sohyang did arrange this song, as she does with all her performances, she is very talented & the orchestration & backing vocals sound great here but it’s even more fantastic if you listen to it in isolation without the vocals. I know Sohyang plays piano but I don’t know about anything else.

You mentioned that you don't have a reference to contrast Sohyang's song. Arirang is a traditional Korean folk song and there are dozens of different versions. This is "Arirang" performed by a group of women trained in traditional Korean singing (th-cam.com/video/5xGSngr275c/w-d-xo.html). This is a classical version performed by a joint Italian and Korean choir (th-cam.com/video/bg-Y-yUGfZQ/w-d-xo.html). This is an updated modernized version of the same song performed by BTS (th-cam.com/video/vwc5zTayVJw/w-d-xo.html).
