I'm able to create an ubuntu VM, but can't get the networking to work. I'm using the default switch. Creating a new virtual switch (external) takes over the network adapter completely and the host windows 10 loses network. Do you have any tips/videos for how to make the network work on both guest (ubuntu) and host (windows 10)?
So when you create the switch it might cause an interruption on the host pc but this should work itself out if not run cmd as administrator on host machine and type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. Could also try ipconfig /flushdns. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Could you tell me how to fix the resolution? Im using a 4k monitor and i cant change resolution... I attempted ubuntu 22.04 and Mint to see if it makes a difference? Im using server 2019 and installed hyper v on it.. my GPU is HD4000
Hi thanks for watching the video. I have found this forum on the issue. I hope this will help. superuser.com/questions/1660150/change-screen-resolution-of-ubuntu-vm-in-hyper-v
Hi thanks for watching :) on the right side of the panel you will see hyper-v manager you will then see a dropdown for your host name PC. Right click on the PC then click new- virtual machine. I hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions.
Very awesome tutorial. Got everything running smoothly. However, the VM feels pretty sluggish with animations. Is there a way to improve the speed to the level of the native OS (Win 10 Pro)?
Can allocate more cpu cores or ram to the VM. There used to be built in software that allowed you to use your video card but now its a basic driver for display its a shame really.
That all depends what you are planning on using ubuntu for as a vm. It only uses your ram when you have the operating system running but you will need free ram to run a virtual machine. I'd say 4gb of ram for ubuntu is a good amount the more you have the better performance same goes with your processor model and how many cores it supports.
According to this table it should support Secure Boot, however all TH-cam videos seems to disable that feature: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v/supported-ubuntu-virtual-machines-on-hyper-v
Yea I tried starting it with secure boot enabled and it wouldn't boot. I didn't look too much into the issue but read that if you disable secure boot it'll run. It could be something in the bios or something simple in the hyper-v settings that I missed.
THANK YOU I've been searching hours, finally the answer I needed " deselect secure boot" THANKS AGAIN
Glad to help :)

Thank you so much for this video!! You are a star.
A tried to do this Manjaro but got an error while booting about a failure to start Light Display Manager. Stuck. I'm a total beginner.
Im a newby. Is this same process if running Hyper V manager from a workstation thats controlling a Hyper V server?
I would think it would be the same process.
under the "action" menu I am not getting the "new file" option....are there any settings that need to be changed for that?

instablaster...
Does it require extra ram on the Windows 10 pro PC?

Maravilloso. ♥
