As I got older I realised it was all a grift, now I genuinely hate it. I have a genuine sense of sympathy for the Romanovs
My daughters fly across the country to see me, we watched the hunger games together and I made a point of explaining the dangers of a command economy
Then the last time they came my eldest said to my mum “Dad really hates communists”, that statement made me happy. I hope she hates them too

Small addition, while the bodies of the Imperial family were discovered in 1979, they couldn't be recovered until 1991. This was due to fears that the Soviets would have interfered with the dig and perhaps the bodies would have disappeared.
Also, there was fierce debate over the individual identities of the Grand Duchesses between the Russian and the American forensic teams. There's actually no way to 100% know which is which due to their closeness in age. Maria and Anastasia have been especially debated.
The reason two of the children were buried separately was apparently to confuse possible grave hunters. Which seems like an odd choice... but these soldiers truly bumbled both the execution and the burial.
They tried burning the bodies, dumping acid on them, and throwing them down a mine shaft, all of which failed to conceal them. Finally, they just buried them but locals were suspicious and had some idea where the family was, they were just too terrified to look for them right away.

    • @Prof_Tickles92

I used to be obsessed with this story and one thing that always stood out was the fact that Tsar Nicholas wasn't made for royalty. He was described as a simple man who dislike conflict and was the happiest when he was with his family. The reason he was so bad as a leader was because he didn't have the skills to be one, it wasn't in his personality but was trusted with a country and didn't knew what to do.
Not saying he was completely innocent, but just an interesting perspective of a famous historic figure. I believe in another life he would have been happy living a quiet life with his family.

But, well, history had other plans for them. :( It is still tragic for a family, especially in the death of innocent children.
