Great advice as always. I find espeacially when trying to learn a new tune and working it hard if I take a break from that tune for a day or two I can come back to it and it starts clicking!
Yes, I'm sorry to say that I seldom practice, but I did stop smoking a year ago so my breathing is much improved, I do need to start practicing again. One of the things I've realized is that you can learn a lot by just practicing the exercises, grace notes, note changes, doublings, and other embellishments, then practice learning tunes for a few minutes or every once in a while. You're an excellent teacher Matt, I'm glad you're here.
When I'm getting really frustrated practicing a newish tune, I'll sometimes go back and play a couple of tunes I'm very comfortable with, like Wings or Rowan Tree. It reminds me that I CAN do this, because at some point I had to learn those tunes as well, probably faced similar struggles, and I made it through.
Great advice, taking a break is OK. Breaking away is a pity. Another thing about the rut is many pipers cannot get together. How about an "Online Clan Gathering" or "Online patreon's Gathering" and Carrie could be the Gathering's Chieftain.
Not directed, but you were one of several students this week finding themselves frustrated with the pipes, so I felt it a good time to get a few thoughts out about it all.

That ones going on my wall!
I wish I could take credit fully for that, but I heard that as a kid… good advice though!
@@MattWillisBagpiper its still on my wall with your name under it ;)
Practice makes "Mastery", says pipemaker Antonio Forastiero (1929 - 2022), not "perfect".

How good is learning Raigmore 😳
Thank You Matt For Another Great Video Whenever Things Don't Go Right I Just Keep Trying Till It Sounds Right. Thank You Matt For The Great Video.
Good advice Matt. I go through many `ruts` in my practicing. A new tune helps but the poor tuning on my chanter and GHB doesnt help!
Maybe this can help! th-cam.com/video/D0TjjqKR8T4/w-d-xo.html

Hi would you recommend McCallum's acetyl bagpipes?
It kind of feels like this video was directed at me. 🙂 Thanks Matt!
