I asked Shiro about it and they said they intend to release more Ursus models. I picked one of these up last week and I'm very happy with it. The 2 Shiro dealers in the USA, Knifecenter and Recon One, currently have the Quantum Ursus NL in stock as of the day this video was posted. Edit: Knifecenter is now out of stock.
Those 3 bars might be to keep your finger from accidentally making contact with the blade tip. The backspacer accomplishes the same goal, but is more expensive. That’s just my guess though
Definitely going to put this on my want list! Size, price, and aesthetics are perfect for me. Edit: Currently available at knife center, just grabbed one!
I got lucky with mine and have perfect wood inlays with zero voids. I know that’s been an issue with earlier models. The best way to describe that Ursus is to say that it costs about half the price of a Quantum without being half the knife of a Quantum. Very happy with the “value”. Nice comparison and review. 👍
Just got mine with the micarta inlays and couldn’t be happier. I have the 95, Hati and 111 and this is by far the best value in the Shiro line. Great snappy action and a beautiful design. As you said, some of the shortcuts they took make it much more usable for day to day and at $625 it’s kind of a no brainer now that they did away with the wood. Great review, helped me pull the trigger on this one.
i forget about my quantum for the times that i admire other knives in the collection but then i get the quantum out and i marvel at the construction and it blows me away every time.
If you look inside they build it slightly on each side of where the inlay is and the reason they do that is because they have to mill out the entire inlay area and people keep saying the same thing but if they there's no room left look how thin that piece of metal is or titanium is between where they milled on the inside and were they milled on the outside for the actual inlay they've actually milled the same amount that's why that night there is actually lighter Then The quantum 2
It's interesting that shirogorovs must expensive knives are sold out and the cheaper ones are available, yet people complain about the price of the cheaper versions. Seems ass backwards but oh well. Lol
Great review! I got mine from KnifeCenter last week, and I like it a lot. I've had an F3 and an F3R in the past, and wanted a user Shiro, not a safe queen. The detent at opening was pretty stout on mine, but it's already improving, with use. Looking forward to when it's completely broken in!
I would absolutely be in the market for a full titanium version of this in the $700-$800 price range. But I guess that’s how they get people to jump up to $1200. The wood inlay just doesn’t do it for me. Thanks MC!
From what I've gathered the Cromax is like Elmax+ as it just slightly better in every category edge retention, corrosion resistance, etc. As to the comments shouldn't rep a Russian knife, if able to speak freely I'm sure Shiro as well as mass majority of citizens there aren't exactly overjoyed with the conflict.
I just got one of the quantum urus nl with the g10 inlays. It's my first shirogorov and im a little disappointed. For a 625 dollar knife the detent is super stiff and it came dull as a butter knife. Im hoping the detent loosens up a bit over time
I Own a shirogorov that I bought a couple years ago on bladeforum. Great knife but right now Buy American or used. Sanctions will make this knife even more scarce and pricey
What do you think about the future of all Shirogorov knifes sales in the USA? Will they stop being imported due to the sanctions and the embargo’s that keep piling up against Russia.
Like the shiro but the price... Now maybe I'll buy one but I'm not buying anything until after Blade Show Atlanta. Planning on picking up a nice custom fixed blade at the Show. Any recommendations?
I’m guessing… $500 instead of $800-$900? Might grab one a bit later in life. Looks like it would make for a good first Shiro Went and looked, and it’s $625, but the Quantum 2 is $1,150, so…
Remember that video you kept mistakenly saying "Benchgrade" instead of Benchmade...Pepperidge Farm remembers. Lol I don't know why I'm making this comment but great video on the Shiragorav I love the way they look.
Remember that comment where you were busting balls over pronunciation then proceeded to totally butcher the spelling of one of the most prestigious knife manufacturers in existence? 😁✌️
Yeah, without the wood, just plain ti or carbon fiber/micarta.. total homerun, I’d buy one immediately. Still a beautiful knife, wood lovers must be drooling. Wonder why they shrunk the pivot.. 🤔
The pivot is different because the bearings are significantly different. The point of their multi-row bearing system (which this doesn't have) is to spread the bearing load out over a larger surface area, which means they use a larger pivot.
I just got one of these (G10 inlay) based on your damn video my wallet hates you BUT the knife is flippin sweet! This will not be my only Shiro... (after my wallet recovers) Recon1 had some, no idea how many
To me, you might be able to tape credit cards together, but even doing that doesn't magically make the screws not flatheads. And using flathead screws is a choice similar in quality to having a "surgical stainless" blade, or nylon washers, or 110% lockup, or not having a pocket clip. Flathead screws are absolute trash. It's not about the tool being annoying, it's that out of every possible screw choice they could have made, they objectively picked the worst one. On a gas station knife I would expect this. But on a "grail" knife I would expect them to at least avoid the worst possible choices.
It shouldn't cost anymore than $400. You have some nice US made knives selling for $370, $380 that are pretty comparable to this knife. But I understand you pay a premium for the name.
I don't know man, I bought the $600 Quantum with the G10 handle and had some serious buyer's remorse when I got it. I couldn’t understand why I had paid so much for it. Granted, I was also a little disappointed because I'd originally wanted a Herman but chose this instead because it was a bit cheaper. Still, I couldn’t see anything that justified the high price tag. Hell, you can get a large Sebenza for a hundred dollars less, and they’re considered overpriced! And you might think it is blasphemous to say this, but I have a WE Nefaris which I am in love with and I’d take it over the Shirogorov any day of the week (note that I am only talking about the low-end Shirogorove which I owned). I’m confident that anyone who compared the two knives based on quality alone, and not brand name, would choose the Nefaris as well. And you can’t use the “it’s cheaper to make in China” argument here, because Russia has a lower median wage than China nowadays.
I sure to like some of the finer knives made these days, but the last thing I will do is chase already ridiculously pricey knives that everyone is chasing around the internet after they get traction and the prices get jacked even more. I carry a Para 3 daily and I really dig it. It works for me. Perhaps I have one more grail-type knife in me at the most, then I am done buying knives. I have more than enough for me. I'd rather just buy another gun for that money, and I don't really need any more of those either.
Never have I heard anyone talk so much, for so long while repeating themselves to the point of obnoxiousness so often. . It took almost 20 minutes to make any kind of point. GRRRRR!

This one and all Shiros are going to skyrocket on the secondary market now. Great news if you already have one but good luck. Buying Russian products now will however help the people not “he who shall not be named”
“I’m just less pretty..,” so it’s okay to use me and put scratches on me… How hypnotizes us to go and spend ~$600-$650. LOL. Thank you for getting me in trouble with my wife!!

Got my first knife! Spyderco Sage 5! Thanks for all the info on your channel, MC ❤️

They use them on other models and they are right at the tip of the blade, so I agree that's the most likely reason for them.
That is exactly the reason for the 3 bars, I was going to comment the same thing! @metalcomplex
I agree, it's a tip guard.
That makes sense
Definitely going to put this on my want list! Size, price, and aesthetics are perfect for me.
Edit: Currently available at knife center, just grabbed one!
Congrats! Enjoy.
how have you liked it? any complaints?
@@shanecsontos-popko1329 I love it. Honestly no complaints at all. It’s a great size and very slicey. Definitely recommend!
I got lucky with mine and have perfect wood inlays with zero voids. I know that’s been an issue with earlier models. Reate could make a killer Shiro Ursus if not the top shelf model.
Awesome review, thanks so much. I dig the knife but with they’d ditch the wood and just to a plain titanium handle.
I agree I would definitely buy that knife except I don't like the wood inlay
If you look inside they build it slightly on each side of where the inlay is and the reason they do that is because they have to mill out the entire inlay area and people keep saying the same thing but if they there's no room left look how thin that piece of metal is or titanium is between where they milled on the inside and were they milled on the outside for the actual inlay they've actually milled the same amount that's why that night there is actually lighter Then The quantum 2
I wonder how pricing and availability will be affected by the US breaking off normal trade relations with Russia.
Atleast you can reverse flick the gen 1/2
Finally pulled the trigger on a Shiro today, KC, great place to shop, and at 600 plus its not a cheap blade
It's interesting that shirogorovs must expensive knives are sold out and the cheaper ones are available, yet people complain about the price of the cheaper versions. Seems ass backwards but oh well. Lol
I would like the Ursus more without the inlay.
That proprietary screwdriver available at most Lowe's/Home Depot
Do you know what terms I should search for when I go to their website?
Great review!
I got mine from KnifeCenter last week, and I like it a lot.
I've had an F3 and an F3R in the past, and wanted a user Shiro, not a safe queen.

You can also buy aftermarket bits. They’re much cheaper and they work very well
I'm trying to find bits for this but the cheapest is ridiculously expensive. Do you know where I could find the bits you were talking about? Thanks.
I’m excited to get the KC exclusive with patterned micarda ! This model was the only one I could reach price wise.
Same. Have a shiro on mbrs so interested to see how they compare.
I would absolutely be in the market for a full titanium version of this in the $700-$800 price range. But I guess that’s how they get people to jump up to $1200. The wood inlay just doesn’t do it for me. Thanks MC!
Thank you MC! I was just considering a bigger companion to my NeOn and was a bit hesitant about Ursus line altogether.
Why weigh and measure? Isn't it listed in specifications?
I just bought a CF Hati , now im thinking about the III or possibly the F95.
I usually go to Ebay, overpriced abit, but can get it right away.
Maybe the three bars are there to protect the blade tip when closed?
No one has commented on if you can flip it from the Fuller?
I just got one of the quantum urus nl with the g10 inlays. It's my first shirogorov and im a little disappointed. For a 625 dollar knife the detent is super stiff and it came dull as a butter knife. Im hoping the detent loosens up a bit over time
I Own a shirogorov that I bought a couple years ago on bladeforum. Great knife but right now Buy American or used. Sanctions will make this knife even more scarce and pricey
That's rosewood. Normally used on high end guitar fret boards. Rosewood to guitar collectors is like Titanium to a knife collector.
just curious do you ever get these wierd blemishes on the titainium of the quantum.not scratches but smudges that wipe or scrape off?
What do you think about the future of all Shirogorov knifes sales in the USA? Will they stop being imported due to the sanctions and the embargo’s that keep piling up against Russia.
No idea honestly.
Like the shiro but the price...
Now maybe I'll buy one but I'm not buying anything until after Blade Show Atlanta.
Planning on picking up a nice custom fixed blade at the Show. Any recommendations?
if you want a quantum NL, there is ONE at recon one
Thanks for sharing MC
Don't have a Shiro but have some other knives with similar screws. I fashioned a few different sized non-marring drivers from toothbrush handles. RRR
Instead of screwdrivers, you made shivdrivers. 😂
would love to try the cromax pm steel! also there is an exclusive hogue deka in magnacut dropping this morning on smoky mountain knife works!
I’m guessing… $500 instead of $800-$900?
Might grab one a bit later in life. Looks like it would make for a good first Shiro
Went and looked, and it’s $625, but the Quantum 2 is $1,150, so…
If I use three credit cards does that mean they are paid off?!!!
The flipper tab isn't milled out either
Remember that video you kept mistakenly saying "Benchgrade" instead of Benchmade...Pepperidge Farm remembers. Lol I don't know why I'm making this comment but great video on the Shiragorav I love the way they look.
Say it’s not true that MC could make a mistake. 👍🏻
Awesome knives they look great...but for me my tuned Recon 1 is my groove.
What’s going to beat it for under 625 ?
The closest thing similar style I have is a ZT 0452cf at 240-260 dollars but the shiro feels a step above however a huge price difference 🤔
I find it funny they used the same pocket clip, but a different pivot, lol seems silly. I agree micarta inlays would be perfect.
The pivot is different because the bearings are significantly different. The point of their multi-row bearing system (which this doesn't have) is to spread the bearing load out over a larger surface area, which means they use a larger pivot.
My dream Shirogorov is the Hokkaido.🤤🤤🤤
$625 is what you call affordable?
I just got one of these (G10 inlay) based on your damn video my wallet hates you BUT the knife is flippin sweet! This will not be my only Shiro... (after my wallet recovers)
Recon1 had some, no idea how many

I hate how thin that tip is. I'm sure you could snap that tip off pretty easily without meaning to.
oh wow i dont ever remember leaving other messages?
Funny this video just gets posted the day after I get mine in. lol
It shouldn't cost anymore than $400. You have some nice US made knives selling for $370, $380 that are pretty comparable to this knife. But I understand you pay a premium for the name.
These are quite a bit nicer than the knives you're referring to. I think the price is high but there's no way they could ever be that low.
I don't know man, I bought the $600 Quantum with the G10 handle and had some serious buyer's remorse when I got it. I couldn’t understand why I had paid so much for it. yes it wood
I would just use masking tape on a regular flathead
I didn’t care for the quantum ursurs. Didn’t even feel like a Shiro to me. I didn’t even review mine. I sent it to Skelton.
I sure to like some of the finer knives made these days, but the last thing I will do is chase already ridiculously pricey knives that everyone is chasing around the internet after they get traction and the prices get jacked even more. “Almost exactly the same “= close
This knife was $600 a few weeks ago now they are up pass $1,000 incredible!!! Definitely Not worth it.
❤❤❤❤
I think it's hilarious when people can't figure out how to improvise the disassembly of a simple object.
