That's great. Now all that HOT air in the engine compartment is getting into that turbo. The box is there for a reason. Keep us posted, especially when that turbo goes out!

I’m most likely going to do this to my 22. My suggestion would be to get some metal screen and cut small squares to cover all of the openings. You can place over the holes inside the box and silicone them to it around the opening. This will prevent critters from filling the bottom of the box with junk. I’ve done this before on other vehicles and never had an issue, but with it being turbo, I’m not sure, but I can’t really see it being an issue because I see a lot of equinox openers who have cold air intakes installed with the filter in the engine bay and they don’t seem to have anything to complain about.
I have a ‘23. I just don’t know about this. I understand what you are trying to accomplish, I just think more heat will eventually become a problem.

Ok everything look good but the only thing it’s the holes next to the engine cuzz the turbo aspírate hot air comes to the engine the turbo engines be more hot than the naturally aspirated
The factory intake tube is behind the bumper fascia protected from direct water ingestion and ahead of all of the hot parts.
SO you let it breath better but hot engine bay air. From factory they have a nice ram air that leads from right of passenger headlight right in the grill. Filter is better choice and works, cleaning the ribs up inside the bottom works but the hot air holes no bueno
What were the 0-60 times?
It’s an equinox for gods sake and all that did was let hot under hood air into the intake. High IAT will pull timing and make you LOSE power. Or cause detonation in a high compression turbo engine just dumb all the way around

The airbox portion of the mod was dumb for sure. Removing the turbo silencer wasn’t terrible. Would be better using no metallic material or wrapping it in heat tape to prevent heat transfer.
so what if its an equinox? people have vettes and try to make them faster too even tho they're already vettes
@@cantwealljustgetalong2Corvettes are actual real platforms to build. Not an equinox. That’s why corvettes have a vastly larger aftermarket, compared to any crossover suv, because it’s not worth the money to mod it, it’s just a car you drive till it dies. Soccer mom with her back blown out probably whipped this equinox before a 17 year old got a hold of it and fucked it up with diy mods.
@brandondickie3456 the problem with your analysis is 98 percent of people dont have the money for a vette or cant own one for other reasons like needing to have something practical for family etc. so if you can only afford an equinox or a camry or another basic car, its nice to be able to make it go faster if you want to. sorry if that bothers you

Hope they still honor your warranty and can find an engine. My mom's blew up with a rod through the block at 2,000 miles and the dealer took over two months to find another engine.

K&N filter is okay......drilling holes in the lower half of the air box.....bad idea and not okay! The last thing the 1.5L engine needs is more hot air. Did you not notice the air intake is a COLD air intake. Cold air is denser than hot air and that helps any engine perform better.
Add air inlet I have it on 2015 chevy equinox with cold air intake pipes and stock air box and it whines

How is the air box restricted. Did you measure it? Hot air from engine compartment, more dirt and silicon entering the engine, no extra power, more noise. Sounds like fabulous idea. Using the presence of CEL to determine if all os running well. Brilliant. Science and technology at its finest
It’s not restricted, and this isn’t a build. It’s an equinox💀mom car. Coming from a former crv owner, it ain’t worth spending money on.
Regardless the air will be hot once it enters the box. It’s made from plastic lol which doesn’t regulate or stabilize temperatures. Also how will more dirt enter the engine if the filter is placed on top which is catching any dirt trying to eventually make into the engine? Yeah the filter will be dirty more often. But if you think about it air is coming in and out of the bay so it’s not that hot.
@reviewithme9913 apparently you have never data logged intake air temps, comparing stock, plastic, true cool air intakes with these aftermarket mods or done oil analysis to show higher wear rates.
@@tssci6774 of course the temps will be different but not drastic enough to cause engine failure soon instead it will take time as the engine will experience different air temperatures and larger amounts of air intake. Engineers made these boxes with limited air intake for a reason. What we are looking for is better gas mileage when driving around windy places. Where I live it’s extremely windy very often. I drilled holes towards the bottom and away from the engine to receive cooler air temps. I also put in an K&H filter regular kind not the short ram cylinder ones. I was able to reach at least 20mph speeds with less press on the gas pedal. Believe it or not made a HUGE difference as prior I was pressing down on the gas for longer periods in order to reach 40mph. Also note that I have roof racks.
@reviewithme9913 never said it would cause engine failure in the short term. You need to find a better way to measure performance and oem doesn't design restrictive intakes. A $5 phone app and OBDII adapter gives acceleration, torque and hp data.
U r going to over work the innercooler form to much hot air from the motor.
I have a 2018 same engine - I’ve noticed poorer gas milage with only 42000 miles. Any suggestions? Was always getting 28 around town and 37-8 on highway 2:38 -it’s a terrific highway car that little engine runs best at 70-80mph - I drive all over New England with it. But around town, not so great.

yah the 1.5's aren't known for their speed, the 2.0's aren't super bad or the RS's. The RS is def the way to go with the Equinox if you have the funds

Just take the box off and put a cone filter. Lol Wanting sounds our of a luxury SUV. Change your exhaust if you really need the sound.

How did you get the hose clamps off that plastic piece? They’re not screw clamps
Just used a flat head screw driver to bend the crimp tabs to where they loosened up.

Save your money. Buy a sport car. Trust me, modding your car is not worth it and you’ll regret trying to mod it. I’ve been there. It is not worth it.

@@owenblakeman5215 No issues at all! I've put 40k on the car since I did this mod.
No intake, no matter the brand or car will "add" hp. At most intakes provide less restrictive air flow into the engine freeing up any "trapped" hp already in the motor held back by emission standards. Basically a $80 ebay intake is just as good as a $500 "fancy" named brand.

@@BBAutophotography53 Just a piece of extra tubing I had laying around. I did have to force the one end into the smaller coupler and stretch it out a little bit to make it work.
