Dear Laura and Ollie - I've been watching you since the beginning and wow! Went back today and rewatched your early reno and YOU'VE DONE SO MUCH! Great job!
Oh my goodness that hallway reminded me of an old Victorian cottage I renovated…after spending a month steaming off 13 layers of wallpaper and feeling pretty pleased with my accomplishment I let the front door slam shut…the plaster fell off the whole outside wall of the hallway! 😱😂 Pity it didn’t do that before I stripped it! 😂
Just to let you know. We put a Samsung Frame 55" on the wall in our bedroom above the fire place. The TV sits flat against the wall to give the impression that its a picture frame. I dug out shallow trench in the wall face of the chimney breast and put a small 1" 1/4 tube in there (what they would use for waste pipe) . Then plastered over it. This then allowed me to feed the small fibre cable(do not bend it) down the tube. Into a recess like your wardrobe. The cable is quite long. This then connects to a box slighty smaller than a shoe box and this is where you would control the tv from. One of the remotes is Bluetooth and the other is Infra Red. I wouldnt put a plug behind the TV as it will not sit flat on the wall. I hope that this helps, message me if you want to see any pictures as our installation as it is finished. Love your shows keep going your getting there.
A large hypnotic TV in the bedroom. Aw for crying out loud. TV lies! absolute marriage wrecker. Come on young uns think a little. Fact husband comes home exhausted from work. Likes a spot of unwind time ....but......
Very worried about you, Laura. Can't find a post for this week. Hope you are feeling okay. Miss you so much. So look forward to my Friday night treat watching you and Ollie. Keep going - I think you're great!
You are both doing such a wonderful job and I find it all so interesting, plus you are such a lovely couple: a pleasure to spend time with. My fingers are crossed and I am sending lots of luck for your trades situation to work fast and good.
Maybe you guys need to let your husbands do the heavy lifting and you guys go off and do other things if you’re married to a handy husband! I know it’s not what’s in but if your hubby can handle it then let him! I know I would, just be like you give it a go and we will see how it looks!
my other half is not DIY orientated, so much so he pulled a wall down, literally, by trying to yank a screw out with pliers rather than unscrew it. any DIY is supervised closely by me now lol
I think that's where the saying comes in ...DO IT YOURSELF...!! I am the only one who does anything...!!! Just don't if you feel confident enough. But be careful with certain projects x
We have a 140 year old cottage and I completely understand where you are coming from. You need so much patience and lots of luck. So i will send some your way. Take care xx
Hi Laura and Ollie. I cannot get over how much courage and tenacity you have to take on such a massive renovation project. You have already changed your house into a beautiful home and it just get’s better. The value of it your property will have increased so much but by the time you’ve completed the renovation but I hope you will enjoy many years there in comfort and pride in what you’ve achieved after so much hard work.Wishing you both the best of luck with the next steps.🧡🍁🍂
Hi guys you two always so cheerful ollie youtake your timeyou can do most things just love you two so hard working pair slow down you have got a big house you have done so well love watching it is coming along you so deserve it guys
In New Zealand we can hire a giblifter, and my husband and I did an entire bungalow of ceilings over 2 weeks - I'm not saying it was great for the marriage, but we did it, and we are still together. :) There is a lot of repositioning the ladder and the giblifter (it had wheels) so we could apply the glue to the underside of the ceiling joists. But then its a matter of popping the gibboard on the lifter vertically, then you flip the panel to horizontal, then crank it up and then you can lock it up there so it can be the two of you working on screwing it in position from the ladder.
All that you've accomplished on your own "WOW" is all I can say. You make all us novice's feel like we can do the same but for myself I'm a "doubting Thomas" for myself. I've been watching you since Covid and I'm always amazed at what you've challenged yourself with. Bravo, and please, you have no idea how impressed I and so many others are with the progress and challenges you've faced and completed. My hat is off to you both.
The muscles that have developed in Ollie’s back and shoulders are testament to his impressive skill building during the renovation process. Kudos. And Laura, you are no slouch either. What a team!
I boarded the upstairs of my place with my dad, using some plasterboard props from screwfix. the only difficult bit with old houses other than getting the boards up is tracking the joists as old wood loves to bow and be all wavey
If it’s any consolation I think the way the building market is at the moment with demand outstripping supply, Trades can pick and chose what they want to do. My builder ghosted me half way through my kitchen refit. He left me without a working kitchen. I had to pay another company to come in urgently to level all the cupboards he had put in so the quartz worktop could be templated. Incredibly stressful but it is now done thankfully. You have a new subscriber ☺️👋🏻
Sending good wishes your way! As far as the outlet over the fireplace, I once had an outlet installed into the top of the mantle, which was so great for lamps, Christmas lights, etc. Also, you will want to leave some wall space between the mantle and tv because there will no doubt be a vase full of flowers or framed photographs on the mantle, and such like. What you’re going through with all the trades is the norm; everyone has the very same issue. I think you are both doing a great job, really fantastic, and I can’t wait to see future progress! Take care.
You guys are doing such a fantastic job! We renovated an old Victorian cottage about 20 years ago. As my husband proceeded to take 3 layers of tiles off the kitchen walls, the wooden floor went from underneath him due to old leaky pipes. He was fine as there was a concrete base underneath but we know the struggles of renovation all to well 😂
We are exactly the same renovating our 1950s semidetached house. In order to try and save money we are doing as much of it as we can but we’re two years into the renovation and we still struggle to find tradesmen either that are trustworthy or that don’t charge us a bomb to complete the basics of work. Fingers crossed you find someone soon to help you out. X
I totally feel your frustration! The best of plans (once you actually figure out the plan) go astray! ARGH! I just experienced the crazy of having all the trades arrive at the SAME time, even though they were booked (initially) with adequate spacing between! I think the worst part is that I had to prepare for each trade before they arrived (each trade having a list of things they wanted done before they could start). I flew around like a crazy women to prep because I sure as heck wasn't going to cancel (having waited many many months already)! In the end...all good but exhausting! Best of luck! Love watching your transformation!
Laura and Olli. Best of luck with your endeavors. You both are amazing and doing awesome. It is not just any one that can be driven and motivated to do all the hard work and labor that you are doing on your renovation. If is truly a labor of love. God bless you both as you continue to accomplish and work toward its completion. You will be gifted and rewarded ine day soon for your commitment and hard work.
Gosh the reality is shocking your brave taking this on! I agree getting trades in is very difficult they are so busy (where we live) took 6 weeks to get a little put in we to are Looking for plasterers! Sending you good vibes Laura x
Laura you and ollie can do It! For that size tv i dont recomment a Movible support arm i Made the change from one move to a no move stay glue to the wall.
Keep the faith guys, you are quite remarkable!!! One day you will be able to sit in your beautiful finished home, and raise a glass to all the hours, and efforts you have put in to making your dream house come to life!!! 🤍🏡🥂✨kbgardensnhomes xxx ❤️
Wishing you all the best of good fortune and peacefulness. You two totally amaze me! I kinda got exhausted watching you guys, especially when I saw the huge mess on the floor. But you managed to get it all cleaned up. 👍🏻💪🏻
Not sure how much it helps…but I totally understand your frustration…I can’t get a plasterer to come and repair a small hole in my bathroom ceiling ..they came quickly for a quote…it’s onetime about 12 inch square quoted nearly £300 and that was months ago! Have I been ghosted too🥴! Lots of extra demo but the hallway will be beautiful when it’s done.💖🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕jane
Red Poppy Ranch (in Washington/Oregon area) bought some type of instrument second hand for plaster boarding/dry walling the ceilings, which was great. I believe he sold it after he finished. You might send a message asking ask Heath (his name) the name of the item.
Our home has been un plastered in places for nearly 2 years, we just can't get a plasterer to do the work😭 our house is just constant dust because of it
I'm 58 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, we are finding it impossible to replace it. We can get by, but cant seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 40years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.......
There's just some jobs in that trade the industry won't do unless they've got a big incentive. Put another handsome paying job with it if you can and make it a package deal.
I have a 70 inch Samsung TV, installed by Samsung, in my living room. It doesn't have a plug, just a very thin wire, my other half is a TV expert/connoisseur so if you have any questions about Samsung TV installs lemme know and I'll ask him and get back to you asap :)
oh, also, you could get some paper or cardboard in the size your TV will be and hold it up to get the best idea of placement. I don't like really high TVs either, but you have high ceilings and also need to take into consideration the viewing angle from where you would be watching it most (in bed etc)
I'll State the Obvious... You Dear Laura and Ollie are "The Contractors" and responsible for finding/hiring Subs(contractors)....saves money but a hassel. Built 4 Homes+1 Remodel this way.. No Regrets! Love and Patience sent your Way.❣️
Quite honestly you are fortunate to have a man who really loved you because living in sin before the marriage Covenant is risky for most young women, which is why there were longer engagements. Sincere tip. Read Ephesians 5.21 onwards. Peter ch 3 Corinthians 13 and invite Lord Jesus into your hearts. Human love is imperfect, love divine is unfailing. + We did a critical flow chart 50 yrs ago re trades when engaged! Thankfulness is the basis for a well lived life. His timing is not ours His Ways higher.Amen +

Do you and Ollie ever fall out when renovating! My husband and I can't even hang a blind without rowing 😁
That makes me feel better because we are the same !
I’ll hang a blind for you love

Laura, I get excited when Titus is working on my projects too.🥰
I feel your pain Laura. We are renovating too but on a much smaller scale!🙁

Can you tape up the wall to get a visual of your mantel piece and your size of a TV. It will give you a better visual of what it would look like
