For a few years I used to take lunch naps at work sometimes with my car A/C on, so my cabin filter life didn’t align with the miles on my car. Of course I thought it was a freon issue when my A/C was barely working on my 4 year old car, but no, it was the cabin filter. Made a huge difference. Need to measure my cabin filter in boat hours instead of car miles 😂.
Ppl will say the quick lube shops are tryna scam you out of your air filters by overcharging.... but then those same customers never actually change the filter themselves and it looks like this hahaha, glad you swapped yours, I see this like 15 times a day
I work at Toyota and this is fairly common, go to check cabin air filter "CAF" to see condition and see if it needs replacement, and oh no looks like you have some residents in your dash! Lol and then some unlucky mechanic gets to take all that out. 😮😷🤧🤮😵

I changed my air filter after people warned us abiut breathing in the ashes after the CA fires of 2018. There was lots of ash in both the engine and cabin filters.
And people wanna know why they have allergies and sinus headaches and pneumonia and bronchitis like forever chronically. It’s amazing. No one ever told us to change the cabin. Air filters in a car especially a used one lol.
lol I just discovered my Honda Civic’s 2007 cabin filter just recently took it out wasn’t too dirty so I just vacuumed out the debris and such. But man it is so hidden in the car didn’t know about it for years 😅😅😅
Common problem with Toyota's. There is an opening if you open the hood under the windshield. You have to get wire mesh and block that opening. I had a rat that moved in. Took the napkins out of my glove compartment and moved in under the center console. Found it dead as it chewed a ziploc bag and my woman's female products. Probably couldn't escape once i fenced him in. Chewed apart my kids seats as well.
The car manufacturers are not putting screen/mesh in the fresh air openings anymore so that the cabin air filters will have to be changed more frequently. Feels like a scam to me. My old cars without cabin air filters never get full leaves in the heater fan.

You hear horror stories costing thousands of dollars. I lysol wiped the crap out of the car after. No more poop smell through cabin air filter. I was amazed at the amount of napkins it stuffed under the center console without any visibility or evidence of it. Writing this to help others. Cheers.
It’s my daughter’s car. She is away at college. I put a nice set of 17” BBS wheels on it with new tires. It has an eBay front splitter and I added a JVC CarPlay double din head unit.

I live in the woods. Every single car I own this happens to, but even worse and I change the filters about 3x a year. Always come out looking like that.
I searched her car in the cowl, on the firewall, etc and could not find the opening that leads to the cabin fresh air so that I could screen it off. In older cars, like everything else I own, the fresh air duct is screened and no cabin filter. You get some dust and small debris, but never full on rodents and no soft bed for them as well.
@@DentedFenderGarage 2009 Tacoma I literally remove the entire blower motor and accompanying fan to DUMP out walnuts/acorns and occasionally chipmunk bones. For me it’s not mice causing the problems, it is the tiny chipmunks aka 13 lined ground squirrels. They are an absolute pest. I also remove the blower motor from my scion Tc to do this same thing. There is no stopping chipmunks. They are terrible.

I don’t believe cars need cabin air filters, it’s just another way to make people regularly buy another maintenance item. Before cars had cabin air filters they had a screen keeping leaves and sticks out of the car, now they don’t and people see some leaves or acorns on their filter and think they need to replace it.

Tis easily removed if you have a mink at your disposal. Otherwise, spray peppermint oil (some decent amounts of it).
