    I loved twilight shifts.... I did 25 years at the maudsley. I loved it until towards the end. The pathways became inaccessible to patients leaving them to get sicker than is humane. I do really miss the daily grind of psychiatric nursing. I ended up working in a couple of HTTs and realised I much preferred clinical. I might go back one day and do the associates degree as assistant practitioner. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

      WOW 25 years 👏 thats an incredible achievement!! Funnily enough I actually work in the community mental health team now. I really do miss working inpatient but the 9-5 routine works really well for me at the moment and gives me a better work life balance 😊 I’m sure, just like you, that I will be back one day though!!

      @@taniaalexis6919 I'd loved to have done 9-5, infact I'd have stayed if I did. Because it was a crisis team I was working 8-5 or 1-10 three days a week and 8am to 10pm the other day. It was brutal and rarely got my days off together. I also did on-calls for psych liaison referrals so would have to get up at 3am to do assessments... admittedly, they were rare! I did enjoy it but I think I got burnt out towards the end of my last job. What sort of CMHT are you in?

      Oooh how exciting! Congratulations on the new job 🎉 a few bits of advice: carry a notepad, pen and watch in your tunic pocket, be prepared to hear racist, homophobic and any other horrible comments, always bring more food with you to work than you think you need and it’s not as scary as you think. Hope that helps 😊

    Hi Tania, I just came across your channel and this is so fun to watch! I’m planning to do a master’s psychology while working as a mental health supper work part time to gain some work experience and cover part of the living cost. How do you feel about juggling studying with work so far? And is it hard to part time roles (like 1-2 full days a week) as a support worker? Cheers xx

    • @taniaalexis6919
      @taniaalexis6919  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha you will be doing pretty much the exact same thing I did then! When I did my masters I found it manageable to work at least one 12 hour shift a week (sometimes 2 dependent on work load). Everyone is different though so make sure that you check in with yourself. There were some weeks that I didn’t work as I needed more rest etc so just be mindful of that 😊

      @@taniaalexis6919 Thanks Tania! This is really helpful. Did you go through the 6 months (working at least 30 hour per week) development program for healthcare support worker under NHSP in order to be able to join the bank? I'm wondering if there's any training or orientation required. (What you did during your master's was exactly what I was hoping to do!)

      I studied psychology at undergraduate level at uni and started volunteering at mind alongside that in second year. I also volunteered at my local hospital in a mental health based role. After doing that I was able to obtain references etc that allowed me to get my paid role as a support worker whilst taking my masters in applied psychology. Hope that helps 😊

    Hi! I’m due to be starting this role on an apprenticeship basis, in hope of being a mental health nurse in the future. I’ve not yet got the place/interview. But I’m wondering what a day to day consist of? And how did u find your interview? I’ve been a volunteer on a ward before but found myself really anxious as I wasn’t really doing much and felt like an annoyance to the other staff. I’m worried it may be the same as a student/apprentice? What do u think? Xx

Feel free to ask any further questions and I will hopefully take less than three months to respond 😂

    Hi, I'm new to your channel. I would like to become a mental health support worker in the future. Can you give any insight or advice on this type of work and what employers look for when recruiting?

    • @taniaalexis6919
      @taniaalexis6919  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say that any previous work that involves working with people would be good experience. That could be anything from customer service to working in mental health previously. As long as you have good communication skills, are empathetic and willing to learn then I think you are off to a good start 😊

    Hey Tania! Are these positions open to people outside the UK?

    • @taniaalexis6919
      @taniaalexis6919  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course! I used to work with lots of people who had only lived in the UK for a short period of time. My understanding is that you need a certain level of English and maths skills and obviously the right to live and work in the UK. I’m not sure on other specifics regarding criteria but I do know that it is possible to work this job if you haven’t always been a UK resident 😊

    • @taniaalexis6919

      A lot of them do require some sort of work experience or a health and social care qualification. I was lucky enough to be able to sign up to nhsp and have a ward manager sign me off as competent. But if you aren’t in that position then I would recommend looking for jobs on indeed.com
