How the US Forest Service propagates generational knowledge.
Ive the same type tent but much older. Great base camp tent if One wants to backpack in deep. I dyed the white, cammo right off. Same woodstove also. Strongly suggest you make ALL your stakes from half inch rebar. (Im in far west Idaho and 15 days into my 30 day big game hunt, heavy weather learned me that long rebar is the way to go 😂)
Seeing yours I think Ill buy or build the internal frame. Mine takes me 3 hours to set up solo.
Glad I found your channel cuz we think much alike.
Break free or die trying.
Hi Cody. As a long term habitant of tent, I advise you to build a deck and external frame for that tent. I had similar construction and with 1 year it got to rot. And UV burned roof. So I spent next a week to build another tent with deck and heavy duty tarpaulin as extra roof. That tarp was like on trucks. Later that year, I also added tarp walls around to give extra insulation in a winter time. In a summer time I take of walls to watch outside. Now, this tent withstanded 5 years of living and still going strong.
Nice tip on the truck sidings, I have some I’m making semi permanent roofs with and was really wondering on its longevity
@@kemi_niko I'm working right now in a company that has a warehouse-tent. It's a size of Amish barn, pretty big. And we live in Polar circle. So we have a extreme cold in winter and summer goes also to Spanish heat. That warehouse were standing there for 10 years and not a single hole got in there. So yeah, it's pretty strong. BUT, do not use red or orange colour, it drives me nuts inside.
We are in year 3 with our White Duck tent - 16 x 24. It has been pitched in our backyard the entire time - winter and summer. The summers are hot here, so we purchased the polyethylene fly sheet to protect the tent. I caused the only damage (hint!) I tried to unroll an interior window cover last winter and it cracked like glass. Beware freezing temps with those window covers. Great setup!
My mother and grandparents lived in one of these during the depression. It was on an island in the Mississippi River. They dug down about three feet so they had good height inside. They had a huge garden and grandpa hunted. They did alright.
Sounds better than a 30 year mortgage
3 feet down not only expanded the space inside, but probably kept the temperature more even on a hot day. With the windows/door flaps open and facing the wind it could be very nice on an 80-90 degree day
How did they keep water filling the inside?
Spent twenty plus years guiding elk hunters in wyoming in a military 16x32 army mess tent.. Unfortunately it was spilt in half by a huge snow Storm.. We managed to salvage it to make a 16 x24 and use contact cement to put it back together.. Thanks Cody love your videos
I can't wait to see what you turn this into! The old ways are often the best ways for living happy, and healthy. I must admit, I am quite envious of that setup. I wish I had the yard space to do things like this. One day!
This is how the u.s. forest service teaches a lost generation... Keep it coming Cody you're making TH-cam a better place one video at a time
So why aren't you eating berries and sitting in a cave then?
@@sebaseba6710 because like most men, I have a family to support, and that isn't the way to do it. My family's comfort and happiness comes before all else.
I had to convert two of those harbor freight portable garages into something like this, but not as awesome. Lost my home in Hurricane Ian and using the make shift "lodges" while I'm rebuilding the house. I've had to use a lot of the old way tricks and new ways tricks to get me through this summer. From building my own swamp coolers to solar panels, it's been a real test! Keep up the good work!
That’s why you don’t build or buy a house near the coasts
@@beatsbyryits the United States....cant fix stupid
My dad, his siblings and his parents had to live in a large repurposed revival tent shortly after the Great Depression until they were able to get back on their feet. They lived like that for a year in the mountains of WVa.
Homelessness has never looked better sir
Up here in Canada I think we like to see a little insulation value to actually call something a all season tent. at -40 you need to huddle pretty close to a stove without highly insulated walls to not die.
My wife and I can’t wait to see the build of your log furniture for this thing! My wife and I and our two small children, lived through a hard PNW winter in a 240 ft.² shed. We lived in that shed for a year. We had a 40 minute walk up a steep mountain to get to our truck in the winter time. My wife cooked outside in the snow and we melted snow for water at times. You never know where you will find yourself in life. This tent looks much more cozy :-).
Wow, how amazing and inspiring.
Crazy that you would post this just as my family and I are going through potential homlessness....I've hit a spell of depression and anxiousness that my heart could not afford to bear any longer. I've dug deep and prayed hard...the lord hears me and will deliver me from this fear in the mean time I think he is showing me ways to make it to his arms in the end. Thanks for being you and doing the things you do. Blessed are you and your family! All praise to the lord! In Jesus name we all said...Amen!
I raise a Hallelujah!
@@izzyplusplusplus1004 Praise him!!!
Wishing you and your family the best.
Keep your head up high. Things will be better i promise.
Hang in brother the lord has you
I've been homeless but never had nothing that nice , mine was a 3 man tent that I held on to and I'm glad I did because my wife and I will most likely be living in it again the way things are going.
Once homeless, had a hammock. Much safer, because no one ever looks up.
Hope your fortunes and situation improves, friend.
@@joeysausage3437 In a hammock?
Damn you from the US?? Why are you gonna be homeless again??
Get that grind on big dawg. Go pick up a night job. Don’t matter if you 18 or 68. Go make that money stop thinking negative
@@beatsbyry Would rather be homeless than do all the "grinding." Sounds like slavery to me.
Brings back memories of when I was in boy scouts, and we had military surplus wall tents and cots. Some people would call it roughing it, but I loved it as a young man. Would have loved to have one of these in our troop.. :)
Ive honestly considered the US Army 16x16 pole tent. Similar window design, and the color allows for good camoflauge in the Appalachian Woodlands. 640sq ft, Aluminum poles and duck cloth fabric, and the aesthetic is honestly pretty cool too!
Man, those are some mighty-fine duds you're sporting there, señor!
We use a blue tarp when we camp a rug for extra comfortability also
I love this video. My grandfather, my mom's dad, was an avid hunter and fisherman (mostly ocean fishing). He would travel from the central valley of California to somewhere in Utah to deer hunt. I think I remember seeing pictures with a canvas tent in the background. But I do remember the huge deer in the pictures and the huge antlers nailed to the old tank house on the ranch. And then later hanging in the garage rafters in town. I'm 56. I never got to hunt or fish with my grandfather. My parents had a dairy and I was the oldest. So I always had to work. I do try to hunt. But I do not have much time for it. And I'm not very successful. But it is still fun to go. Thank you for bringing up memories!
I love these videos! Reminds me of early Wrangler back in the day. You rock. Keep it up!
Remember to flip up the stove jack cover BEFORE you cut the hole. 😅 I remember you cut right through it in the old tent.
Very cool series! Looking forward to the next episodes
I came across a video from two years ago with you doing the exact same thing with the exact same tent..... hell of a coincidence
Good morning cody. I just wanted to say thank you for all you do. Your effort in supporting men and women in this new age is truly a blessing to the community. Turning men into Proho and women into tradcon is truly a tall task but god made man strong and together we will serve god and we will never fall to this new world Evil! God bless this community and keep us safe from this new age of temptation..... Amen!!!!
Amen brother! 🙏
not bad
My wife and I met camping in W NY 766 days ago and we have been camping together ever since. We've spent 2 winters in tents, first a 3m bell tent, then a 19x14 yurt(with two main poles and 2 winnnerwell wood stoves). I put mine on a platform and built an entrance because the zippers ALWAYS fail!
Western New York? What part for camping?
My old man loved his. He would put pallets down as the floor during rainy weather to raise you and all your goods off the wet ground.
Referring to your family/crew as your “Warband” is something I greatly approve of.
@@gankt its always the ignorant accusing others of ignorance

lol
@@ganktIt's about being prepared for potentialities, not reacting to things already happening in this moment. I keep a fire extinguisher in my kitchen, not because my kitchen is on fire, nor do I think it ever will be. It's just good practice to be prepared, in case unforeseen events occur. How far one takes this concept is up to the individual. Thankfully, different people have different views. You don't have to be a bigot about it.
I knew wranglerstar wasn’t a back door man!
I can vouch for the comfort level of a wall tent, as I've spent the last two years in North Idaho in a 12x14 with an 8' cook shack addition.
Seen a tent like that been literally blown away when we spent a little stay at a German camping site in Bad Bensersiel. Was just a little thunderstorm, nothing big. Still: Blown away.
Really like canvas tents with serious wood stoves in winter . Look forward to watching what you do with it . Ontario Canada .
I would love to see a project where you live in this same setup for a year . That would be great content !
Main concern is security, someone can easily rob your belongings
Good evening Cody! You should make a series of your favorite multipurpose tools! (As in tools used effectively for unconventional situations!) love your work, wisdom, and words!
Nice tent and some niece idea s
What happened to the wood floor/deck you were building for the tent?
There are some very good off-the-shelf solutions for waxed cotton tents...but back in the day...You would just make one. And you still can!
I remember that Wranglerstar did have some videos for waxing cotton. Perhaps time to refresh for how to do this?
1. Mix silicone with naphtha.
2. Dip a sheet or blanket into it.
3. Hang sheet to dry.
Now have a waterproof sheet that will last much longer than a plastic tarp.
EDIT: YT video by @NightHawkInLight gives easy, detailed instructions. "Recycled Bedsheets Make The Best Waterproof Tarps."
100% silicone caulk ( the good stuff, don't skimp.) And 1 gal napha. You absolutely must use a paint mixing paddle on a drill and mix well. Must be remixed well after setting very long. But solution doesn't keep very long should be used up imediately. I've coated backpacks, hats, parkas, tarps. Can be brushed or rolled on 2-3 coats.
I remember when you set the first one up and cut the stove jack opening incorrectly!
My dad taught me alot of what youre doing on here. I reference your channel a lot at work to young fellas that do not have this kind of knowledge. Good on you for making knowledge free.
This Videos halped me a Lot gathering knowledge my old man faild to deliver, since He didn't know IT himself. I'mm very thankful for all the stuff I learned so far
✌Homeless✌is a better accomodation than your average city centre appartment
I still have my parents canvas cabin tent I grew up camping in. 4 generations! And soon 5. Mile High Tent Company, Denver Colorado.
Man, I love a good wall tent, here in Canada they’re often put on wooden pads for longer term use
Thanks for the vids Cody!
Thats a great tent and sure makes "roughing it" enjoyable! Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see what's next.
He doesn't like a door in the back. Hehe
I wish we had one of those while me and my brother build his cabin. We lived in a 12' x 12' camping tent for 3 weeks in the fall up in the mountains outside of Asheville NC (bat cave) while we converting his 12' x 8' shed into a tiny house. After that we lived inside the small shed while we built his cabin over 6 months. It would have been easier and probably more comfortable to just buy one of those and save the time and money of converting a shed into a living space. $3,500 is a great deal!
I have slept and lived in a GP medium most of my 20s on a cot. No heater. Roll up the sides in the summer and cold weather sleep system in the winter.
Love videos
A buddy lives in one with wood pallets as a floor they are great
I've seen poles like that bend at wind 45 mph, although the tent had 1 open side.
It was completely destroyed
I'm very much looking forward to watching some morning Livestreams from inside this by the fireplace.
I have a 12x12 wall tent and I love it! I’ve done tons of camping in all four seasons with it. From Wisconsin winter to Texas pines and Utah desert.
I think they’re better than pop ups or RVs.
This looks a really cool project. Reminds me of the green canvas tent we had for camping as a child. I may have to follow along with this one.
Your way is a blend of father and grandfather. And, that allows your lessons to compensate for consecutive generations of missing male role models.
Just the right size. Looks inviting.
Measure twice, check again, then cut stovepipe opening.
Does anyone know what ever happened to the tent platform that was near this same location? Did I miss something?
That brought back some memories, my grandfather used to say something very similar "As snug as a bug in a rug"
Hey! I’m thinking of getting one of these to go on a two year adventure to learn the cowboy way of living. My father is fairly familiar with that way of life and he and I want to go to Nevada where he grew up.
I have the white duck bell tent
What are you two favorite canvas tents? I thought you mentioned it earlier, but I couldn't find it. What tent handles heavy snow? Have you ever used an insulated canvas tent?
I like to wrap my joints with Metal HVAC tape to add stability - I have also used ratchet straps to help my structure resist high winds - run diagonally inside the tent near the top. To be fair, my tent was a cheap portable for cars so it did not have tie downs on the outside.
Hey Cody that's an awesome tent. It'll last longer in the elements of mother nature if you'd build a deck for it to sit on. Build it 2 ft. wider than the measurements of the tent then instead of staking it to the ground screw it to the deck with J hooks then it'll be there till the cows come home.
Mr. Wranglerstar, could you tell me why you chose white duck for your canvas tent? I’m looking to purchase one of my own, and I would really like to know how I can get the best bang for my buck.
How the US Forest Service occupies Mt Fugi.
Lived in one like it for a couple years in Yosemite, Curry Village. Wood deck and floor, Wood screen door
I had the old army tent, and even though that tent is long gone the chain saw and ax used to set it up still lives in the truck. I miss the few week long camp outs, days gone by.
When I first saw this I taught it was a repeat as I've seen several videos in the past were you put up the tent and another where you installed the stove. But then I remembered you cut a hole in the roof for the last tend. Are you collecting them? Why do you keep getting more? And what did you do with your old tent, not sure if its just one or more that you have had before.
Also want to know
I love these longer videos! Looking forward to the next part. 👍
I just picked up a big 12x16 reenactment wall tent last month. They are a nice thing to have for sure!
That's a beautiful tent! I can't wait to see you set up the stove. I went camping almost every summer growing up. My dad was a hunter and showed me how to set things up for camp, but I definitely learned some new things from you in this video. We never had a stove inside a tent, though, so that will be great to learn. I can't begin to express how grateful I am to you for all you do and everything you're teaching us. I think you must be an Angel in disguise, preparing us for what's ahead. ❤
He finally became homeless. I was expecting it quite some time ago.
Hey Cody, how about an update on the irrigation and hayfields. How many cuttings so far this year?
I love tents! I cant get my family to go camping in a tent. This would make The Sweet loaf a great doll house!! Can u cook Cody? Maybe Mrs.W can do a couple videos!!!
I would highly recommend looking at a kni co woodstove, they are made in oregon and have tons of sizes, you can even get a water tank on the side of your stove, ive had the alaskan jr model for years now and it works amazing.
Oh this will be a fun series.
Is the canvas waxed? If so does the heat of the wood stove have any effect on the wax in the winter?
This is the first tent I've seen in years that wasn't sitting on a sidewalk in front of a tax payers business or house🤣🇺🇸
Cody great idea with the tent .it looks sturdy enough for a fall of snow .plus strong enough for a stand against a strong wind too . BELOVED stay safe act accordingly
This is how the US Forest Service postpones the uprising to teach us about camping and making log furniture.
The father I never had
Average million dollar home in Los Angeles!
What's the most durable yet affordable style of tent like this you could recommend
Love it!! Our West Virginia deer camp, from eastern mountain man.
You could even build a nice floor with a porch if you were going to be in it a while. I thought about a teepee for summer. Nice job Cody
When you're inside you were sunglasses, and when you're outside you don't. You are confused.
Professional tent owner.
Can I come move in now that the tent is up? I’d like to live mortgage free please.
whatever happened to that platform framework he was building down by the river?.
is there a way to easily watch your tent videos in order?
Dang! Your "tent" is nicer than my apt!
Reminds me of my many years at deer camp. Many happy memories.
So if bears come wandering about the outside of these things, most likely because they smell food, how do you get rid of them? Can they get in underneath?
A bug in a rug 🤣 I haven't heard that in forever!
how about this “not by a long shot”
@@kevinmartin4801 lol
Thanks for coming back to TH-cam Cody!
My regret is that I can only “like” this video once. Awesome tent!
That Ganges River is beautiful.
What happened to the large tent you had with wood stove that you put up a couple years ago? Anybody.
Love canvas tents
It would be nice to actually recreate this on an actual elk or deer hunt. In the forest , while getting this winters protein.
I was wondering if I missed when you told us where to get the pattern for the pants you wear or are they available in stores?
The tent with the accessible back door is called the Portland edition 😮
Haha, ba dum tsss 👍
