@@MO-fi8kp First of all. Why are you on this channel? This guy is taking a literal vacation. He isn't surviving anything. Shelter is how you avoid hypothermia. Essentially, you'll have to get lucky enough to find the face of a cave or develop the skills to build a proper structure that can house a small fire. Learn about working with natural clay. How to make your own cord. If you can develop and create any semblance modern life from things around you. You want to learn how to do those things. Dress heavy before you set out, and most of all. Understand that you're gambling with your life going into the wild, and that there are zero guarantees of survival. The only way to improve your odds is by shortening your time out there.
Having a dog with you out in the middle of nowhere is essential, not only do they lift your spirit but they guard and protect you from intruders,"your breakfast, count me in,and hot coffee please".

Being from Massachusetts I have the unique ability too be able too camp in either really hot, humid summers, really rainy springs and falls or bitterly cold, snowy winters. For some reason theres nothing like camping in the winter, especially when it snows. The fire just has a extra level of soothingness too it besides the obvious increased comfortability of it. Plus in my opinion going on dawn walks while it snows in the forest is one of the most relaxing, beautiful things you can do in nature.
Your comment made me wish winter camping season was here again! I too love going on dawn walks with my dog and absolutely love being out in the snow. @@OffGridBackcountryAdventures winter backpacking sounds like a great time! I'm looking too get my younger kids into a powerless cabin in the snow this year and use that too start getting them ready for tent camping! Hoping the fall is way more forgiving this year! Happy camping brother and god speed!
There's a certain hush and quiet when it snows that I love. I almost feel I am in God's loving hands as a hammock! Love snow! I used to have a dog named Sierra ,too. Great friend to me.
Yeah, of course you wouldn't want to have a part in hauling every three days that dirty huge pile of custom made dry fire wood in just to stay alive. Yeah, sure, reading! While you have to feed the oven every half an hour at least to not freeze to death instantly. What you mean is renting a serviced mountain cottage or hooking up with a guy taking care of all that. Lol
It's the size of a small 1br house, it really is badass, I could brave the cold as long as I had a wood stove or 2 in there, one at each end of the tent, I'm an animal lover and his dog is well behaved, great pet, she's a keeper, and good at protecting him I'm sure
@@anns1921 Well, I would enjoy a dog company there while in a tent, but I wouldn't want to adopt a dog just for this experience. Part of my strategy in life is to have fewer irreversable commitments and either dog or a child is a form of that commitment, where once you commit to it you can't change your mind, you're now responsible for it until the rest of their life. Having either lowers your freedom and mobility. Having a pet is like a mini version of having a child (I had a dog for 15 years). I loved it a lot and I still keep its food bowl where it was, but I now want neither children nor pets.
@@ObfcrewOz Shallow in what way? Firstly, my childfree position is based on two core beliefs: that having children has worse outcomes both on group level and on individual level. I'm a utalitarian. Thus, I believe that every decision is either good or bad, based on its outcomes. On group level, either the world needs more people or it doesn't. In other words, either it becomes a bit better, as more people are added, or it becomes a bit worse. Some estimate that the optimal number of people is 1.5 to 2 billion, which is 4 times the current amount; in any case, it's hard to argue that the wold needs even more. So as more and more people are added, it becomes a bit worse. Isn't the definition of "selfishness" doing something at the expense of the group? If you make the world a bit worse with that decision, what are you? So I hope I've convinced you that not having children is, at the very least, not selfish, and, furthermore, it can be argued that having children is. I'll even mostly skip the common elifist position, which I don't subscribe to, but resonate with, that existince is not inherently good for the thing that exists. But, to give you a taste of it, my dog had congestive heart failure. It means that it was slowly dying. As heart fails, it starts to suffocate because fluid build-up in the lungs. I had to make the decision at what point my dog's life becomes worse than living, and it will require euthanasia to end its suffering. "Interesting" question, right? At what point does suffering from living starts to become worse than pleasure of living? If somebody were to live with a cloth over their face, and slowly more and more water is added to it, as they are getting waterboarded alive, and the only future prospect is only more water getting added, then at what point being alive becomes worse than being dead? At what point do you suffocate alive too much? Had to make those decisions several times in my life, not a big fan of that question. Have you had a depression? A lot of people have and they have to make a decision whether their suffering is worse than the pleasure they get from living. Have you even been dying from cancer? When you die from cancer, as my relatives were, there also comes a point where you have to think about similar things. So even beyond the group level, there's no guarantee that for any individual, their existence is better than them not existing at a point in time. Furthermore, many argue that that point is much closer than that, to the point that making concious beings is immoral from the start. Plenty of common philosophical traditions view life as mostly suffering, most prominent being Buddhism. To them, even seeking pleasure is a form of suffering. I don't necessarily agree with them, but I just wanted to illustrate that it can be argued that existence is not inherently good and thus creating children or pets is not inherently good. On an individual level, children make people less happy, as shown by science over and over again (so-called parenting happiness gap). So imagine that somebody is selfish and they want to contribute to the world becoming increasingly overpopulated. Well, science shows that it won't even make them individually more happy than they would be without children. But it is already a fat comment, so I'm going to stop at this. So, by irreversable commitments, I mean exactly this. Imagine having children and then recognizing that it is not good for anybody: it derailed your life and made you less happy than you could have been, and it made the world only a bit worse. You can choose a bad job, and leave it, you can choose a bad relationship and leave it. But if you bring another conscious creature into this world, you can't undo it. I think it is okay to recognize that some moments are absolutely better with that creature, despite that, as a whole, the cummulative price payed might not justify those moments. By the price, I mean both on the group level (in case of a pet, contributing to pets being bred) and on the individual level (the personal price of having to take care of that creature, the life mobility it takes away from you, and then having to slowly watch it die).
My wife always said that to me. I could bring her breakfast in bed, scratch my furbabies on the head and she would complain. So, I would scratch her on the head and give her food to the doggies.
I'm wondering how often during one week he has to go for a new pile of wood and where he gets that from. Nice to see him eat that "locally harvested" tasty seasonal avocado. Not hating, but the amount of unrealistic romanticism in the comments here is on an unbelievable level. At least his car is also big enough for the food he will need for moving around during the day to get warm. Where's all the green new dealers complaining about the lacking insulation and all the emissions out there in that "habitat".

There are a couple of sounds that are just so primal I think everyone likes it, one is a wood fire, the other is snow falling on your shelter.
Rain. Pretty much the elements
Rain on a tin roof is awesome
@Guy Grove you can hear snowfall on a tent…. That was the entire point of the comment. No need to be toxic

Sierra is so loved. Just melted my heart.
Having the stove is a huge bonus and I look forward to getting into winter backpacking this season. Hope your summer is going good in Massachusetts, only 4 more months before winter will set in.

This has to be the most badass tent I’ve ever seen 🙌🏼
It's the size of a small 1br house, it really is badass, I could brave the cold as long as I had a wood stove or 2 in there, one at each end of the tent, I'm an animal lover and his dog is well behaved, great pet, she's a keeper, and good at protecting him I'm sure
I Know!!😊
Goodass !
What kind of tent is this?
The big horn 3 is a good looking tent
I definitely couldn’t do this without a dog
Agreed and why would you even want to.
@@danielevergreen1133 You have no idea how shallow that sounded huh
@@danielevergreen1133 TLDR. Enjoy ageing alone haha.
I don't think I've ever had someone care about me the same way this man cares for his dog. Lucky pup 🐶
My wife always said that to me. I could bring her breakfast in bed, scratch my furbabies on the head and she would complain. So, I would scratch her on the head and give her food to the doggies.
Great setup, I like that area in the front where you keep the wood dry and can access it without going outside.
Yes that mans tent with the wood-stove and his doggie is a pretty good setup if you have to live in the woods. I wish them both the best.
I'm wondering how often during one week he has to go for a new pile of wood and where he gets that from.
Nice to see him eat that "locally harvested" tasty seasonal avocado.
