As a British man who has studied the American Revolution for years and is my biggest passion in history. This song is perhaps the best capture of who King George III was. It's ironic in a show about a leading American General, it is the King of Great Britain who has the best songs and the best humor. King George III was well renowned for being normal one moment and then going into an absolute rage within seconds. This song captures that so well and it adds the humor to this song.
Well, in his later years he had porphyria, which could lead sufferers to be mentally unstable as well as other awful symptoms. My understanding is that this portrayal wasn’t his entire personality. He wasn’t “evil,” or stupid on the whole.
Watched Hamilton yesterday at the Victoria Palace. (not cheap) Daniel's performance of You'll be back was the highlight of the show for me. Worth every penny of the ticket price to see his facial expressions and hear this great song !!
It's because British audiences get involved like that. Plus the song is a comical number which has a lot of British humor in it. Hence why it hits more with the Brits than the Yanks, and no it's not because it is portraying a King lol. It's openly mocking King George III and the one thing the Brits are good at, is taking the piss out of themselves. Something Americans don't quiet understand. As Stephen Fry once said, "This is the difference between American and British humor. In a comedy if a man was on a stairs and was playing a guitar that wasn't working, Americans would want to be in the audience laughing at that man. The British would want to be the man playing the guitar which wasn't working." Sums it up fairly well. I'm not saying Americans don't get comedy or have a sense of humor, it's just different to the British. Hence why Brits get more involved in comedic songs taking the piss out of something British.
thank you for uploading this i've been keen on seeing the different versions of King George spesh those performed by UK actors since obvs the perspective of the American revolution is different across the pond 😅
Musical actors love nothing more than going home early. So 5 minutes after their last song they'll be in the car, racing towards their couch. Who can blame them.
@@NM-js8ky So you would like to believe that the actor that plays King George (in every production of the show) never comes out for applaus because he's too humble? Rather than face the fact that musical actors also have lives they want to get to after work?
I,ve never seen Hamilton. Mainly because i thought it was hip hop and rap etc. This tune has opened my eyes a bit. Absolutely fun and opened my eyes. . Best I research the show . Luvvit.
This shows why British crowds are better than Americans, Americans just shriek and clap incessantly whereas British people respect the performers onstage an love a singalong
This is interesting he does the same inflections as Goff, it's like a karaoke. I'm used to each next singer putting their own spin on it but not this time. Not saying good or bad just interesting.
I don't know how anyone accepts this role after Jonathan Groff refined a version no one can possibly compete with. I'm not sure taking it camp was the right direction.
I think he was having trouble hearing the orchestra. There’s a couple places where he slows down relative to the accompaniment. Some of it is because he’s insisting on enunciation in places where he doesn’t necessarily need it… but sometimes it seems like it’s just like the orchestra’s rushing him, which can sometimes happen when a singer’s monitors aren’t working well.
Yeah! It was really good, but it makes you realize just how great Jonathan Goff’s performance was. I feel sorry for all the subsequent King Georges. Ya know, Jonathan Goff played one of the detectives in Mindhunter.
i’m not trying to stir the pot with the good British people of the world, but y’all don’t think there’s something wrong with how happy y’all got over “kill your friends and family to remind you of my love”??? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I know Americans couldn't give two hoots about us here in England anymore, and you are becoming increasingly Hispanic, but as much as you annoy us sometimes, we still love you. This is a strange song to bond over given the context, but it reminds me of how similar we are still in many ways.
Thank you both. Many don't love us. Perhaps both our countries are going through very tough and divisive times, and it's quite hard to cling to pride against a tide of those wishing to pick us apart. I love your country too, and the world would be a far less impressive and entertaining place without your existence. My very best wishes to you from across the pond.
a king sometimes start pretty young. King george III was 22 when he was king. Groff was was about 30 when he played the role while king george was 37 at the start of the revolution. Daniel was 44. Especially because it's showing the start of the King's mental decline(if not pronounced yet)
That's not irony.
The villain always gets the best lines.

This song has been in my head since I heard it😂
Oh dear

this performance had me in tears, just SO well placed vocally and so, so funny 😂

Aaaah! I need to go!
The song is a brilliant mocking of King George III mixed in with a fantastic British sense of humor. It's also a great song.
I was in the arena for the recording. It was so loud during the 'dadada' at the end. We couldn't resist 😂
That's perfect! That's how should be. :)
True
Well, His Majesty did kindly request your participation.
That "EVERYBODY!" hits different with all of Britain singing with him.
It's borderline sinister 🤣

@christophercarter6801 Lecturing about humor, yet you didn't catch my comment was humorous. Fascinating.
Yeah, bro. I reflexively reached for my musket.
Great performance!
I also loved that he stayed in character while leaving the stage 😂
Absolutely loved this! Was lucky enough to be 3 rows from the front so could see all the facial expressions really well! Take a bow 👏🏻👏🏻
Same. Made the $$$ worth it!
I think he's brilliant and I am a little in love with him!
I absolutely love this performance. And sorry to the Goff fans but I think he’s brilliant!
It’s Groff!
Great song and performance.
Omg. How many times can I watch this??? Clearly way to many as here I am yet again…
Brilliant! My favorite song from the musical.
Ditto x2
"Everybodeh!" - Awesome! 🤣🤣🤣

He has the Crazy Eyes.
Such a classy performance, equal to the original which is high praise
My favorite part of the show, period! He didn’t come out for applause… he should have!

Love this! Same, while I'm a musician and love theatre, I wondered what all the hype was about until I finally saw it!
Sì, capisco, anch'io ero diffidente per gli stessi motivi, ma poi me lo sono goduto alla grande!
You should totally go see it! You'll be surprised.
This is brilliant
He was the king when i saw him the other day he was so funny
Danny does this beautifully!
I saw him yesterday. AMAZING!
I not a fan of Hamiton but the King is the highlight so good that I rewatched the show just for this part.🤠
if you watch with jonathan groff it's even better
Impresionante, descubrí este musical gracias a mi hija Carolina que precisamente estuvo la semana pasada viéndolo en directo.
Got into my universty's singing club and team using this song during the tryouts lmao.
Thank you
Your welcome, I tried to find it but no decent version on YT, it was a great performance
@@tjsivI saw Daniel perform this song at kings cross two years ago, and I’m really glad he got to perform the actual role
I love Johann Groff as King George. And to be honest, its the only song I like from Hamilton.
He's a better and more pleasant singer than Jonathan Groff, and he did very well. But Jonathan Groff is well, you know, king.
Petition for King Charles to sing this?
Who knew a song about war and killing could be so happy!
BRO I LOVE IT I SAW THIS AT CHCOGO🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
I prefer this version, but both great

Jonathan Goff knocked this out of the park anyone after him just can’t do it justice.
1000%
West end version has it unfortunately…
Micheal Jibson does a good version. He doesn’t just copy Groff like the rest of them.
Jonathan’s voice is amazing but Daniel made this so funny and campy!
@@abbeyphillips5861but King George was mad not campy.
Just as good as Goff!
Tom Sivers i have a one thang to say is THAT THE RELA GROGE THE lll
Da da da da daaaaa
Fire the sound guy
Jonathan is the best and so cute!
Agreed
Is it just me or does it sound like ‘cheer up sleepy Jean’ or is this just a well known fact and I’m only just realising.
Spot on. This was supposed to be reminiscent of the music from the 1960’s British Invasion.

Less spit in this one
When yellowstone Erupts crawling back God save the king
0:09 what did he say? Was that english?
I love George's song. Second favorite from the whole play.
But was the singer sick? He wasn't looking well in the close ups.
No one will ever be as good as Jonathan, but this is close.

Hate people who stand during a performance. Hate people who inspire on recording during a performance.
Ok performance but nobody does it better than the original. I think the guy overdid certain parts
Yeah only ok. There are so many opportunities for comic nuances that just were not here. Sorry!
He’s ok, not good, not bad.
Could you do better?
@@ameliax4448 No but Jonathan Goff could

Sounds like Jonathan Groff but doesn't look like him.
It's NOT Groff!
Jonathan Goff is so much better imo.
The only decent song in the musical!
So factually inaccurate as regards King George III’s character. He wasn’t remotely vindictive towards the colony.
Uhhhhhh and Hamilton was remotely black either - it is a farce.
Yes George III was. Have you read his essays?
He's good but Jonathan is better....oh well.....
This souds so bad
How?
