I this video we are going to talk about guitar recording. We will not focus on the technical side, we will talk about combining different guitar parts together to create killer guitar tracks.
I usually start with drums and I like to combine those with a loop, usually from Spectrasonics Stylus software
Then I will pick a bass sound and record a simple bass part.
For the rhythm guitar parts, I like to start jamming on a riff-based part. Once I have a part that I like I hit record. For the second guitar, I look for something complementary and in a different registry.
A good idea is to pan one part to the right and one to the left, to give them some separation.

This was such a pleasure to watch-your creative process in action. I especially appreciated your discussion of how parts should have their own spectral regions, an insight too often lacking in TH-cam tracks.
Hey man I really wanted to say that this channel is a treasure, a real treasure better than diamonds and gold! It is not only a channel to find one's one unique guitar voice, but also to regain the link with the guitar, which for me was lost in the past 8 years. Thanks a lot!
The way you put all that together sounded awesome man. I'd love to learn how to record or make my own tracks
Loved this video, very thankful I found this. Enjoy your winter!
Thank you for getting me back into the idea of using a DAW again. It's been about 20 years and a lot of new toys have come on the scene.
David! You are such a contagiously enthusiastic, inspiring individual. Absolutely love you, man.
Also, thanks for all the work you put into your courses. I have enrolled in several. They are the some best, most beneficial resources available.
I found recording significantly improved my sense of rhythm and accuracy. Being able to listen back and hear how terrible you actually are is a good motivation to pinpoint and work on the mistakes you don’t notice when you play ‘live’.
" Being able to listen back and hear how terrible you actually are" - man, that is so so true! I have no words! I wanted to stop playing altogether!
@@droidfan it’s a tough feeling but the best way to improve! Similar feeling when I switched from a digital processor to a proper tube amp. The clarity showed up every flaw and depressed the hell out of me. Fortunately once you get used to it it helps your playing no end.
Best of luck buddy 👍
@@tomholton235 hehe you too Sir!
Thanks for making mix seem so easy. I'm looking forward to getting back to my recording studio.
Just like a kid in a candy studio. 'loved the quick slides up the neck and back on the last little jam.
10:28 "Let's add everything"! Awesome!
Hahah just sitting around watching David making music would be worth a watch in itself !
Great video David. Very interesting and I'm glad you showed us your thinking process on how you come up with backing tracks!
Great video David, really enjoyed it. Loved the backing tracks too!
Awesome video! I record my own songs and never thought about the "space" concept!
Very cool and funky!
Ohhh tu subes vídeos justo cuando necesito verlos!
Thanks, really useful.
As always David, great content 👍
Excellent! Thank you.
Brilliant Tutorial as always.
Thank you it's awesome !
Thanks for sharing. Love your content. Im also doing the same doing backing tracks. Really cool.
Amazing work !! Love it ❤️👏

Pegada muito top ! Gosto demais do seu estilo. Não vejo a hora de estudar ! Top ! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🎸🎸🎶🎶
Nice Rythm playing really good 👍
That was really hepful, what is the setup you are using ? I can see you are using a Mac, with logic pro x, a midi keyboard and some kind of amp. Is that the whole set up ? If so, could you please share the specifics ? Thanks!
Very impressive taskbar array!
Nice content, love it 👍
Great info, I can't find the jam tracks masterclass link though?
What application are you using sir when you make your own backing tracks? Ty.
Just always always learn stuff here sometimes something I should have sussed myself but never do. Thanks
inspiring and fun. Thanks! I also do not see the link to the Jam tracks masterclass? Am I missing it?
Awesome. Thank you again @@Wallimann
Thank you.
Yes more of these type of videos please I also use Logic
David what is the software you use call stylus where can I purchase it ?
Google is your friend .
Fantastic
When you recorded your album did you use programmed drums or did you get a drummer and did you do it all yourself in your daw ? I love your playing and the record is awesome by the way
Thanks! I write it using some loops and software, but then hired a real drummer!
A bit late here, but what computer program are you using?
Top notch. 🤘😎🤘
Amazing video, David! Just one question: what kind of keyboard you used to record the bass? I use linux here and was wondering that this is much more musical to play notes on some keyboard than typing a pitch in a computer keyboard. Thanks in advance!
I don't see any link to a free course?
How do you plug your guitar into your computer? Do you need any special hardware?
David when I find myself when I play against this when jamming I try to let my notes breathe more and I really try to lock in more with the cool rythm when jamming over
I think when I over play to many notes on a nice funky grove like this it seem to feel like two different unrelated groves
Thanks for the inspiration
Name of the program
super tasty Dave!
cool video Dave.. but it would have been even cooler (for me) if you showed us how you started with the drum and Spectrasonics Stylus because that is the base of the the song!
But thank you anyways Dave!!
👍🏻👍🏻
David Wallimann I have opened DW guitar folder ☺, and save your free classes...anyhow this video's will they stay on your You tube Chanel? i ask due to it would take me a lot to download them as well? anyhow if you going to delete them or sell them latter well will download them as well beside PDF's and Mp3 files. By the way i got DNA pentatonic and Mods Truefire, i know that stuff more less but needed it as refreshment and ideas to maybe give classes..I gave free classes to poor kids for now but hope in future to organize my self better..THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING SOME COOL STUFF FREE, THANK YOU FOR HARLY BENTON GUITARS..AND PLS IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT YOU CAN SHARE SOME CLASSES WHEN YOU HAVE PLAYED IN ''GLASS HAMMER'' (WHAT APPROACH, SCALES ETC AND YOUR EXPERIENCE AS PRO MUSICIAN IN PRO BAND) WOW YOU WERE AMAZING , you are by far the best teacher of a new generation
Thanks! As long as Google exists they will stay on the channel!
Also, watching them on the channel instead of downloading them helps me keep it all free! :)
@@Wallimann super! Yes i get it ☺, will watch them on line..I promise 100%, it is better for me that they ''live'' on YT ☺..Cheers and wish you all the beset!
