  • This is a 2nd attempt at making the Rise and Fall of Al-Anabi Racing. Again thanks to anyone who critiqued and gave advice on how to do better in the future. I felt this was a good way to try it out and make up for the failed attempt.
I started this video back in October and am glad I was finally able to get it done.
Special thanks to Larry Dixon who was generous enough to give me the time of day over a year ago to answer the questions I had that helped make this video stand out over anything else I've done.
Credit for research: Wikipedia, NHRA, Draglist, NBCSports, Motorsports, LA Times, CompetitionPlus, and a special thanks to Larry Dixon for taking the time to answer some of the questions I had.
Video credits go to, NASCAR, IndyCar, F1, NHRA, DonSchumacherRacing, Dave W, FullThrottleTV1, QRC, nhrafanomina28, LibtyNoonProductions, EchoPMH, Saad Bleik, and 1320Video.
Web sources for the research part go to places such as Motorsport.com, DragZine, NBC Sports, and the LA Times.
Credits for photos go to countless people who just so happened to have a camera to take those pictures. Without those, this video would be almost impossible to make.
    1. Al-Anabi Racing
    2. Alan Johnson Racing
    3. National Hot Rod Association
    4. NHRA
    5. Top Fuel
    6. Qatar

Awesome video, but the audio is so low. I have to turn my volume on my phone all the way up. Same thing on the TV. Don’t get me wrong, the video is still good. The audio is just low

An important step in video editing that everyone on youtube misses is "Normalize Audio" - AKA: Make everything the same volume.

The team is still around by the way in Qatar; they are more into hyper-class off roading now however, they own multiple extremely nice sand cars here in the US as well as Qatar.

During the depression we would listen to funny car racing on the Radio. The audio in this video reminded me of those old times not forgotten.

I've been a drag racing fanatic since I was ten years old. A neighbor took me to the track one time, and I was instantly hooked. After that I used to have my parents drop me off with a couple of bucks in my pocket at US 30 Drag Strip in Northwest Indiana every Sunday morning during racing season back in the late 1970s through the mid 1980s. I've met every big name and legend in the sport. Imagine these days dropping your ten year old off in a parking lot every Sunday morning, and then not picking them up until the sun started going down, having no clue what they were up to or who they were hanging out with all day. Yeah, it truly was a much simpler time back then, and rust me, it was much better for my parents than the hissy fit I'd have thrown if I'd have had to miss a Sunday at the drag strip.
I remember watching the ChiTown Hustler funny car going 220 mph, and marveling at the fact that no one could even come close to that speed at the time on that track. Hell, today top fuelers could shut down at 500 feet and coast across the finish line at 220 mph. Drag racing has been the ONLY sport I've ever followed, and I eventually ended up living just five minutes from Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, where I never missed a big event. I'd sit on my porch on Friday and Saturday nights listening to them qualify, and then Sunday morning bright and early, I'd be walking the pits and sitting in the stands with my wife. Route 66 is literally one of the nicest and fastest tracks in the entire country, and I always felt so lucky to have such an awesome track right in my back yard. That is until ten years ago when we moved to Arizona, about a half hour from (what was at the time called) Firebird Raceway. Shortly after moving here they sold the track and it was rebranded Wild Horse Pass Raceway, but to be honest, it was kind of a dump compared to Route 66 in Illinois. But it was still my local track, and any drag strip is better than no drag strip. Unfortunately in a few months I'm doomed to suffer with no drag strip, as they've sold the land, and the track will close after February next year, 2023. I'm heartbroken over it. My closest track will now be a two and a half hour drive, which means I may only see it once every couple of years now. So I'm starting a go-fund-me page to purchase several acres of land to start my own drag strip here in Phoenix. I'm kidding of course, but damn if it don't sound like a good idea now that I've said it. Hell, I'd let drivers race on it for free, just so I could go watch every weekend.

Well, I guess I'm beat by about 4 or 5 years. I used to go to the old Lions Drag strip off the 405 freeway in Long Beach in 1972/1973. That's what started it for me. Been following the sport ever since. I remember the Hawaiian, the Snake, and of course Big Daddy Don Garlits. I was wondering about this racing team several months ago, and what happened to them. Now I know. What a bummer.

While attending the NHRA SOUTHERN NATIONAL in Atlanta, during the sponsorship of this team, my brother pointed out to me while in the pits between rounds, there were no fans around the ropes and trailers of Al Anabi racing. We couldn’t help but wonder why there were so few people watching the rebuilds and throttle whacks. The fans were around the other teams.

Unfortunately I had to stop watching the video due to low voice over sound levels. The background music drowns out your voice due to your voiceover sound levels being set too low. Even with my volume turned all the way up that just increases the background music as well. The video became just a series of still shots and short clips set to music with an inaudible voice in the background. I’m sure those with normal hearing can hear your voiceover albeit with difficulty. But to many of us in the racing community who suffer from various types of hearing loss we can only turn up the volume so much when the sound levels are set too low in production. The other side of this is if sound levels are set too loud in production we the viewers can always turn them down more.
I’m sure this is another great video as I have watched & enjoyed others you have made. I wish I could have heard what you had to say.

Don't let anyone lie to you - Both Larry Dixon and Shawn Langdon were very good with Alan Johnson and Qatar behind them.

I remember there was some xenophobic stuff towards the team cause of the Sheik. Not lying. The 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte Larry Dixon won. The event was held on Memorial Day weekend and one guy was so mad he made a Facebook group to boycott the NHRA simply cause a top fuel dragster co-owned by someone from Qatar won. Acting like there was some type of war going on with Qatar when there wasn’t. Lot of people would just lump Qatar in with Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan. The team was pretty much liked when they came to Sonoma. There’s a good picture that was in the local newspaper that weekend of people gathered around (I’m amongst the people around it) the display funny car (had the same body as the regular funny car but underneath was just a bare chassis with a dummy engine inside). It always puzzled me why this team just disappeared leaving Alan Johnson alone to run the team and eventually having to shut down with like 3 races left
