there was a point in classic vanilla where the item ectoplasmic distiller from the t0.5 quest chain would provide crazy threat for some reason. was a fun couple weeks on the warrior(tank) discord
Back in vanilla WOTLK a shaman spec called "Spellhance" was a thing. Where you would wear a mix of +Spell Damage items and regular enh gear and use fiery weapon for damage. Also Vezzax hardmode was trivialized with this approach. As an enh shaman could use shamanistic rage to refill his mana and nullify the boss mechanic. I figured out the Vezzax part without reading any guides, made me so proud of myself when they patched it out.
as a new player I happened to be looking at some wiki page about something fishing related a few months ago and read about clamweaving, I laughed and said "it's insane what people will do to minmax", I had no idea it was fake hahaha
this reflects the spirit of classic wow so well. back when you'd hear a rumor about the game from a friend or guild mate that was right on the edge of belief and disbelief
When I saw the description of that item in SoD, I was convinced that it was a reference to something specific. I glad to now know how what it was all about.
I remember this clamweaving. It was my first expansion my roommate told me this and thought it was bs. I didn't really want to farm clams so I never really got past 30 clams haha
Murlocs do SOMETHING to the clams, but it's unclear whether it can be called "weaving" or whether it's appropriate to bring it up in polite discussion.
Would be a bigger joke if it sometimes worked in a new dungeon , i found BC dungeons way too short - and yes mobs are better but still more unitressting content - like a wave of zombies would be doomstyle
Some of them definitely did, especially those who respecced and tested the clams (though it’s possible that even some of them just assumed they were doing it wrong), but not every DK tested it. Some just took it at face value and refused to even try it, claiming it to be too degenerate of a strategy and some figured that if it was real, it would only be a matter of time before it was patched out. Most importantly though, there were several players (whether did it purposefully or not) who perpetuated the lie, claiming that they had performed the glitch or seen others do it. The drastic mix in responses (plus the coverage from content creators who took the bait) made it so that very few people absolutely knew for sure that it was fake. That being said, this was also a rather short lived period, as the confession came just about a day after the initial post. With enough time, most people would’ve caught on and realized it wasn’t real.
All it took was one person to share the Reddit post in the Blight Club discord before it started to catch on. I believe that the absurdity of clams causing such a crazy bug really helped to catch people’s eyes, but that it was the writing and thoroughness of the post that convinced people that it was worth testing.
I hate mathematically optimal gaming. First of all, it’s boring as hell, secondly it requires you *play* mathematically optimal as well to actually be correct, and since you probably have your own flaws and mistakes in how you play, having a game style that suits you will often be way better than having one that would suite a theoretical perfect player.
evn if it were working, people that care about such thing truly dont get how patches work and how futile their efforts were. getting an unfair advantage is seen more worthwhile than learning and getting better at the game
New players are the last people who should be thrown straight into lvl 55. New players should experience the game and learn a bit before they get the hero class. This is some ass-backwards thinking on Blizz part.
