  • In this video we get to finally see what this mini trophy truck project can do here at Windrock. on the first day we wanted to hit trail 16 to really test this machine and it handled it really well. But I only had 32" tires which made ground clearance an issue.

    Man, don’t know how many times I’ve commented on your videos about tire pressure but you sure do love to run things with 30 psi in the tires. Drop your pressures and it will ride and climb much better.

    Just a small driving tip from a Windrock regular, those ruts are all over the park. You've got all that suspension and you need to use it. Roll into those things with some momentum. Also buy a sheet of 3/8" UHMW and make you a skid plate, it'll help you out a ton.

  • @Blaquer17

    Don't forget, that motor makes the vast majority of its torque far above the RPM levels you were driving. It's a sport bike motor. once the clutch is engaged, you have to keep it above 6K rpm to make any significant torque. I know it sounds like it's screaming at 4000, but it's not even getting started!

  • @jasonbirch1182

    Your problem with stalling it is that those engines don't make any power down low. You need to keep it in a lower gear and keep the RPMs up.

    • @jasonbirch1182

      You should never be in a gear on a major hill or any heavy load with your tach below like halfway on a sportbike motor. You should never need to touch the clutch while climbing if it's in the right gear.

    • @jasonhudson5861

      @@jasonbirch1182your statements are very true but he has a secondary tranny to reduce the gears even more cause he wants it to be a crawler. If it was a bouncer I’d totally agree. I think he needs better clutch control because you are right that engine isn’t doin anything at lower rpm’s a second clutch on a handle or near the steering wheel would allow crawling an using the clutch way easier imo but if anything as people said even lower pressure then what he’s running would lower the tire size an gear it even lower/makin it grip even more

    • @jasonbirch1182

      @@jasonhudson5861 you should never be using the clutch to crawl. How many reducers he has has no bearing on it when he's lugging the engine. Watch the tach. I can't see numbers but, he's running all the way on the left
      side trying to crawl up crazy stuff to the point he needs to skip the clutch. He should be in a lower gear where the engine is making power and has no need for the clutch.

    I've been watching your builds over the years. Your buggy did well on these trails. A question for you: Have you thought about building a buggy with a rear drive set up similar to your front drive set up? And then building a covered chain drive to keep the mud and rocks clear of them. That might reduce your chain stretch issues. If you keep your present rear suspension and drive set up, it lends itself very well to a variable height suspension. You don't have to worry about cv angles and it is a way to get more ground clearance, Very cool rig. Work out some bugs and she will be a super fun and well rounded rig;-) I love to see your stuff out there cuz I am starting the process of building a do it all off road buggy which will have a motorcyle engine and chain drive. Very different from yours, but not so different. I always think it is funner to build something than to buy something. Keep up the great content!!

    Add a trampoline spring that clips onto your gear knob... its always going to knock out of gear... or have a locking pin on a plate and leave it in 1st, youre not reving it that high. Id be ringing it out much higher and woukd just have a larger oil capacity to ensure oil temps are stable when doing so. If you have the right high flow thermostat temp you should be able to thrash it with no temp issues...
    Nice build, I'll be pinching quite a few ideas off you in the near future...

    Hell of a performance for a machine you built from scratch. You should feel pretty good about it I hope. Seems like the first time you pull out the winch is like when you break the seal at the bar by using the bathroom the first time. 😆
    Hell of a job dude. Really enjoying your projects.
    I can't belive someone to a bone stock jeep on that trail. I mean I know they are really capable but that seems a bit optimistic.
    Also echoing the suggestion about your tire pressure the other person made. Get them things nice and squishy!

    I think trail 16 would be better suited with a CVT instead of a manual gearbox. Maybe get a hold of a mid 2000s Yamaha Phazer 500 4 stroke snowmobile engine. Get some side x side gear box for a CVT and the differentials. Least then less chances of stalling out since no manual clutch to worry about. Also the engine if I remember is fuel injected, so no dicking around with carburetor tuning.

    Another offroading tip, don't bother spooling your winch all the way in, it's a lot of time and wear on the winch if you're just going to pull it back out later in the trail. Instead once you get free, take the remaining cable and wrap it around the bumper or throw it through the windshield into the passenger seat. BTW Could not recommend swapping to synthetic rope on the winch enough. It's a lot less lethal when it snaps and it's much easier to pull and hook up.

    If this is the kind of stuff you wanna use this rig for id suggest some 38" or 40" with some really aggressive tread and adjusting your gearing accordingly. And you might wanna beef up your driveline and suspension to fit

    I like all the blue sh!t 😁. You got some talent brother. I'd love to see something made using a couple jeep Dana 30s. They are super beefy on a very light build. 😁 You probably got your next 5 projects planned out tho. Keep it up man

    Man I prefer a manual 10 to 1 in offload setting. Gotta learn to use brake and throttle with on foot and clutch with other. If u can't may need to adjust pedals a bit closer

    I think you should overhaul the VF-1000 to be the off road project you want. Bigger tires, redo the rear end to fit some kind of car engine and transmission, any suspension work it might need ect..

    set if bead lock and a set of Inerco tires that thing will be unstoppable.
