    “Looking like a wild wizard”
    Hahaha!
Dan, thanks for making your poncho’s hood a proper fit. And thanks for creating this item and making it available for us.
    Much appreciated!

I love ponchos though I use them as tents more often. My favorite is the Polish Lavvu.

Good looking poncho. Was hoping you were going to set it up as an emergency shelter. Awesome video my friend

Seems to be well though-out and of a very good quality. I just wish it was longer, say under your knees minimum. Take care, Dan! :)

That's wierd. I just packed my oiled nylon army poncho for my trip to Greece. It does rain hard there. The best thing is that I just put it over the rucksack and my head and I'm good to walk

Hey Dan.... I know you like challenges. So, here's one for you. You've done a lot of videos with hunter/trapper etc... blah blah blah.. How about one with the persona of a civil war soldier toward the end? You got a horse, tack and a gum blanket/poncho, you choose, flour ration, a daily ration, and just go for it. How would you fare? Quite interesting in concept. Now those guys were survivalists. Every thought of challenging yourself on this level? Might want to pack a squirrel rifle. Would be an interesting episode to explore.

i live in florida and the islands of the antilles back and forwarth. our rain here is daily in the jungles and man it gets tiring haha. i'm going to purchase one of these. was even thinking of doing a small video on it and seeing if it can truly hold up. wish me luck!

I'm gonna do a follow up cause my order just got here and I have alot to say. There's alot of comments saying why buy this "expensive" item when normal ponchos exist. So here's real reasons from a Florida man who loves outdoors.
1.) this is actually the cheapest oilskin poncho I've found available on the us market by about 20-30 bucks.
2.) plastic ponchos use dwr spray, so if your looking for a bushcraft or bombproof option your kidding yourself with a modern poncho relying on chemical application
3.) I gave myself an unlimited budget on rain gear. I live in the tropics. Rains my life. I've tried every single rain item possible with all the money I could dump. They still rip to nothing most of the time in these forest haha. For 150 nothin will keep you safer while being dry. Try starting at 300 for serious rip stop goretex tech.
4.) this things made the right way. I just got through hurricane Debby. I help alot when the trees fall and need something to keep the wind and rain off my back. This 4 pound rain stopping monster of a poncho kept me doing my work without a second though.
Don't sleep on a good poncho. In my environment this poncho is indispensable. Thanks for the good gear coal cracker !

Excellent presentation & excellent product, Dan! Several years ago my wife & I got open-front oilskin parkas for our 18th century re-enacting; but the garments do not have hoods & no means of fastening them together. We purchased ours through Tentsmiths; are they making yours for you? For practical purposes, your poncho would work better. Thanks for all your no-nonsense presentations. Although we are retired & on a fixed income, our oilskin parkas should last the rest of our lives. Our ages are 82 & 78. 'Blessings on you & yours.

I wish I lived where this was feasible, but in SE Texas it would only be good about teo weeks out of the year. Don’t get me wrong, I love oilcloth, just not to wear in my climate.

Does it have grommets or tie outs on the center seem in line with the hood so you can hang it in an A Frame configuration?

A Tie Loop would have been great on the top rear of the Hood to hold it up if you needed to use the Poncho as a Shelter,... That would keep the Hood up & open for ventilation.

  • @i_am_a_freespirit
    @i_am_a_freespirit ปีที่แล้ว

Question...is it plastic or actual cloth? What type of cloth?
I had ordered me a oil cloth hood via tent Smith, and the hood was made of plastic materials verses the small sample sheet they added (for future repairs?).
That little sample felt like cloth compared with the Hood it felt different...like plastic.

Oilskin ... I know modern oilskin contains wax so that it does not drip all over the place but I still prefer waxed canvas over oilskin.
